hey everyone... didnt see any topics regarding this chipset yet...

anyone who has please post if zeph's release is working...

my specs:
amd x2 6000+ sb600 southbridge hdd on sata... dvd on ide... hd2600 pro on pcie... 2 GB ram... ms 7327 motherboard...

problem when in native ide mode... i wont see my hdd... ahci solves the problem... i can format hfs partition and get it ready to install... but just at the beginning when it says time remaining... calculating it stops doing anything...

My 3rd working install is on a 690G/SB600 chipset MB.

I'll finish this a little later - it can be done but it does take a different install method...

Try to visit "Cant see my hdd..." topic. I`ve got the same problem with SB600, and got some nice replies - try them :)

The easiest way to get it running (other than to wait for Zephyroth 2...) is with an external hard drive and another computer.

I've been running an x2 6000+ with an 690g/sb600 on 10.4.9 smooth as for ages now. SataII was an issue. I set or disabled AHCI (I think, from memory) in BIOS and had to use a jumper on the drive to half the speed. worked but not very stable so I just got a USB enclosure!

As for 10.5.2 i've installed now but it's not as stable as I'd like (as 10.4.9).

cgsheen: You say you used a different method? What method would that be? I've used 9.1.0 kernel with via chipset drivers from Zeph's 10.5.2 Rev1(i think)

Right. I'm running Zephyroth 10.5.1 on that computer. I couldn't get 10.5.1 to install directly due to the chipset issue. I installed 10.5.1 to a USB HD using a different computer. Once the install was complete, I installed a .kext for the SB600 (it was called "SB200_400_600" or something like that (I have a poor memory and I'm at work - sorry - but I think it's listed with the rest of my specs in the "Hardware" thread - should be the 3rd working install)).

Then I connected the external drive to the 690G/SB600 machine and booted from it. It actually booted into the OS and I was able to load installers or .kexts for the 8600GT video and ALC889a audio. Runs quite well on that machine. Eventually I copied that install off of the USB drive and onto an IDE HD which I installed internally.

All that because I didn't want to learn how to inject the SB600 .kext into the Zephy 10.5.1 DVD... Like I said, I still haven't tried 10.5.2 on that computer though.

installed leo4all v3 with external usb drive... installation went thru successfully in 20 minutes... bootet in ahci mode...

encountered following problems:

01. hd2600pro was not recognized... installing netkas radeonHD package fixed that... ah one kext was missing and needed to be edited with the right device id: atiradeonx2000.kext . kext helper made it easy

02. ata devices were not found... in my case dvd writer.... sb600 package fixed the problem...

03. no onboard sound... got realtek... alcinject didnt seem to work... azalia package fixed the problem...

so thank you to the whole community for this beautiful work... i got a completly nice working leo system now... just need to sell my pci soundcard... driver of this one doesnt work... gonna get me a firewall solution...

xan, umm...this is something you should consult with eddie11c. I didn't compile the PPF, but do know for a fact that it did work for some people over at IRC. Did you select the appropriate drivers/kexts before you initiated the installation? It can also be that there are other fixes that need to be made to the PPF to see the dvd drive after the install. Can you see the drive in Disk Utility? What about System Profiler?

sys profiler and others cant see the drive. its strange, i installed everything that was needed during the installation.
some told me to reinstall IOATAFamily.kext, i tried some of them but nothing helped.

maybe eddie can answer :) i'm really frustrated

There are 2 main problems with the SB600 support, thats the reason why no one fix works for everyone. For some people AppleOnboardPCATA needs to have the PATA Device ID put in to get past waiting for root device for install. Others need it completely removed and rely on AppleGenericPCATA. If your using an IDE hard drive drive manually settings the bootflag rd=disk#s# where the #'s correspond to your disk and partition you are booting from. It may help if you can post your current drive configuration also. Did you install the VIA-SB chipset drivers during install?

Thats a good explanation. Clarifies what I was pointing out in regards to the chipset. =)

@ eddie11c

first i couldnt install because of the "still waiting for root..."
than WinLinMac01 posted me the sb600 ppf patch. after applying the ppf patch i could easily install on my SATA HDD. The best installation out of the box i've ever seen till now.

But there is one issue: I can't see and use my DVD Drive (IDE) thats my biggest problem. it has nothing to do with the Harddrives and bootflags. everything runs smooth but without the use of the DVD Drive. any ideas?

This is an odd issue, I've never encountered before. I'll look into it throughout tonight.

As I said, add your device ID to AppleOnboardPCATA for your IDE drive. If its already there try removing it.

whats the best distro for osx install on sb600 chipset? ipc? lawless? with ipc what kernel do i choose? voodoo or machkernel?

i already installed it a year ago... and needed to change some vendor ids to get the quartz support for the HD2600... but forgot what exactly i needed to change... pointing to a thread that helps me would be nice...

besides that I heard there is some kernel panic issues when you update to 4GB... what should i do?

besides that i have a terratex phase 22 and already discovered there is some driver for that... cant find it at the moment... does anyone know where i can this driver?

i am planning to start installing next weekend... any hints would be appreciated.... here my detailed specs:

msi mainboard with sb600 chipset
amd athlon x2 6000+
2x 2GB DDR2 800Mhz Ram Dual Channel
radeon 2600HD (is 4850 or 4770 supported? need more gpu power for motion)
1x 320GB seagate barracuda 7200.11 + 1TB samsung F3 (seagate for system, samsung for scratch)
terratec phase 22 audio interface

Is there some pci extension for esata available that is supported ... since i would like to access external drive via esata... usb/firewall 400 too slow...

thx in advance,
classic

i successfully installed ipc 10.5.6 final version on my machine... ethernet working, soundcard working, dvi and vga port of the graphic card working but NO quartz extreme support :(

i installed PC EFI 10.5 and enabled the GraphicsEnabler, added device ID to ATIRadeon2000.kext tried with and without NATIT... but its the same result... no QE... also tried the newest RadeonHD Installer packages from netkas...

any ideas of what i might be doing wrong?

here a few screenshots - maybe you discover something:
