Hi, I have made a post about this in the past but it was soon deleted from the thread I was posting in due to read-only circumstances. I am trying to install leopard and get the ball rolling but I am faced with the following problems.
- PS/2 Keyboard and mouse not working
- SATA HDD not recognized
- Possible sound driver needed
Here are my system specs.

And for future reference, I do not have a Macintosh computer to work on so I can't accept any tutorials requiring a Macintosh computer to patch my Leopard installer. I have been working this for four days and I am very frustrated. I just want this up and running! Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any future help.

There is a tutorial on the wiki about the PS2 and injecting kexts into the dvd -
check it out, I dont think you need a mac either to apply a new kext.
The PS2 issue is in the "Known Issues" section
and the kext injecting is in the "How to's" section

Thats just it though. I have found many tutorials on insanelymac that mention the fact you need a mac for use of terminal. In the how to section it also requires use of mac terminal with little explanation of what to do before then or how to get there or what to use. It just jumps right in to terminal commands. Also the PS/2 solution is for after you install leopard. I am also left without a solution to my SATA problem. Thanks for the reply.

If you have access to a windows machine, you could get a program such as " magicISO " or any other program that allows you to edit an ISO file. This will help you clean out the DVD of un-needed kexts, and inject what else you need into it.

Though, this hasn't been tested.

Have you tried installing Tubgirls 10.4.10 release?

Hey, no problem, I understand the frustration, I actually gave up and spent the $50 bucks for a cheap PATA drive, but if thats not an option than keep researching, Ill do the same. Im still kinda new to this stuff too, so sorry I dont have any specific answers right now, it does look like you at least need a working mac drive to install the kexts in the dvd though, but keep trying, maybe theres a way to do it.

01-08-2008, 10:36 AM
Thanks, I'm still open for solutions.

@ShadeZeRO

I have a windows PC and a ISO tool. However the ISO tool won't do me much good as only transmac can see the folder where the kext is located. I really don't need to remove any kext but when it comes to patching is it really as simple as injecting a extra file into a ISO? I'm a bit confused here. Also wouldn't that make it non-bootable? I really do need a step by step walkthrough now because I am pretty confused and I have hit a dead end. I was hoping this installation would be pretty straight forward. No I have not tried tubgirls release but isn't that Tiger? I really want leopard.

ShadeZeRO
01-08-2008, 12:28 PM
Well, like I said, I've never done it in windows. So I'm not too sure.

But what I do recommend, is install tubgirls release. Then from there, you should be able to patch up the DVD like jshanh pointed out. I've never run OSX on a SATA Drive though.
I'm going to take another quick look around the forum, I'm sure I've seen this problem a few times.

I now had a problem with an Asus A8N-E/FM, Socket 939, nForce 4. I had a new unformatted 500GB SATA HD conntected. During booting the Leopard DVD stopped at some kind of NTFS driver. Tried several times, wasn't working. I booted from Myzar 10.4.6, this works. I'm now formatting the HD.

Hey lllsondowlll,
Maybe I can help you. I've got a similiar problem: My ATA-hdd can't be detected. So I can't install Leopard.
Look here: http://osx.kbot.de/comments.php?DiscussionID=24&page=1#Item_15
I'm trying to inject the kext with MagicISO. I know your problem with the bootability. You have to open MagicISO, open your image and save the Boot-Information (left to the "Bootable"-logo). Then you'll edit your image, load the Boot-File into it (there's a button next to the Bootable"-logo again) and save it (it could take for a while).
That's my way. In this moment, I'm burning the new iso, but I don't know if it'll work, because the new image is a little bit smaller than the old one. Try to do the same. Good luck!

lllsondowlll
01-11-2008, 05:40 AM
Thank you so much! finally a straight answer. Let me know if it works, if it does then I will do it. But I prefer to wait for confirmation before I go wasting disks. Please let me know if it works and thanks again!

01-11-2008, 08:49 AM
Oh, I'm sorry. I tried it, but the "Boot from CD" freezes. But I'm sure it's the right direction we have to follow. Leopard will be ours!

naquaada
01-11-2008, 04:32 PM
Test the following: Boot from the original disc, then press F8 to stop the boot process. Eject the original disc and change it which your patched one, then continue booting. But I'm not sure if MagicISO could save an ISO containing HFS+ data correctly. UltraISO 8.x only saves the Joliet part.

crawle
01-11-2008, 04:44 PM
And that's the problem! I think, there's no way to "just edit the image and save it again".
But I'll stay tuned and trying!

If you have already an OSx86 system running, maybe this could work: Insert the Install DVD and open Disk Utility. Select the DVD and create an .dmg image from it, but it must be readable/writeable. Now you should be able to insert new kexts, but the permissions must be set correctly. After this you can burn the DVD again, use a RW disc for this. But I don't know if it also restores the bootloader (this is no HFS+ format), in that case you have to use the switch-disc method.

Something different: Are you using a combines Windows-MacOS-HD? I can't recommend this. If you use Disk Utility one on a HD, Windows has problems to manage them. Partition Magic 8 marks the whole harddisk as 'DEFECTIVE', with a big yellow bar which you can't move, delete or anything. The only way to make this HD useable again is to delete the MBR - and in that case you will destroy any data on the HD. Better use a single HD for MacOS and Windows, ist also easier 'cause you can use the Windows XP/Vista bootselector to switch between the OS.

I don't have a running OSx86-System. But maybe I can do this "live"?

I think my english ends here. :-) I'll "whisper", so nobody will ask, what (f..fu...funny) laguage it is ;-)

Okay, let's go back to the good, old english language. ;-)

I have installed XP via VMware, Iīve used transmac to inject the appleviaata.kext (drag & drop) into the /system/library/extensions , and all seems to be perfect, in transmac you must show the hidden files...burn the ISO and boot with -v -f

@naquaada: he already injected the tiger kexts into his leopard dvd, and is going to test it again now.

Most of the time Tiger kexts are working, for example for my USB Controller.
Roisoft fixed USB issues with a Tiger IOUSBFamily Family kext as well. :)

- boot the dvd with -f and -v flags ... kexts were loading, loading, loading ... and ZACK my PC rebooted
- boot the dvd without any flag ... installer were loaded ... but my hd still wasn't there. :-(

@naquaada: I don't want to download Tiger, because now I know it's not the driver the problem.

@roisoft: I repeat: this isn't "my" thread. I have got a IDE/ATA-HD, connected by a IDE-Cable. But I've got an idea. Maybe I should change the IDE-Calbe-Ports from Rom and HD. Should I try this?

So where should be the jumper on the Rom plugged in?

Puttabong
01-13-2008, 01:07 AM
// rdiskXsX: you have to know the proper partition names and replace them with X.
In my case, it would rdisk1s1, first HDD, and first partition, on which leopard has been installed, which needs to be made bootable //

1 -> Launch DVD
2 -> At boot prompt, type -s (single user mode)
3 -> Type:

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
update
f 1
w (y)
q

4 ->
cd /usr/standalone/i386
./startupfiletool -v /dev/rdis0sX ./boot (X is your partition)

5 ->
mount -uw /
mount -t hfs /dev/disk0sX /Volumes

6 ->
bless -device /dev/disk0sX -setBoot -verbose

7 -> reboot

roisoft
01-13-2008, 01:10 AM
after that, you will fix the windows boot

boot over windows dvd

open command prompt and type

diskpart

select disk 0

list partition

select partition X (X=windows partition)

active

exit

bootrec /RebuildBCD

Add installation to boot list? (yes)
