hi all,

i'm new here, and have joined up cos you can't discuss 10.6 hackintoshes in my old forum<ahem>

but that aside, i've found this place to be very helpful recently, so..

i wanted to ask if anyone has encountered the problem where everything is fine in 32 bit mode,,, but in 64 bit the dvd drive isn't recognised

on my dell laptop, i get an ioata.kext kernel panic, which iive bypassed by removing appleintelpiixata.kext..

but this results in having no dvd drive.

it turns out ioata, kext isn't even being used in my system (i've removed it now) but appleintelpiixata.kext can't be used on its own without ioata....

if anyone can help i'd appreciate it, cos my 64 bit 10.6 laptop is literally perfect bar power off, and this.....(power never ever worked)

thanks in advance.

Same problem here in -64x mode, even with netkas'ATA, not resolved.
Here my ioata.kext works fine in -32x mode without KP.

try changing from ACHI mode to a "compatible" mode if one exists in your bios.

+1...same problem, and I haven't solved it till now :'(

@elfdood (http://www.infinitemac.com/member.php?u=9921)
I've changed from "ahci" to "compatible, but in -64x mode I've a KP "still waiting for root device".
Please, much needed for my laptop optical drive in 64-bit mode
on an ICH8.

I'm not using any ata device on my computer. Instead, I use Jmicron, but only to boot Windows 7 hard drives. I don't need to access to them from osx. Do I need to use Jmicron.kext or appleintelpiixata.kext on my snow -maybe for more stability?

Cheers!

I'm also getting a kernel panic because of AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext.

I put netkas's modified one into /Extra/Extensions but the same thing happens at the same spot. How do I know if any of my kext files in /E/E are even working?

In -64x mode we've the same problem, but in -x32 mode works fine.

I out your kext into /E/E and I get the same old kernel panic when booting with -32x. If that even a kernel flag? I still see "64 bit mode enabled" in verbose mode...

@BeSweeet... Put ioata.kext in S/L/E, then repair permission.

Oops, I should have updated this.

I got rid of IOATAFamily.kext in /S/L/E and put your in /E/E, rebooted, and it worked. That was from my external USB HDD.

I'm currently installing it on my internal laptop's HDD.

Hi guys!
Now ATA drives (cd/dvd roms etc.) working! but only in 32b mode :)

For INTEL ICH (10)/9/8/7

What about the people who still can't boot? And how do I boot in 32bit mode?

Your system is almost exactly like mine. Does your X3100 work OOTB?

Actually, we do have the same exact stuff, but I have 4GB RAM. Are you on a Gateway laptop?

yes, my X3100 work with vanilla drivers (yet supports only 32bit). Need use the custom-patched dsdt.aml. Best way to get patched dsdt is DSDT Patcher (http://pcwizcomputer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=150&Itemid=48) GUI by PCWiz.

What happens if I patch the DSDT? Will these things work better?

PS: Please see this thread: http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/snow-leopard-works-some-problems-should-be-easy-t3711/ maybe you can help me :).

Hi slic.
Have you found an issue for ioata supporting 32/64 bit?

twr
08-22-2009, 07:42 PM
not yet ... but it seems related to the lack of a secondary PCI IDE channel ...

we'll need further investigations I guess, and the release of 10.6 sources might give us more informations.

Hi guys! I solved this! (because netkas fix fail)
Now ATA drives (cd/dvd roms etc.) working! but only in 32b mode :)

...

you didn't solve it,,,,,,that's exactly where we started!!!!

twr
08-23-2009, 06:38 PM
indeed ...

just to walk a bit through the mysterious way of 10.6 PIIXATA, can the people facing IOATA KP confirm that they use only one IDE/PATA controller ?

steenamaroo
08-24-2009, 12:06 PM
if it helps,, as far as i know, i only use one...

i remember on leopard, when appleintelpiixata loaded,,,i would have seen

'secondary ide channel disabled' or something to that effect in verbose boot.

this is back when the dc/dvd drive worked no problem...

my laptop is a dell vostro 1500 with a sata hard drive and apparently ide dvd drive

twr
08-24-2009, 01:11 PM
exactly the same here : this error wasn't an issue in 10.5, but it might be the cause of our KP on 10.6 ...

I don't know how much it can help more talented people to (hopefully) solve the problem, but I'll mention the observed link on netkas' blog ...

vista00

I've the same symptom. Effectively, it appears 'secondary ide channel disabled' in vebose boot. I've changed ioata by an old one but still not working in -x64 mode cause my optic CD/DVD drive is not recognised at all.

well some good news
apple has released 10.6 sources
http://www.opensource.apple.com/release/mac-os-x-106/
and they include AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext and IOATAFamily.kext, the 2 offending kexts, so hopefully someone who knows what they are doing can find a quick solution.

hi again,,

anyone who's having the problem where the dvd drive isn't recognised in 64 bit mode should try the kext in this post

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=186609

it's the ioatafamily.kext at the top of page one,

i didn't use the script, or jmicron on my vostro 1500...
