Hi, I'm trying to install Snow Leopard on my Compaq Presario C762nr notebook. I have a nearly perfect install of 10.5 on one partition. I've tried following different tutorials, but nothing seems to get me past this kernel panic (pic shown at bottom). I've tried everything, and I can't seem to figure it out. Can anyone help me?

Another issue is I can't create a patched DSDT.aml to boot with, because I always get errors no matter what I use. I tried fassl's GUI utility, but it ALWAYS tells me "Build Failed". I don't have any luck using a forced compiled DSDT.aml, just the same kind of panic. Someone please help!

Since we can see a beta kernel I assume it's the version 10a380 . I also think you're using Chameleon RC1 or RC2. Maybe try with this SaCleoCheater's bootloader (http://sacleocheater.hostoi.com/Utils/Bootloader2.dmg) and also read his post (http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/how-to-install-snow-leopard-on-a-pc-t3137/) starting with :

*****UPDATE 2*****
If you are up-halted by a Kernel Panic on boot, skip Step 1 and Step 2 and instead follow these instructions: ..................

If you still want to use RC1 or RC2 you have to generate an Extensions.mkext file

Read about that here (http://www.projectsnow.net/index.php?/topic/18-guide-to-perfect-vanilla-snow-leopard-32-or-64-bit/) ( scroll down to "Permanent boot" section )

Actually, I'm using 10A354, it was the only thing I could find at the time. I tried what you said, but I'm still getting panics. (pic below) Oddly enough, when I boot (-v -f), I get what's in pic 1, but when I boot (-v -f -x64), I get pic 2.

Would I have better luck using the 10A432 instead?

Also, how do I solve the issue with the DSDT patching? Here's a copy of my log from when I used the patcher:

Did you generate one for 10.5?

You could copy from that partition to SL.
Also, if you dont flag it to 32bit, it will try to boot to 64.
the -64 flag you wrote is for 64bit.

try with arch=i386

I tried SL before in with 10A380, and I got it to boot a couple of times with -x flag

I am also about to try, but I have am trying to find info if dual booting Leo and SL actually works or not, because I read around here that it is very dodgey to have two partitions with Extra folder (Chameleon)

I remember getting the same error with the latest fassl patcher. Then I downloaded iAtkos v7 and in costumization, fassl's patcher is there as an option. It was pre-checked, so I left it there, installed perfect, but no terminal or GUI showed me what went on.

The last two lines of your dsdt log read

Compiling done, if it worked, you have now a patched DSDT in dsdt.aml
If the compiling went wrong, you could force to build it with ./DSDT\ Patcher -f (try this DSDT at your own risk)

DSDT is a bit confusing for me, I've read about it, but its a bit out of my league. Could someone please explain to me when and how is the DSDT dangerous? If its dangerous, how come people are doing it so candidly?

I tried booting with -x, but I get the same panic. And I can't generate a DSDT for Leopard either. I tried every option on the DSDT Patcher GUI, but I always get "Build Failed". I don't use a DSDT.aml on my Leopard partition, and I have 10.5.8 installed.

Yes, I'm sure. It still failed. And I tried using a forced DSDT, but the panic is the same.

I have to repeat myself : What about the bootloader ? Which version are you using ?
did you created an Extensions.mkext ? I was having the same Kernel Panic when I was using Chameleon RC 1 and 2 but no more with chameleon version1012

I'm using the one you suggested earlier found here (http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/how-to-install-snow-leopard-on-a-pc-t3137/). Same panic.

In that topic there are 2 bootloaders : **UPDATE 2!*****
If you are up-halted by a Kernel Panic on boot, skip Step 1 and Step 2 and instead follow these instructions:
Download This
Open the Chameleon package and Install the bootloader.
Now using Terminal, copy the "boot" file located in the DMG to the root of the volume you installed Chameleon onto using the following commands:

make sure you use this one : maybe try a clean install

Ok, now I've given up on 10A354, and am trying 10A432. I used that bootloader that you mentioned, but I still get panics (pic below). This happens whether or not I have a DSDT.aml or not.

If it's not the bootloader, and not the DSDT, what's keeping this thing from booting?

Why can't we see dsmos kext loading ? Because I am quite sure that is the problem ...

did you put it in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder ?

Did you chown-ed and chmode-ed, did you Booted with -f option also ^?

I've tried every form of bootloader there is, and nothing seems to help. Right now, I am using Bootloader2 mentioned several posts back.

I don't think dsmos.kext even has a chance to load, 'cause it's in the folder with fixed permissions. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the mach_kernel. What can I do here? :'(

At least in my laptop i need the IOPCIFamily.kext for Snow patched ....

Hi,

I have a Presario C700 laptop and I am trying to put Snow Leopard onto it.
Did you follow a guide to put it on? I can't even get a bootable USB drive with Snow Leopard install to boot let alone the actual system.

If you could upload the kexts and DSDT you used that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance
JM

I have a successful install on 2 Compaq A900 (my wife and my own laptops). For awhile I had iAktkos v1.2 10.5.4 that's what I believe most people have been able to install. So I've made install for may friends on different laptops and even on my own desktops I decided to take the challenge and install Snow Leo 10.6.2 on our 2 Compaq's (which are the same as C700 if google it you'll find it true).
Everything works except the built in camera, that always been an issue. Sleep works but only on 32 bit boot mode. The install is very tricky and I believe its not for rookies or people with moderate to advance knowledge.
I can create a guide if still there are out there enough people with these laptops that don't want to give them up like me. Actually the install came out that good and because the nice screen that theese A900 have (a 17" brightview) that it made me to try also a CPU swap on my wife one since hers was overheating a lot and self turning off (a well known issue on these laptops). The swap was also so successful that I will now mine as well. I got T8300 on hers and planning to get the same for mine. The cores temperature went from constant 80-84 Celsius down to 52-56 C.
I will update on insanely forum where I'm a bit more active user (I don't post a lot it doesn't mean I don't follow all the community issues).
