I thought I would give my experiences setting up Snow Leopard 10A432 on the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 board with an i7 920 chip. This board has given me no end of problems and has been the most difficult I've done - 2 weeks and counting. The following chronicles what has worked for me to get SL in 32 bit. I'm still debugging to get is running in 64 bit so I'll update as more information becomes available.

First I'd like to thank those that have gone before me ….. the community without whom I would not have been able to install OSX. I have obtained information from various threads on various Forums and put together a method that works for my setup.

SL = Snow Leopard
S/L/E = System/Library/Extensions directory
E/E = Extra/Extensions directory

BIOS SETUP (Version F8):

Upgrade the BIOS. Boot to BIOS and choose Optimize Settings. Change …..

1. M.I.T. - Default
2. Standard CMOS Features - Not Applicable
3. Advanced BIOS Features - Default
4. Integrated Peripherals
- XHA - Disabled
- ICH SATA Controller - Enabled
- USB Keyboard - Enabled
- USB Mouse - Enabled
- On Board LAN1 Boot Rom - Enabled (needed to get LAN working)
- On Board SATA.IDE Device - Disabled
5. Power Management Setup
- HPET Moded - 64-bit

To setup SL, I recommend the following HDD setup ….

- One HDD (installer HDD) contains a running version of OSX. digital_dreamer provides a good tutorial on how to get Leopard UD5 up and running on the UD5 .... GA-EX58-UD5 (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=149505). Although I did find his script very useful for setting up Leopard, I did not have luck using it for SL.
- I highly recommend that the install HDD contain a running version of 10A380. Although 10A432 can be setup through Leopard, I found it very frustrating and in the end the end it's not worth the hassle. 10A380 can be easily set up through Leopard and from there 10A432 is a breeze.
- A second HDD for installation of 10A432 (install HDD).

PARTS NEEDED:

- Snow Leopard Install DVD 10A432
- Snow Leopard Files Updated files from SoCalCheater's Snow Leopard thread …. how-to-install-snow-leopard-on-a-pc (http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/how-to-install-snow-leopard-on-a-pc-t3137/)
- kexts
..… dsmos (netkas)
..… NullPowerManagement
..… SleepEnabler
..… OpenHaltRestart
..… RealtekR1000
..… VoodooHDA
- dsdt file (optional)
- Kext Helper b7
- DSDT Patcher GUI
- EFIStudio

INSTALLATION:

- Boot into your 10A380 install
- Open Snow Leopard Files Updated folder
..… Run Chameleon-2-1.0-r432.pkg and install to install HDD
..… Run Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support and install to install HDD
- Mount the 10A432 DVD
….. Go to System/Installation/Packages folder
….. Run OSInstall.mpkg
..…….. Select install HDD as the destination
..…….. Select "Customize" and deselect everything
- Go grab a drink while 10A432 is installing
- When finished do not reboot
- Copy disabler to E/E from Snow Leopard Files Updated folder
- Copy netkas dsmos to E/E

*** This is all you need to do to get 10A432 to boot in 32 bit mode so if you wish you can test it out now ***

Either way to finish the install …

- Make a dsdt.aml file using DSDT Patcher GUI. It goes in the E/E folder.
..…. NOTE: For PCEFI v9 you do not need the dsdt.aml; for PCEFI v10 you must have a dsdt.aml in E/E
- Copy NullPowerManagement to E/ E
- Using Kext Helper B7 install:
..… SleepEnabler
..… OpenHaltRestart
..… RealtekR1000
..… VoodooHDA

NOTE:
- SleepEnabler + NullCPUPower Management are needed for the system to sleep and wake
- Voodoo HDA is needed for the onboard sound
- RealtekR1000 is needed for on board LAN

- Make a com.apple.boot.plist file in E/E containing the following info:
<dict>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>-v busratio=20 -x32 boot-uuid=XXXXX</string>
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>5</string>
<key>device-properties</key>
<string>YYYYY</string>
</dict>

- For the XXXXX, obtain the UUID info using Disk Utility
- For the YYYY, obtain the correct string for your video card using EFIStudio
- The -x32 boot flag forces it to 32 bit

I will update further as I obtain more information playing with the system to refine it and discover how to enable 64 bit.

Good Luck

What a flakey board .... I think.

If you lose your Ethernet Adaptor Internet connection, shut down, turn the power supply off until all the board lights go out and then turn it on. A new ethernet adaptor should appear as another Ethernet Adaptor in Network.
