Here's how I got SL working with no KP after about a week of trying different methods....

I ran the installer from within leopard (the whole 8gb USB drive didn't work for me as it didn't list my drives no matter what I did).. via the X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer_Tool modified to work for SL found here: http://www.snowx86.com/downloads/X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer_BETA_muzzle.nl.zip
I chose the old bootloader listed and installed via the dvd image, after step 1-7 was done I added the extensions folder to extra and inserted: AppleGenericPCATA.kext and fakesmc.kext only, rebooted and did the following :

-x32 -s

When you are in the console, type this:
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mnt -uw /
kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/

Now I was in SL, but I had KP like crazy, so I booted up again -x 32
and installed the Base System package from the SL dvd image in theory removing my admin right of the machine so I rebooted and re-ran the initial setup.
-s
mount -uw /
cd /private/var/db/netinfo
mv local.nidb local.old
rm ../.AppleSetupDone
exit

Now Disk Utility works perfectly and I've been running SL for 2 days with no KP!!!!!, reboot, shutdown, oc, handbrake using h264 (doesn't work in Leo for me), QT… you name it.

Got started with: http://www.muzzle.nl/osx86-installation/3016-snowleopard-10-6-build-10a432-gigabyte-ga-ex58-ud5.html

And used the GA-P35-DS3X guide package 10.5.4 to get my sata controller working, sound works out of the box with the initial tool.

Now if I could get my wireless to work constantly (Dlink 542) it would be perfect.

Hi,

How did you do that

"and installed the Base System package from the SL dvd image in theory removing my admin right of the machine so I rebooted and re-ran the initial setup."

Thank you
