Hi guys,
here is the kext pack for your DELL D620/630/830 machines.

Hi all,
I'm back even with better english so I corrected the first post.
All links are still up (and they will be...thanks box.net ;)).
Btw. I switched to MacBook Pro 13...

Download X3100 installer here:
http://www.box.net/shared/1a2z0m52ms

Download NVIDIA installer here:
http://www.box.net/shared/l2a993a6cl

All fetaures are working now
With this pack all features of DELL D620/630/830 laptops are working now.
Sleep mode, GPU, clamshell, display dimming etc.

Information for old pack users:
Please delete VoodooPS2Controller.kext and AppleAcpiPS2Controller before you install new pack.

Chameleon 2 RC3 integrated:
Yes, Chameleon 2 RC3 is integrated in pack. If you don't need chameleon uncheck it in Customize menu.

Some tips:
This pack is optimized for fresh installs.
Install it after your first boot. Just a few clicks, restart and all hardware will work!

Intel wifi driver soon
Most D620/630/830 users have Intel WIFI 3945.
It is developed under projectcamphor.
http://projectcamphor.mercurysquad.com/

Possible issues:
Touchpad is extremely sensitive
This is because the daemon is triggered.
Download this file http://www.box.net/shared/b6mxm0odt8
and copy it to /Users/USERNAME/Library/LaunchAgents/
or run it from terminal by command ffscrolldaemon
You can try to create new User Dameon with Lingon App (download here http://tr.im/BEvT ) http://tinyurl.com/screenshot10823

USB ports aren't working
Go into BIOS and set
Power Managment > USB Wake support > Enabled

Slow shutdown/reboot/sleep
I noticed that AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext causes slow rebooting.
If your machine is shutting down/rebooting very slow and if you don't need ethernet connection remove this kext.

X3100 Pack Files:
[64BIT] AppleACPIBatteryManager Battery meter in menubar
[32BIT] AppleBCM5751Ethernet Network card
[64BIT] fakesmc This is better compensation for dsmos.kext. If you have DSMOS.kext remove it before install this!
[64BIT] NullCPUPowerManagement Fix for Intel Power Managment Kernel Panic
[64BIT] OpenHaltRestart Fix for Shutdown/Restart problems
[32BIT] FFScroll AppleACPIPS2Nub and ApplePS2Controller Touchpad and keyboard. Why 32bit? This kexts works excellent with FFScroll touchpad driver!
[64BIT] IOATAFamily Fix for IOATAFamyli kernel panic and get works dvdrom.
[64BIT] legacySTAC9205 Codec for sound card. (For AppleHDA :) )
[64BIT] SleepEnabler Fix for sleep
smbios.plist Optimized hw info
DSDT.aml Intel GMA X3100 GFX, Sleep, Clamshell and many other hw features
NVIDIA Pack Files:

im gonna try your pack out on my d820, are you using the vanilla kernel? I'm having that TSCSync stutter so i'm booting with cpus=1 to avoid it...not sure if the 630/620's had the same problem

Slic is THE MAN!

I can confirm that his files work like a charm on a D630 and he always replies, really nice guy indeed!

If you have a Nvidia Quadro NVS card, you need to add the Silent Natit kext from Netkas. Check the public share from a guy in the forum, I am sorry I can't recall his nickname.

@JaE-V: About the stuttering, I experienced the same one on a D620, so I guess it is a CPU related thingy, on Leopard this was corrected by a custom Kernel, not sure if there is currently a fix other than the CPUs=1 the snow kitty. But I guess as soon as the kernel sources get released you will get one soon enough.

Cheers!

Yea, got the info down the line that once a source is out there'll be a fix for it. I'm also in need for an 64bit compatible kext for NVkush. With snow you can boot by generating an EFI string for your quadro card but still no acceleration if your using 64bit.

Slic, I haven't tried your Quadro pkg, but I have found the source of my Silent Natit, the post is:

The share is provided and maintained by electro, props to him for that!

And here is the link to the folder holding the Silent Natit, which it worked like a charm for me:

Thanks Slic for your kext pack.

It has allowed me to install SL in 15 mins tops.

Did you manage to get sleep to work?
Do you boot in 64 bits mode?
To my understanding, the X3100 kext does not work in 64 bits mode. If so, what's the point in having all those 64bits kexts then?

Hi, sleep don't working jet :(
I booting in 32b (yes, because X3100 vanilla kexts is only 32b jet).
32bit mode is not "fully/only" 32bit.
Only one 32bit system process is kernel_task (kernel)
All another apps/kexts etc. in system run as 64bit if available :)

Yeah, the sleep is not working. It was working just fine on my previous Leopard 10.5.8 install.
Too bad, it's pretty handy to have that feature, especially for a laptop.
I keep my finger crossed though, it might work in the future ;)

Have you heard anything about a 64bits X3100 Kext? I heard that Apple had no plans to release a 64bits version :(

Hi Guys,

thanks for so much quality info. I feel that I am almost there on my D630. I installed SL onto my internal HD (booted L from external USB with chameleon rc3).
Now I get a kernel panic in com.apple.iokit.IOATAFamily(2.5.0).
The last thing it was loading before that was AppleIntelPIIXPATA: Secondary PCI ... is disabled
I had a similar problem before, when the kernel could not find the correct ide kext on my old Dell E520. But I got it to work finally by editing a plist to support ICH-8R.
Did anyone experience a similar problem or could even provide a solution?

What this causes is that you cannot run Disk Utility app on Snow Leopard installation drives. This can get worked around by installing BSD.pkg from your SL installation DVD.

Hope it help you guys!

@airwalk776 and all others with problems with Quadro NVS:

Guys, the Natit package works really well OOTB...

If it doesn't you need to troubleshoot in the usual ways:

Remove all injectors from /Extra/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions or your Extensions.mkext and GFX EFI strings from all Boot.plist files.
Use kexthelper to install Natit.kext

This should work fine with no extra troubles, unless you have mess it up somewhere before.

Hope it helps!

I there a way to get the source version of the dsdl.aml file? So I could compare it to my version I compiled myself.

Or even better, what patch was applied to get the x3100 working for you?

I mean the patcher only takes care of some minor issues and hpet and real time clock (rtc). besides that it does nothing to get your graphics working! I tried to remove the complete agp parts but that didn't work either. After this i'm stuck with a complete black screen...

Ok, maybe thats the reason a04 is old. i currently use a15. maybe you get a different dsdt with this bios version. Could you upload the uncompiled version of dsdtpatchergui? it is in the session folder of the application. then i could make a diff and see if there is something different. the smbios.plist did nothing for me

Well, downgrade to a04 didn't work either... i think i will give up for now

Cheers!

you made it work with natit only? d630 with nvs135m? which version of natit? do you have a url? 32 or 64 bit mode? dsdt? sorry but i tried about 1000 nvcap values and i am majorly frustrated with the nvs... 10.5.8 worked nicely.

tried everything from this kext-pack (quatro) here. os-x works but the grafix are not hw accelerated. i'm very close to giving up.

And do you know of anyone who has one of these laptops running Snow? I tried using some config files by another user but the biggest issues is the gfx drivers (X300 by intel. It will often not boot into snow, stopping at chalky white screen. It also has a celeron cpu which you can bypass issues with by using the cpus=1 -v -f arch=i386 GraphicsEnabler=No flag. You can find Silent Natit on electro's repository:

http://cid-8b65993ef55cf014.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/OSx86/Snow%20Leopard/Drivers%20kext%20%5E5Sterowniki%5E6/==%20graphics%20card%20%5E5Karty%20graficzne%5E6==/SilentNatit.kext.x86%5E_64.zip

It works like a charm for me, only thing that I lose is restart/shutdown... but I wasn't able to do that either on Leopard, already tried Psystar's OpenHaltRestart.kext to no avail...

Hope this works for you!

Hello,
I got almost everything working using your installer, thanks. For some odd reason for the graphics and internet it gave me an error about the kexts not being installed properly, (must have been the version of boot132 I was using). I reinstalled package again and graphics installed fine. Now just the internet will not work. I've tried to use the 2nd Wifi card in my laptop, it's a Realtek (from MSI wind laptop) that I've used in Leo fine, but the WLAN configuration utility does not want to run in SL.

Question: I have 10.6.0 and have used the installer package provided to install my kexts.. What is the safest way to upgrade to 10.6.1? Using built in updates and re-installing kexts after the update?

Thanks

I guess only unloading the nullpowermanagement stuff should do the trick right?

*I fixed my ethernet issue by just deleting the ethernet kext completely and using wifi.
*I fixed my natit.kext issue by re-installing it with the kext helper.
Both issues for some reason said the kexts were not installed properly and could not be used.
*Docking Station - Limited Support - Headphone jack doesn't mute audio from laptop.
*Docking Station - Touchpad quits working after "undock"
*the 10.6.1 update worked great.
*I plan to test out the speedstep
*also plan testing outputting to 1080p 32" via docking station.
*I need to Repair my Hard Drive.. It says it does not pass Verification.

Hello i got several Problems..

I installed 10.6 in the D630 Harddisk using "OSInstall.mpkg" on my Macbook. Just the system, no fonts, no translations..
Then i installed chameleon bootloader 2RC3.pkg.
After this i expanded your "DELL D620/630/830 INTEL X3100.mpkg", so i was getting intel.pkg which i also expanded. I copied everything in there, in the locations on D630 Harddisk.

Then i did the followed in Terminal:
(D630 HDD = "sl")

cd /Volumes/sl/System/Library/Extensions
chown –R root:wheel *
chmod –R 755 *

cd /Volumes/sl/Library/LaunchDaemons
chown –R root:wheel *
chmod –R 755 *

cd /Volumes/sl/Library/Preferences/
chown –R root:wheel *
chmod –R 755 *

cd /Volumes/sl/Extra
chown –R root:wheel *
chmod –R 755 *

Now i was booting the HDD in my D630 and the "after-install-screen" appeared. But only internal keyboard was working. I created my user and now i´m stuck in desktop.

wifi works
sound works
x3100 works

but

usb fail (wake up in BIOS is enabled)
touchpad fail

Also appears multiple boxes with Messages, that "System extension cannot be used" "was installed improperly"

What can i do??

Chameleon also uses the /Extra/Extensions for certain extensions. Just to be sure, run this from terminal:

chmod -R 755 /Extra/Extensions/
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/
chown -R root:wheel /Extra/Extensions/
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

Hi all

After failing with other instruction sets for the D630 and failing to get QE/CI, I installed all this stuff on a fresh copy of 10.6.0 for my D630, and the system appears to be booting just fine. However, the display simply shows a bunch of colors and lines.

Previously, I had gotten the X3100 to work with Leopard 10.5.2, including QE/CI, so I know it's possible. I still have an image of that disk around so I tried the EFI strings from its com.apple.Boot.plist. That didn't work.

I also tried booting into Debian Linux, whence I dumped the DSDT, decompiled, edited the RTC section, and recompiled it using iasl. Then I put the new DSDT into /Extra. Still no joy.

Can anyone share any other ideas for me? Is there some kext I should try changing or modifying? Some way of generating new EFI strings? A chicken to sacrifice? Help!

"Touchpad is extremely sensitive
This is because the daemon is triggered.
Download this file http://www.box.net/shared/b6mxm0odt8
and copy to /Users/USER/Library/LaunchAgents/"

My system was really unstable and I couldn't run SL more than 30 minutes without programs beginning to not respond. I found out it was because of the above.. that file was overloading my ram after a while. In process manager it was listed over 20 times. I guess I didn't need it, my mouse isn't that sensitive anyways.

Deleted the file from Launch Agents and it works amazing now.

Yes, I have WXGA+ with a resolution of 1440 x 900, and the external display does work but that's no good on an airplane. Do the people with no problem own lower resolution displays?

What is frustrating to me is that it did work nicely before, using Leo 10.5.2. I wish I knew why!

First of all I want to say thx for your great package !

I've done a fresh install off SL on my Dell D630 (nvidia+broadcomm wifi)
All devices are working fine (wifi etc)..
But I've two issues now and I hope you guys can help me out.

1. BIG ISSUE: My internal display won't turn off. When I want to go to sleep mode it just don't turn off. If I hit the power button again the power menu comes up again and I can click on cancel.. but there is no sleep, I think just because the display won't turn off.. (btw I doesn't turn off either after a few minutes of inactivity)

Is this a problem with the nvidia kexts or powermanagent ? (I noticed QE is NOT working ! ) I hope you can help me because Sleep Mode is very important for me. (Reboot/Shutdown works fine)

2. Small Issue: the touchpad sensivity..
I tried the first soultion you posted and it worked but I had 10-30 of these processes which slowed down my performance. Then I tried the second soultion.. it is working much better than without the fix but its not gone completely. If there is a third thing I can do this would be great...

So thats the curent state of my "hackbook" , I hope there is way to make it completely working. If you have any ideas I will be your testing candidate :-)

thx !

@arb: The Natit kext will most likely work out for you, I don't know about the CPU, I remember in leopard we had to use a special kernel to enable the dual core as it would create a funny effect, I don't know if this has been corrected in SL.

If you look around you might find a Broadcom kext compatible with your card, at least in 32bits mode, I was able to get my D620 working very well in Leopard, now I am using a D630 so I don't the current status.

Hope you can make it work. Please post your results!

Everything except Wake from Sleep seems to be working. I wonder if the kext pack here can fix Wake from Sleep issue. I am pretty new to Mac, so I don't know what is the problem, the power management or video card, etc. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.

Hi,

I downloaded D620SLV1.iso from
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=178411
There is a boot file for 10.5.6, but SL seems to be better.

This installer is the best! I did a fresh install last night and after running the installer I am the closest I've been to fully functional. If I could just get sleep to work I'd be satisfied. I have a 630 with x3100 graphics, 4 gigs of ram and two internal wifi cards. (I bought a broadcom off Ebay a long time ago as the 3945 seemed hopeless) I think the BIOS level is A14. When I select sleep the screen goes black and everything shuts down briefly and then it powers back up. You hear the fan and the optical drive comes to life but the screen stays black and nothing will wake it up. I discovered that if you select "onboard video" as the primary video in the BIOS settings for docking behavior it effects sleep in that the screen does wake up--it's just that it won't stay asleep. Maybe someone who has sleep working could post their BIOS settings and any other tips that make it work. I'll keep trying......

Hi,

thanks to slic and little toying around I have a nice running D630 with Snow Leopard. (I figured that my 1440x900 just needs Natit.kext with old AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext, I wish I could find the sources for this kernel extensions to build a 64bit version. I found some newer Natit.kext sources which doesn't include the intel graphics anymore. The kernel extension is not very complicated...)

But now my main issue:

Sleep works fine after a fresh startup. But after some time of usage it just doesn't work anymore. The laptop starts up immediatly after going to sleep. Does somebody have the same issue or even better a solution/suggestion?

I think it has something to do with heat/fan activity. Maybe the bios somehow prevents the laptop from going to sleep (it also has control over the fan speed). Also sleep only works only after a new start when the laptop was inactive for a while, again most likely because of a cooler system?

There is a "ThermalZone" Scope in the dsdt.dsl. Could this be a way to modify the behaviour?

And by the way: I used hibernate as a work around in leopard for a while. But with SL the bootloader(netkas, chameleon) always says the hibernate image file is corrupted. Any solution for this issue?

Hello,

I have a D630 with an NVidia graphic card
When i install SL the first time, shutdown, restart and sleep work
After i apply the driver pack, sleep, restart and shutdown won't trigger the hardware to stop
I just have a blank (black) screen :'(

I have to push the power button few seconds to shutdown the system completely

I was wondering if someone had this issue and found something, like a kext preventing the system shutdown/restart/sleep ...

Any clue will be welcome !! :)

Thx

Anyone Else get this when they run ps -ef in terminal? Is there a fix for this? I know it's to do with the mouse.. I dont think making a new User Daemon will fix this.. After using the system for about an hour it will no longer let me open applications, giving me the error "unknown error -10810" Maybe 64bit mouse drivers/Touchpad drivers would fix?

Hi blacklabelsktr2,
I have this issue too ! Its because of the ffscrolldaemon, its getting started many many times so the system gets out of memory. If I type "killall -9 ffscrolldaemon" in the terminal I can use the system again....

Does anybody knows how to fix this ?

I'm beginning to wonder if unchecking "Keep it running at all times" would be a fix, or if that would cause your keyboard and mouse stop functioning all together. I'm too afraid to try things like this out. Somewhere on google I thought I saw a page in reference to the -10810 error, where someone came up with a solution to limit the process to only running 5 active processes (I forget where I saw this.) But this could also be a solution.
Maybe another way could be to rewrite FFScroll completely, but I won't think that would solve the issue really. If interested in trying though see here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88811

Like I said, I haven't actually tried any of them out. Just trying to research to find best solution.

After much difficulty this kext pack is now mostly working for me (only the trackpad fails). One of the big issues was that the video drivers for GMAX3100 did not work...perhaps they are only good for WXGA and not WXGA+ like I have. In any case, a generous soul provided working drivers in this post:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=71784&view=findpost&p=1299847

Another key to success was that (using Chameleon 2 RC3) having extensions in /Extra behaved differently from having them in /System/Library/Extensions. I moved everything to /S/L/E/.

Also note that, while I'm not sure of the necessity of having done so, I booted in Linux, dumped and decompiled the DSDT, edited in the "usual" ways, and recompiled it. I basically followed what you see in the link below:

http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=515

I forgot to say also that, when I copied the SL install disk over to a USB nerdstick, the D630 refused to boot from it. It was therefore necessary to first install Snow Leopard on the main hard disk using a USB enclosure and nearby Mac Mini (which I also used for terminal work). Then I could transfer the drive over to the D630 for further work.

Note also that when I subsequently used Migration Assistant to transfer from the old Leopard hackintosh setup, it hosed the SL installation. I restored from backup and avoided making that mistake a second time.

PLEASE TEST YOUR SOFTWARE BEFORE CLAIMING IT WORKS PROPERLY FOR THE DELL D620/D630 and D820 or whatever. WE ALL KNOW YOUR DSDT IS NO GOOD FOR THE D630 and my D620!!!! YOUR PS2 SCROLL DRIVERS HAVE ISSUES WITH THE XML CONFIG, SINCE YOU GUYS WERE TOO STONED TO ACTUALLY DO SOME TESTING. DO YOU THINK ITS COOL TO POST FIRST ABOUT SOMETHING AND CLAIM U GOT IT WORKING? EVEN THOUGH YOU DIDN'T?

P.S. HERE IS A KEXT PACK I TESTED THAT WORKS FOR THE D620
You should edit the smbios.plist according to ur ram speed.

PLACE EXTENSIONS in /Extra/Extensions
PLACE KEXTS in /System/Library/Extensions

CHEERS NEWBS!
OH BTW, SL 10.6.0 doesn't like having kexts in /S/L/E
So I still havn't gotten Graphics working on my Quadro 110m

Btw this dell d620 with quadro 110m works fine with Kalyway 10.5.2

Hey slic!

First things first, thanks for the great work of putting all this stuff together.

People *should* understand that there are often slight differences between laptops even under the same model name. There might be several different revisions, bringing on subtle differences between hardware platforms. Thus, not everything that works for one of us perfectly, will also work for the other. Dsdt files may even differ from one bios version to the other, amount of ram, etc., on the same platform, not to mention subtle revision changes and different production lots on various components, made by the manufacturer. Therefore, getting everything right is a long and often frustrating process, and it requires a lot of patience.

And you're always much better off extracting, editing, and recompiling *your own* dsdt file, instead of randomly trying out stuff that comes from others, not necessailly / completely matching your system's hardware specs.

I'm still in the pre-install phase, putting together everything I need for my first try. I have a D830 with Nvidia Quadro NVS140M, and hopefully, it will soon run SL if I'm lucky. The final target I have on my mind will be a triple boot SL / Win7 / Ubuntu installation, but let's just take it one step at the time. ;)

The problem I've noticed in your first post is that you have the same link posted under "Download NVIDIA installer here" and "NVIDIA Sources", they both go the installer package. I would really like to have the nVidia source package instead, as I'm trying to install Chameleon to a small 200MB EFI partition, with kekxts and everything, and then vanilla SL to a different partition.

I've found this install method posted by r0m30 on the Chameleon / VodooLabs forums, and I'd like to give it a shot.

I'll keep you guys posted with the results as they show up ;)

Hey mate, good to see you here as well ;)

I've patched, fixed and recompiled my very own DSDT with the koalala's DSDT Patcher GUI for windows, found on:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142434

I've applied the fixes for HPET, RTC, Aliases, Local0 and MUTE using the patcher. Then I've manually fixed the "1 Errors, 9 Warnings, 7 Remarks" that I was getting with iasl.

It went easier than I've thought, and Google was my best friend. It helped me fix all but one remark, one that people say it can be safely overlooked. On a sidenote, I've had exactly the same results with iasl under linux, so I assume this windows version works quite identically.

Now, with a patched, cleaned and recompiled dsdt file, hopefully I won't even need a hpet kext anymore. Nor I will need the Disabler, and other dirty hacks.

msingh says that the nVidia Quadro NVS 140M on the D830 may (miraculously) work out of the box on a vanilla install.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?&showtopic=187356

I still have to test that one, and confirm if it's true. Maybe I'm lucky and my graphics card was natively used in some macbook variant. Otherwise, I'll have to throw in the nVidia files as well, and cook them with the rest.

I think I'll give it a shot today, and come back with more info as soon as I'll get all this stuff up and running.

Cheers, and good luck!

Hi,
I tried the 10.6.2 Update through Apple Update. Deleted and replaced SleepEnabler.kext before rebooting. Seemed to update fine. However, when rebooting, it seems as though USB and Audio (and even bluetooth) no longer work. I applied the original kexts.. but no success with getting them working again. Anyone else experience this or know the fix?

Thanks

How I fixed my problem after the 10.6.2 update..this is odd, but it worked for me..
First I made a copy of my screwd up SL install to a USB. Then:
1. Went to:
http://osx86sv.wordpress.com/2009/10/23/os-x-on-a-dell-latitude-d630c-d630/
and downloaded Bootloader2. Installed the included Charmeleon 1 Installer to the USB drive, Copied included Boot to USB Drive /Volumes Folder.
2. Re-installed original Audio kexts from original D630 Package in this post (the original one, before the installer) Followed Included Directions on adding the VoodoHDA Helper and preferences.
The USB copy now has bluetooth working, audio, and USB again!!! I'm going to either do the same to my main drive or just clone it over.

Update: As mentioned in step 1.. The boot file included with that fixed almost all my issues.. It runs even better than before.. USB and Bluetooth work everytime now.. whereas before they would stop working every once in a while.

If you restart and have issues with your graphics resolution.. I just reinstalled the D630 installer package (uncheck option for reinstalling chameleon and then I used HelperKext to add SleepEnabler.kext and Natit.kext back in (to overwrite the existing bad ones). Also I dont need the Ethernet so I deleted that.

Meantime my Touchpad is running well. But usb & bluetooth is broken every second reboot. Which kext is responsible for these two?

Especially after runnig "diskutil repairpermission" much get broken. Why?

Radchs2, I think I found a fix for this.. See my last post. Replacing the Boot file fixed it for me. (Doesnt seem to run Chameleon RC2) but atleast usb and bluetooth no longer die every so often.

Make sure you replace the boot file using terminal: (2 lines)
sudo -s
cp /Volumes/NAME OF DRIVE/LOCATION OF BOOT YOU DOWNLOADED/Boot /Volumes/NAME OF DRIVE

Not sure if this would work (it should work in 32bit mode for sure), but try fixing the sound this way. Download one of the original packs:
Old X3100 pack: http://www.box.net/shared/5dxqfrx5oz <-this one for you
Old NVIDIA pack: http://www.box.net/shared/xhi6evrq1s

1. You should see a VoodooHDA.kext. Drag it into Kext Helper b7 (download it if you dont have it)
2. Open folder called VoodooHDAHelper, drag the Voodoo HDA Helper program into your Utilities
3. Copy the folder VoodooHDA to Your_OS_X_disk/Library/
4. Add application Voodoo HDA Helper to list of login items in

You Probably just need to initialize the connection. See instructions here for help:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1152.html

The first time I set mine up it did the same thing. After spending about a minute in the Network Connections Screen, it initialized and started actually loading websites.

just a fyi. here is the guide I used. well all I used was the bootDisk ISO and installed from DVD directly fresh. The guide has both leopard and snow. u are looking for the file. D620SLv1.ISO
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=178411

All you need to do to boot the Retail Snow leopard dvd is boot off the boot disk when u get the selections remove the disk and insert the retail dvd and press F5 until it refreashes and then select the dvd. and install.

Hope this helps. It won't get everything working. sound should work but not alot of other stuff. but the guide will have suggestions on how to get other drivers working.

hi all, I broke the lcd for my D630.
Why I was so long inactive.
Now I have an external monitor and I'm trying to install SNOW. If you succeed in everything and I will be back to OSX.
And because it has several new kexts, then the whole pack update!

First, thanks for this installer. I have managed to get everything working on my Inspiron 1720 except the x3100 graphics. Been working on this for over a month. Am on 10.6.2 and after installing your pack, upon starting up, either in 64 or 32 the screen is blue than gets deeper in color (purplish) and thats as far as it goes. However, when I start in safe mode, i have full 1400x900 resolution and system profiler shows the kexts as loaded. Any idea why I can't boot in normal mode, 64 or 32? Used my own dsdt, maybe something in there is causing it? Kinda new to this, any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, you have probably tried it, but I am running my D630 with GraphicsEnabler from Chameleon - and it works with external display. But I have nvidia and not sure, if this can be a solution for x3100...

BTW - thanks a lot for your kext pack! I am testing it on D630 since yesterday and most of the features works perfectly... :)

Wow.. NVS 140m right away in Snow Leopard with QE / CI

I gotta try this on my Thinkpad T61

Welcome back, slic!
Sorry to hear about the bad news of the broken LCD.

My install worked fine using the metod I've linked before. I've had no Mac at hand, only a DVD, some USB sticks, a WinXP box, and the laptop itself. Still, I've managed to put things together, install Snow, and update it to 10.6.2. Then I've made my laptop triple boot, intalling Ubuntu and Win7 as well. With a little knowledge and a lot of reading, it is perfectly possible.

My laptop now looks as my signature states:

I am using original SL 10.6 Retail DVD. Because not all of this pack was stable on my D630, I have made my own patched DSDT.aml and kext pack (assembled from several Snow Leopard D620/630/830 HOWTOs and proven sources - netkas.org, etc...). What is important - this installation can be upgraded via Apple Software Update to the latest version 10.6.2 :)

I will post it here after another day or two of testing - just to be sure... ;)

it seems that the problem only exists for me after:

update to 10.6.2
update of fakesmc to 2.5
update to netkas' Sleepenabler.kext for 10.6.2

not sure which one causes the problem but it is a bit annoying.

I'm trying to install onto a USB stick on my D630 with Intel X3100 graphics (1440x900 native resolution).

SL installed fine onto the USB stick but when I try to boot off of the stick it seems to be working just fine and then right when I think it would normally show the initial screen it just goes black. I've been scouring all of the Hackintosh related forums for hours and hours and can't find a solution.

Ideas anyone?

I mentioned this data a few posts ago.
Basically, updating is safe, just make sure you delete the SleepEnabler.kext before rebooting or you won't be able to get it working again easily. Let me know if you are confused by my posts, it late here, so I'm kind of tired. I'll try and clear up the instructions if needed.

You may need to re-apply some kexts after update depending on your config.
I also decided to use an older version of the boot loader which fixed my usb and bluetooth from dropping out. I never made my own dst.aml file.. so this was a work around for me. To use the older version I just copied the boot file from the link below http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2744542/boot onto my current drive..

Now I updated from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2, but I don't see any trouble if you go straight from 10.6.0 to 10.6.2 as long as you delete that SleepEnabler before reboot.

Hi,
I tried the 10.6.2 Update through Apple Update.

Then:
1. Went to:
http://osx86sv.wordpress.com/2009/10...de-d630c-d630/ (dang it, I copied the url wrong, so it wont work. For the boot file I'm using.. try this instead.. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2744542/boot )
and downloaded Bootloader2.

I just reinstalled the D630 installer package (uncheck option for reinstalling chameleon and then I used HelperKext to add SleepEnabler.kext and Natit.kext back in (to overwrite the existing bad ones).

my current specs (my profile wont let me update my sig for some reason)
Got a wifi card that works with airport! - the same card in the current mbp's
running 10.6.2
Everything working except for Sleep and Restart (also I don't think secondary monitor works..haven't tried it.)

Well... I'm getting close but not quite there. I'm typing this now on my D630 under Snow Leopard but I'm in Safe Boot mode. If I don't do a safe boot I get this error:

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::registerLPCDriver - WARNING - LPC device initialization failed: C-state power management not initialized

I suspect it has something to do with the DSDT file. I've tried using the DSDT Patcher but that didn't get rid of the error. I've also tried removing the DSDT file but get the same error.

Suggestions are welcome...

Hello gurus.

I've got retail SL installed with SLICs patch set and I'm able to boot up into SL on a Dell D630 with a GMA965 Intel video card.

However only my external monitor is appearing in the proper resolution (and size). Actually my LCD is also 'noticed' properly and loading the GMAX3100 appropriately and it's registering at 1440x900 (I used SwitchResX pro to change the settings). The strange thing is that the LCD is 'showing' my 1440x900 desktop bigger than it should, only the right 1/3 of the desktop and it's appearing only on the left side of the LCD. A picture's worth a 1000 words. The first pic is of the 'sheared' LCD image. Second is the System profiler showing my GMAX3100 drivers are loaded properly and registering the proper resolution.

SwitchResX is registering both monitors properly and their appropriate resolutions.
The LCD is vendor: AUO-6AF, product: 1347
The Monitor is vendor: NEC-38A3, product: 43BC.

I've build a custom resolution in SwitchResX for the LCD using the following:

Pixel Clock: 96.3 Mhz non-interlaced
Active: H=1440, V=900
Front Porch: 64pixels, 3 lines
Sync Width: 32pixels, 3 lines
Back Porch: 224pixels, 6 lines
Blanking: 320 pixles, 12 lines
total: 1720 pixels, 912 lines
scan rate: 54.716 kHz, 59.966 Hz
image size: 303mm, 189mm

I've also tried the 'standard' 1440x900 resolution that OSX wants to use and it looks the same just with fewer vertical artifacts...it still registers too large a desktop scale and only on the left 1/2 of the LCD.

If I remove the GMAX3100 kexts I boot into a prop looking (but scaled) 1024x758 GPU-only desktop. From all the research I've done the GMA965 and Dell D630 combo is an OSX bummer but it appears it's not a driver issue, it's a monitor issue with the AU Optronics LCD used in the Dells. Any ideas how I can address this issue? Note that I have the same issue in Kalyway's 10.5.2, iPC 10.5.6, Retail Leopard and Retail Snow Leopard. That's why I don't think it's a GMAX3100 issue! Thanks.

Thanks for the Great Pack. I have the D830 T7800 Processor and NV 140 4GB ram with Dell 1505 Wireless and same 9205 audio.

Right now I want to stick with 10.5.8 and use Chameleon RC4 and a DSDT.aml that is closest to my system. Obvious it will be hard to find with my specific processor with Both C and P states.

Does anyone have a Good working DSDT.aml and how do I get this working with 10.5.8? I have already tried and got Vaniila 10.5.6 and combo update going with Chameleon RC4. Found a DSDT but it does not look like DSDT override is working? How can I tell?

I am getting SMC warnings and if I keep the CPUPM I get a Kernel Panic. I have fakeSMC going. PlatformUUID does not seem to work in 10.5.8 nor does the voodooHDA?

I think the problem with the Power management is that I don't have a good DSDT with all the fixes right?

Hi guys,
First thanks to slic for such topic which makes installation 10.6 on D820 simply enough.

For those with sleep issues :
- www.kexts.com and download sleepenabler [if you use 10.6 or 10.6.1]
- copy to /E/E
- rebuilt Extensions.mkext
- reboot

Done :)

Update yours system basicaly via software updater, but if you use sleepenabler.kext, you must remove them before update and download new sleepenabler.kext for 10.6.2.

Some question to you. Are you using DSDT.aml from Slic, if yes, have you any problem with USB ports?

The DSDT in this package is Great has all the fixes I asked about in my first post.

What is not working for me is:

AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext
PS2 keyboard not functioning
USB flash drive insertion error from sleep/wake << I thought there was a DSDT fix for this? I see the DTGP script for each USB device section? Could my USB ports address be different from the DSDT provided?

Here is my kernel log message about Power management? Is there a fix for this?

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPower Management) timed out
Jan 16 13:19:03 my-MacBook kernel[0]: ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::registerLPCDriver - WARNING - LPC device initialization failed: C-state power management not initialized

Does this mean the DSDT is not have the complete script for this to work? I don't see any LPC script in the DSDT? Maybe I am overlooking it. Is this a C and P state issue?

Should I use VoodooPS2 and remove all the Mac Nub and PS2 kexts supplied in this package?

If I use the voodooPS2 what other kexts do I need to remove besides the ones in this package?

These?
com.apple.driver.ApplePS2Trackpad.plist in Preferences folder?
FFscroll Daemon.plist in LaunchDaemons folder?
ffscrolldaemon from the /usr/bin folder?

What is the purpose of the smbios.plst? I have the latest Chameleon. DO I need it still? Is there a PlatformUUID kext for the D830 or do I add the UUID in the smbios.plist?

I see some infomration about before I update to 10.6.2 what I need to do as far as sleepenabler but is there anything else I need to know?

Last question, why can't most of the kexts in this package go into the /volumes/efi/Extra/extensions instead of the /system/library/extensions?

My Laptop is Dell D830 4GB Ram 2.6GZ processor . 1505 BCM wireless
10.6.0 snow

EDITED a FEW MINUTES LATER:

I used the installer this time instead of trying to put in the kexts and plists files manually and now everything works except the ETHERNET kext is not loading correctly and the Disk Insertion from sleep/wake. PS2 now works.

Any clues on what I need to do to get Ethernet and Disk Insertion fixed?

DO I need the smbios.plist and what about the PlatformUUID.plist that is not included in the package? Where does the System UUID go?

Thanks

EDITED AGAIN:

I should have read the guide more carefully I did not set my USB to wake in Powermanagemnt section of the Bios. The DIsk insertion error after sleep/wake is now resolved.

Removed the Ethernet Kext as it was messing with the trackpad.

Is there any driver available yet to get ethernet working? Will it happen? I guess I can purchase a USB to ethernet adapter.

I have a 2.6GHZ processor, how can I change this to show 2.6 instead of 2.0GHZ? SMBIOS.plist?

Is the DSDT.aml need any editing for my particular processor?

And I still have a question about the Extensions in the package installer. Can't those all go into the Volumes/EFI/Extra folder instead?

Thanks

Quick Help. I extracted my DSDT using Ubuntu and a nifty command from this site to get me all the ACPI tables zipped.

The DSDT provided in this package looks pretty much the same as the one I extracted overall as far as definition block and CPU etc addresses. Only one concern is the CPUPM _CST section. Slight differences in address as you can see. Do I need to mod this?

I see some differences in addresses. Do I need to change these values or not?

Last issue. I had everything working Shutdown, Restart everything except the Ethernet and now shutdown is back to the way it is in all PC laptops, you have to hold down the power button and also the PC NUB Kext won't load all of a sudden. I used the new Kext utility for Snow could that have broken something? I was running the chmod, chown and touch commands manually and everything worked then. Maybe its something else that I cannot figure out?

Hi, you must edit and add vendor ID of your dell wireless card to IO80211Family.kext.
Or, use this script:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/zln2xwm2dyg/bcm43xx_enabler.sh
Simply double click and run. Restart and post here, if it is working.

Hi everybody! I've been lurking on this thread for months now without actually commenting. First and foremost I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread and thereby helping me get my D630 running OS X with little difficulty. My only issue is Sleep. It used to work flawlessly whether closing the lid or choosing sleep from the Apple Menu. But ever since 10.6.2 I can't get it to work properly. If I close the lid, it does nothing. Fans stay on, HDD still spins, and when I open the lid the desktop is still there. If I choose sleep from the menu, it tries to sleep. The screen goes black and the HDD spins down but the fans stay running. Then in about 10-15 seconds, the DVD drive and the HDD come back on and the screen lights up where it left off.

I've got the latest version of SleepEnabler.kext from kexts.com and compiled a DSDT using DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e from InsanelyMac. I'm no dummy, but I don't completely understand all the ins and outs of this OSX86 situation yet. I'm throroughly comfortable on both OS X and Windows, but it's just some of the inner workings stuff that confuses me. So all that being said, does anyone have any suggestions for me to get my D630 to sleep comfortably!?

Thanks in advance!!

Frustrated. I have a Dell D630 with Intel GMA965 video, I have tried various installers and cannot get 10.6 to boot to setup, I always get the 'you must shut down your computer' message. My ATA settings in the BIOS are set for AHCI, should they be set to ATA? What method have those of you use to boot with the 10.6 disc?

try to boot leopard 10.6.2 Universal v3.6, but if you have intel integrated on Dell d630, you need to plug in external monitor. After installation and and patching with dell d630 x3100pack from Slic, you will have everything working with internal screen included, and the you don't need external monitor.

THis may be useful to you

I'm not sure about that. I created a boot disk from a image

just look for

Update: 10.6.0 Boot CD for Snow Leopard Retail Install here:
at the bottom of the first post. that image will allow you to boot off the retail dvd and do a native install. All works execpt for wireless ethernet and graphics for 3d stuff.. if u need ethernet drivers let me know and I will find where I found the driver to get it working or send u the correct kext file.

Hi the installer is not a combo updater.
You must remove ALL old kexts and then install kextpack.

or remove only problematic kexts (see readme).

Maybe you have some other kernel. You need original vanilla kernel from original Mac OSX Snow DVD, not from SnowOSXUniFlash1.0.

Has anyone tried using these kexts with the non-Mac boot method that r0m30 documented on insanelymac? I was able to create the HFSPlus partitions with all the necessary bits, created my own DSDT.aml (caveats to this, btw!), and com.apple.Boot.plist file(s). Zero luck so far.

I've tried everything with my d830, and even with an external monitor, I can't get past where it starts the GUI for the install. I've got the dreaded Intel GMA965 and even using an external monitor, it only coughs up purple/pink horizontal lines. I tried just about every GraphicsMode known, from 800x600x16 to 1920x1200x32 -- with various incarnations of the same result.

Someone please tell me I won't need another Mac to do this!

I'm confident that once I get booted into the install, I can make everything work, but this is just absurd!

Just as a note, when booting back into the parted magic USB key, I have to run fsck.hfsplus /dev/sda2 (the partition that I have my chameleon installed on) before mounting it to make changes.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

So you installed without DSDT.aml in your root partition or /Extra folder?

Also, what is this sleep trick?

Is this where you let it just 'sit' for 10 minutes or more, then wake it up?

After it's installed, is it possible to boot straight to the LCD panel without the need for an external monitor?

Ok, so I've tried a few more things, without success thus far, but some progress.

I edited my DSDT and recompiled, removing all the AGP sections, as well as the CRT, DVI and TV subsections from the VID device. I removed the AGP device completely, as well as its scope. While I was in there, I also yanked out all the nasty code from the TPM device, as I figure it's not necessary anyway.
I am using the X3100 and X3100FB modified kexts and removed the Apple supplied ones. I'm not sure if this is helping or hurting, but the results is the same.

Thus, now when I boot, using 1920x1200x32 (Yes, my LCD supports this resolution), it gets to the GUI part of the installer and it is a black blank screen, but it is at least back-lit.

I'm wondering if I can use the default Apple VESA drivers to install with and worry about the X3100 after installation -- is this possible?

So, I have a dell D630 with the intel GMA965 - is that the X3100? It sounds to me like you installed this to an external drive on a Mac, then used the drive to boot the D630. You then installed to the D630?

Is there a step by step procedure somewhere?

FYI, I've installed SL on a D620. For most of these, I've used A preset up bootloader that I can install to my USB drive with SL retail install DVD imaged on it.

EDIT: Somehow I got this up and running. Stable and fast.

EDIT #2 - OK, I finally bit the bullet and installed VoodooHDA and Fakesmc (new version) in the /E/E folder. Pretty stable right now. two problems: Jumpy trackpad and no sound input.

FYI - I'm running Crossover for the few Windows apps I need. Kinda weird - Office 2007 (for XML parsing)->WinXP->Crossover->Snow Leopard->on a Dell. Plays with the mind a little.

Thanks

I first want to say great stuff here. By far the most centralized resource for getting my d630 up and running on SL.

I have read through every post so far and found solutions to all my problems. The one issue that seems outstanding is USB ports working. I have found that my USB ports seem to be somewhat randomly working.

Most of the time the two ports in the back work. Occasionally it will change and one in the back will work and only one on the side will work. It's a big deal because I use external keyboard and mouse as well as an external HD.

My main question here is: Which specific kext file is responsible for USB ports? I haven't seen solid documentation of this anywhere. I would love to know which kext file i should be trying different versions of to resolve this issue.

Thanks for any help.

Just an update on my d830 (Bios A15) with the Intel x3100 and a 1920x1200 screen. This is running a Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Vanilla kernel and Chameleon 2.0 RC4.

I've got almost everything working, some without kexts even. This is possibly one of the nicest laptops to use with Snow Leopard

Sleep, by power button or clamshell close, works -- natively, no kext. When you open the display, it wakes perfectly.
Restart and Halt work exactly as they should -- using OpenHaltRestart.kext, but will test without
P and C states work when on battery, battery life goes to 3.5 hours immediately and openssl speed tests confirm a seriously degraded performance, ha! No NullCPUPowerManagement.kext required.
Audio works using the legacy9205.kext, including headphone out, line in, built-in Mic
PS2 keyboard/trackpad/trackpoint all work beautifully using the ApplePS2Controller.kext and AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext (must reside in /S/L/E)
Display dimming works not only with the Fn keys, but also with the slider under Display Properties
Battery display works using AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext
gigabit ethernet works, including WOL using AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext
Bluetooth works natively
Volume up/down/mute work natively, as does the power button for sleep
I flashed a Dell 1390 (BCM4311) and also a BCM4328 with Apple Device IDs so now it recognizes either as an Airport Extreme.

I'm still having issues with the rear CRT port.. if I press Fn-F8 to switch from the internal LCD to mirror to CRT, it scrambles the video and I can't fix it. Perhaps setting up a hot corner for 'sleep' would do the trick, but I think a simple display re-init in the DSDT if I can find what function governs that flip back and forth would also do the trick. Feel free to contribute here...

The only other thing I can think of is migrating everything to 64 bit, but that shouldn't be hard. The only device drivers I'm using are the Broadcom ethernet, PS2 keyboard/mouse and legacySTAC9205. The rest should be fine, but I'll test soon enough anyway.

So, how to do all this?

SERIOUS DSDT modifications. I'm going to attach my current DSDT for others to use, but do NOT take it thinking that it will 'just work' on your laptop. You'll need to have a Latitude D830 with Bios Revision A15, x3100 (965 chipset) video, and a 1920x1200 panel.. otherwise, I can't guarantee *anything*.

P.S. When I say SERIOUSLY modified, I'm not joking. I have added and removed devices, hacked up IRQs, put in different OSID checks, changed device names, timers, and even IDs. Do not take this as a panacea for all your laptop compatibility woes, but do take it as proof that you can get very close to native operative performance with just about any laptop if you are persistent enough and willing to read ACPI specs. No really, go get the document to read about what you don't understand BEFORE asking questions.

P.P.S. I also am using a custom /boot file. I'll include that as well. PC-EFI 10.6 does NOT initialize the x3100 correctly!

P.P.P.S. Quick lists of kexts in /Extra/Extensions
AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext
AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext
IOATAFamily.kext
OpenHaltRestart.kext
fakesmc.kext
legacySTAC9205.kext
And in /System/Library/Extensions:

And my /Extra/smbios.plist file:

Just a quick update -- on those C & P-states, unless you're using a T7300, those may (probably) not work for you. You'll need the FID/VID values for your specific processor, and then recompile the dsdt accordingly.

Best of luck.

I've tried everything I can think of and can't get sleep to work. My D630 is a [email protected], Intel GMA 965 (X3100). I'm loath to mess with the DSDT file, as I know I'll mess it up. Everything else works, P-States, QE/CE, OpenGL, wireless and wired.

I've gone a much different route, using Voodoo Kexts for power mgmt and sound. I get really confused when I check IORegistry. It looks like most of the extensions say Apple this or that.

I also have and entry in the DSDT that is Device (VID). There is no AGP device, etc In IOReg with a video drive. I have VID2@2,1 and a VID@2. I've read in a couple of posts that problems with video drivers can prevent sleep.

Any ideas?

i think it's a problem with sleepenabler.kext. The distro is 10.6.2.
is there a solution?
