If you help me with this problem I will love you.

So previously I posted a thread about how I'm in the middle of convincing my parents to get me a macbook pro.

My dad came up with this stupid metaphor that I'm trying to turn on him.

My dads comparing

My PC and the Macbook pro

to

A Ford car and a Porche

because the ford car gets from point A to point B just as the PC and macbook pro

accept the porche is more fun to ride such as a macbook pro

I know this metaphor is stupid but I can't figure out how to explain it to him.

-Thanks

Well you could say it also gets there from point a to point b but ensures a safer, smoother ride? *shrug*

I'm not sure how you could arrange that idiotic metaphor to persuade your dad to agree to buy you a MacBook Pro, but I have a few decent ideas...
  • Working on a Mac is much quicker (i.e Changing your IP address on a Mac is as simple as clicking 3 buttons, on Windows, you have to go through about 50 menus and windows just to change your IP)
  • We all know modern PCs ship with Windows Vista, and any person, ANY would say it is the most buggiest OS ever.
  • On a Notebook/Netbook, the average battery life is around 45 mins, on a MacBook Pro, around 7 hours.
  • Macs can be used for almost anything, the power inside those machines will be adequate for anything, and OS X takes FULL advantage of all the hardware. On a PC, the OS does definately NOT take advantage of the hardware.
  • When plugging in a Plug and Play device on Vista, there is 80% chance that Vista will not properly install the drivers, or will not have support for them, on a Mac, it's instant Plug and Play, and if it says "Mac Supported" on the box, It will work, no doubt.
  • Many companies are switching to developing (hardware support and software) on Macs, as it is just SOO easy.
  • The standard applications for Mac (iLife, iWork ect) are MUCH more professional than anything that ships standard on Windows.

I hope these points reach your dad.

I guess what Your dad doesn't like is the price. So here are few "hints" about that :

- MacBook should work fine for many years - while most of PCs - especially those cheap one not necessarily.
- Apple's new versions of OS will work fine even on quite old hardware properly - while almost every Windows needs an upgrade - or it will run like Vista in most cases. ( actually it worked quite nice on my laptop ).
- Mac OS is let's say "immune" to viruses, spyware etc. ( well we know it is not, but 95% of malicious software is for windows ) - so You don't have to buy for Antivirus, Firewall etc. - You can have them, but don't have to.
- Mac OS X updates are free - and new version upgrade is dirt cheap ( 29$ for Snow Leo ).
- If You're a student, You can get 15% discount at Apple Store for selected models.
- And it comes ( Mac ) with full system packed with multimedia software ( iLife etc. ) while Windows does not.

- Most important for me...if You're used to Windows - You are used to errors, bsod, stupid pop- up messages, ballons, windows popping up at logon etc. Once You go Mac - it's like Zen...peace and reliability

No other ideas at the moment.

Thank you for ALL your AMAZING help guys!

It's going to be about a month before I can argue with my dad again (I need to give him a break)

But he agreed to get me an LCD HD Monitor..because he's weird like that...oh and 2 more gigs of ram...I posted another thread on that topic =)

But anyways, that you soooo much for all your support. This is seriously why infinitemac is the #1 site that I'd recommend for support (and I have recommended this site to many people)
