Confirmed Remote That Works

Ok I have just bought a remote that only cost £5 it works with osx out of the box. The reason being is it get seen a s a usb keyboard. Osx asked me to identify it on pluging in the reciever. So I just closed that window. Functions that work are. Volume up and down. Shutdown when you press this it comes up with options sleep restart shutdown etc. For this you just use the arrows to navigate which then press enter. Numeric keybad works to enter numbers. In front row you can navigate and enter not found how to come back out in the directory structure. In itunes right and left arrow do next track and previous but only if itunes is the selected app. You can also scroll up and down the track list or what ever window you are in. Need to explore more but so far so good. Some of the other keys need to be mapped to make full use but considering I have only plugged it in and played straight away i think its a winner for the money. Plus its a real slimline remote. Heres the link to the item on ebay.

Wow, that's cheap. I still prefer the combination of an Apple Remote, and the software Mira. With this software an Apple Remote could be used by an eHome-compatible infrared receiver (f.e. from an Windows Media Center remote control). The best thing is, that every application can be controlled by the Apple Remote, configurable by a preferences pane. Nothing beats the Apple Remote, because it has only 6 keys you can use it blind.

Lawless: If your Remote emulates an USB keyboard, try ControllerMate. With this software you can create various application layouts for your remote or any other USB device like Joysticks, Gamepads and more. You can add keystrokes or movements to any key, even with logic functions, timers and a lot more things. ControllerMate detects if a program is running and can decide if it runs in back- or foregrund. I can recommend this prog, it's also very good for gamers who don't like the game-internal gamepad settings. Just use a keyboard setting and redirect the keys to your gamepad by ControllerMate.

Lawless: Try installing mira too. Perhaps the receiver is detected by mira, then you can use an Apple remote too.

Try Romeo, it's a very good cellphone remote application. I always use it when presenting and stuff.

I think the Apple Remote is unique, I never want to miss it. No big heavy blocks with rubber-bumps and twelve rows with four keys each, only four keys on a control-circle, a play-key in the middle and a menu button. No looking for 'where-is-that-key-now?', just feel it. That's great if it's dark. Although the Apple Remote is so small and only infrared, it's range is very big. And for media player applications six buttons are enough, I even use it for Parallels to switch between Cohrerence/Fullscreen/Window-mode.

If one was wanting to use Apple Remote, what IR-Receiver would I have to look for?

I am using http://www.hama.de/portal/searchSele...rch*mce+remote a Hama MCE Remote, which works partially, Volume Up & Down, Up & Down and ok for EyeTV3.

Unfortunately it is not seen by mira, but does not work with Apple Remote either.
