That's always the most important - to be satisfied with what you have. 
You might like this it will fix the "Unknown" to your correct CPU modell on 10.5.x - just for the eye-candy but...

As I wrote getting a complete Screenshot of the point where it hangs & propably even your dmesg output on a succefull boot (for comparisson) might be usefull to find the reason for this problem.
