What version is right for me? (Complete System Specs Included)
Hi guys, this is my first post. I'm turning my AMD machine into a DAW for recording & I want to install OSX & Pro Tools. I need to know what the best version for my pc would be. Please take these factors into consideration.
1. I'm a total noob to OSX so I don't know all the commands & ways to manipulate the software. In other words I need a version that installs easily. 2. I need a version with the drivers for my system or someone that can explain how to integrate the drivers I need. Other than that I think I can handle it. Here's my system specs. If you need any additional information just ask! Thank you!! |

What do you mean retail? It's my understanding that it has to be patched to run on a pc. I read somewhere people were using hardware called EFI-X & loading retail versions. Am I missing something?

I just read that you could install retail OSX on Intel but not AMD. It says "near retail for AMD" http://www.infinitemac.com/archive/i...hp/t-2712.html
Is that right or do you know something better? |

Ok, I found another problem. OS X Retail is almost 7GB & I don't have a dual layer dvd burner. Is there a way around this?

Just try any of the latest distros, like latest iAtkos 10.5.7. You need to research what options would be best for your hardware.
Any will install easily, but you better know that getting all of your hardware working from the beginning is almost imposible (besides the better approach is the opposite, install distro with just the basic things, and then add support for each piece of hardware on your own after you got Leopard running). |

Thanks for the reply. As of last night I configured a successful LawlessPPC 10.5.6, Windows XP Dual Boot. Everything seems to be working correctly in OS X. Had a little trouble with the firewire but I got it straight now. So now this thread is closed unless you guys have something to add.
