INSTAHackintosh OS X DVD Builder Released

The always productive PCWiz has released yet another useful application for the Mac OSx86 community: INSTAHackintosh.

INSTAHackintosh is an automated DVD builder that creates for you your own OSx86 DVD that can be perfectly tailored for your computer meaning you just insert the DVD, click through the Installer, install and you have a fully functional OSx86 system, no extra drivers needed. INSTAHackintosh is basically a GUI shell around STVLNUB's powerful INSTAHackintosh.sh script and package (based on works like ritalin's OSx86 patcher and InstaNBI/InstaDMG). This application is currently in beta so once you have tested, please report feedback whether you got it to work or if you got an error (with exact error text and screenshot please) so the problem can be diagnosed. Steps to make your own DVD:

1) Drag your packages into the right sections in the order you want them to be installed
2) Browse and select your OS X Retail DVD DMG and the location you want your finished ISO to be saved in
3) Click Build and wait as your ISO is generated; burn ISO onto a DVD

INSTAHackintosh can be downloaded here (16MB). Please, if possible, use this program on a test partition because this program does run some powerful scripts as root and can harm your system if things go wrong.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are planning on making your own packages, a couple of things to note. First of all, mpkg's are not supported. Only single .pkg files are supported. Second, you MUST use PackageMaker 2.1 to make your packages (download here ), the new PackageMaker 3 which is included in current builds of Developer Tools makes packages that are NOT compatible with this app.

I've tried installing a osx86 version of OSX to get a feel for a mac. But no disc has ever been fully compatible with all of the components of my computer. Why is there not a program like this that run in a windows environment that can analyzes my system and construct a disc that will be catered to my system's components thus leaving me a disc that will install perfectly onto my computer. maybe this can be supported through an open-source community and SVN.

I ask this question here because it seems like thats what this program does but only in a osx environment.

This app doesn't "analyze" your system, you have to create the packages yourself and add them. Of course no disc will be totally compatible, you have to use add on drivers. You can't pop in a disc, install, and expect everything to work the first time

'Tis the nature of OSx86.

Hate to be the carrier of bad news but a Windows version is absolutely impossible at this stage. Many of the UNIX utilities used to construct a DVD are not available on Windows, plus Windows doesn't support shell script or anything like that.

I don't agree with having to customize a version just to run on your computer. Linux distro's such as Ubuntu and Open Suse are much more compatible and stable than OSx86. Of course, this is due to Apple producing their OSX to run on proprietary hardware making it difficult for all of us to customize it to run on our machines, rather than their's. Fairly soon Apple will lose their suit over the operating system and it will become more like Windows OS, which means that Apple will HAVE to mirror Microsoft when issuing future operating systems. That day isn't far away. In the meantime, I will be satisfied running XP Pro and Kalyway.

I guess this means we'll see a lot of new dvd releases soon?

Haven't tried it yet, but it looks nice.. keep up the good work pcwiz!

if it works as it should - it means that each and everyone of us will be able to create his own "perfect" dvd...for now i`ll call it breakthrough in osx86 world

going to make my own dvd today - let`s see if it works.

I'm still fiddling with it to try to make a "perfect" install DVD for myself, but, like so many times in the past, I'm coming up short on this goal. (woah, even with a GUI program to do it?) Yes.

I am wondering what kind of "Patch" should be applied for the AMD system... I've looked at the other AMD distros out there and have seen many variations to the LeoPatch or LeoAMD pkg that would enable this to work.

I am also wondering if applying the AMD Patcher to some of these pkg files would allow for better installation to the AMD system world?

Any hints?

....

For now I'll probably just stick with my Leo4All and LawlessPPC's variants.

would someone explain to me how i would go about turning my kexts into packages so i can put them into my install disk?

Packagemaker is actually in the download, Look in the Tools Folder.
This is from version 1 upwards.
Current Version is 1.5 and a HUGE improvement on the ALPHA version.
