Your opinion about Apple

Hey guys!

I wanted to ask the normal people about Apple. What do you think of their product palette, costs, support and so on. The guys in here which are owning a real Apple are totally pleased of them, but the most people in here don't have a real Mac. Why is this so?

I personally love my mac. I also loved my HackMac. When I was a young child, I loved my family's Windows 95 PC (to play Hover). I also know people who love to run Linux on their notebooks. Others love Windows on their desktop PC's. [...] Some prefer OSx86, yet others prefer 'real' macs.

Whatever you use or love, please enjoy yourself. Don't impose your preferences on other members.

Ps. Yes, I admire Apple's products. I enjoy using their operating system, computer and mobile device every single day.

Objectively?

- limited range of products (but can be a good business model)
- only products in the high-end price range
- 1yr warranty SUCKS, and their 3yr warranty upgrade is a scam
- they completely ignore EU laws re warranty
- they are elitist, they think they know what the customer wants without talking or listening to them
- high build quality
- certain well thought out solutions

I only bought my MBP because I had an unexpected amount of disposable money (bonus from work, and no, I don't work in banking ).

Do I like what I got for my money? Yes, a lot.

Would I have spend that much money on a computer if it had to come from regular income? No way in hell. (note I say "a", I can't justify spending that much money of regular income for a computer, regardless of brand, if I can build my own for a fraction of that, that will do just fine for what I use it for)

EDIT: I guess the point is they are worth their money in my opinion, but they would normally be outside of what I need in/from a computer.

Since i met Apple product, two or three years ago, felt in love. Maybe they are elitist, maybe the think the know what user need, their products are really expensive, but man, their products are great.
MacOSX, as an operating system is what i need as a developer, Great visual performance and ease to use, and unix behind, there's no way i would ask for more. Before MacOSX became my main OS i used linux (which i still use a LOT), and i always had Compiz running on it to get visual efects and cute desktop crap, then i discover MacOSX, there's no need for compiz, This come in the same package.

Mobile device: music player, i knew a lot of them, but one which fits my needs is the ipod.
Anyway, this my opinion, not forcing anywant, just fit my needs.

The other issue, is too expensive, so i bought a hack......

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual E2140 1.6 GHz. Graphics: Intel(R) 82945G (128 MB). Board: Asus P5GC-TVM/S Chipset: Intel Lakeport-G i945GC. HDD: 232 Gb S-ATA Samsung
Version 10.6.2 32bit. Kernel: Vanilla. Audio: VoodooHDA 0.2.2 with prefpane. Video: Stock GMA. PS2 fix: VoodooPS2
USB 2 not working

Acer Aspire 4530-6823
CPU: AMD Athlon™ X2 QL-62 2.0GHz. Graphics: Integrated GeForce® 9100M G. Chipset: nForce® MCP77MH.

Well I agree with 98% said above, but the main thing is OS X. Apple means choice.
Linux isn't really a substitute for Windows, OS X definatly is and even more.

Can anyone now imagine how crapy it would be not using OS X and having to use only Windows?

Hmm, my bet would be the price. I think that's the main reason. Apple products are very expensive - unfortunately not everyone can afford it. ( and are not always worth the price...Apple please fix the Might Mouse's Scrollball!! )

Im using Windows 7 - and believe me it's not so bad as you may think

I don't like Mac's, I love them... but too pricey for me though. Been saving now to buy one. Since the switch to OSX mid of '09, I never use Windows that often. I have Win 7 installed on another machine, "the girl" is using it. I think this OS is almost perfect for me.
