Same problem for me if I set the Mac partition as the boot partition. So I reverted back to my XP partition (i.e. I boot OSX from my XP partition)

Never install OSX Delta or Combo updates directly !
I've tried many solutions found on the web, but none worked for me, I can't update my OSX to 10.5.5 or 10.5.5
