Nothing will install? (system)

Hello all,

I had an AMD system and swapped a friend for an Intel system (yes I want OS X to run that bad). I expected after I got the Intel system for things to get MUCH easier. I never could get anything to work with the AMD.

Ok, now the problem. I have tried many versions of OS X on this system, Kalyway gets me closest to something but eventually panics with something to do with the CPU. It says something about trying this but expected something else and panics. -v -x -f has gotten me the farthest with Kalyway but still get panic.

iPC (and many others), no matter what option I use, just rebbots the system before I can catch anything (really fast).

I kind of took it up the tail with this system to have an Intel. I sure hope someone can help with this. This is the first proprietary system I have had in ages.

Specs:

HP a6319fh
Intel E2180
4 gigs of ram (pulled from system I traded)
500 gig drive sata2 (also pulled)
DVD/CD burner sata
It has a Asus motherboard

System I traded:

AMD 5400+ Black
ECS 780GM-A motherboard
DVD burner
Case

Thats all he got! LOL he got to keep his ram and PSU from this system.

I went into the very limited BIOS on this system and there are not many settings. Power management (speedstep?) seems to stay on at all times with no option to change.

Someone please tell me there is hope?.

*sigh* With some kexts and some crossed fingers the older system would have been easier to get working than any proprietary system IMO. But then again I am biased with my 780G.
A Pentium Dual Core eh? Try booting in -legacy for the time being and get a copy of the Voodoo kernel. Hopefully this will help you.
Also, keep an eye on that mixed RAM, as there may be an incompatibility there. Best bet is to verify this with a couple of Memtest runs.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

Getting rid of the old system was not that big of a deal, this thing runs great other then the problems with OS X.

I found a BIOS update that someone modded for this mobo. Talk about sweating bullets, it took forever to flash and had my whole system locked up, but it did finish (thought I was gonna end up with a 25 pound paper weight lol).

Andyways, the BIOS update seemed to fix a lot of the problems, now I can get OS X to install. After the install it crashes b/c of my unboard GFX.

So now with the new problem. I have some video cards I can choose from here (as you will see I am an ATI fan lol). What would be the best to use?

ATI X850XT PCIE
ATI 3400HD PCIE
ATI Rad 7000 PCI
ATI Rad X1300 PCI
ATI Rad 9250 PCI

The PCI cards up there are from other machines I could easily pull.

Any idea what may be the best to use? I know NVidias are supposed to be better for this adventure but years ago I bought 2 FX5500s and they failed after a short time and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Also if any of the PCI cards would work, this mobo has an unboard RTL8168 that OS X don't seem to pick up so right now I have a 3com 905c sitting in the only PCI slot in this machine lol.

Thanks for the help!

Woot got it to run!!!

Got sound, majicjack works, net works, usb and all! What more can I ask for???

Well, maybe something other then 1024x768 and firefox seems to act strange (double clicks to do stuff) Safari runs fine though. I really can't imagine a Mac being much faster, this thing runs great!

How can I make the resolution better? Something like my monitors native res (1680x1050)?

Would one of the video cards from above work?

Thanks for the help!

Your most probably not running the cards with the most up to date kexts or something, on my installation my graphics are stuck in the same resolution even with the corret kexts, but as soon as I use gfx strings, everything is up and running!!!! Try dowloading and running osx86tools and use their built in gfx editor to add your cards strings (not sure if any of your cards are supported, would check but I messed up my installation lol, so reinstalling now)

I too am having difficulty getting started.

I have a MSI MS-6540 MB (SiS chipset), celeron 330 2.66ghz, radeon x800, dual drives (WDC 60gb & WDC 320gb)

I erased and formated the 320gb as fat 32, unhooked the primary winxp pro drive resetting the jumper to master.

I've downloaded and burned Ideneb and Kalyway 10.5.2 intel -twice- on my mac using disk utility and toast both failed to mount on restart.

Made sure the bios is set to boot dvd/cd first.

Still no joy.

I have read that others have succesfully installed with a celeron CPU, I checked to insure that the CPU was sse2/3 capable.

What am I doing wrong?
