The versions do need to match. I highly recommend the Voodoo Kernel but I understand the hesitation as you seem to have your system close to 100%.

You can read the following post by lioNEXT and his fix, both links available at the bottom of the post. Remember to read the post thoroughly and when you run the installer you want to make sure you hit "Customize" and are only installing 9.2.0 System.kext.

If I were you I would backup your existing system.kext to your desktop or somewhere safe so that If you have any issues you can boot in Single User Mode using -s and replace it with the old one.

Also let us know what hardware you are using and place it in your signature.

Once you get this problem fixed I would create a backup of your install so that you can restore it if you have any future problems. Once you do this Id really look into the Voodoo Kernel.
