I dont know about the best but I went for something cheap that works and got a PCI-E 8400 GS 256MB from PC World for £30 and enabled it with EFI string, works a treat.

a new video card, so I got a GTS 250, it also works with GraphicsEnabler Stick with Nvidia, and cards with two DVI ports, also avoid "OC editions" factory overclocked and any other odd configurations |

I think the Radeon HD 4870 is the technically best you can currently get for easy use with OSx86.
As it's option for current MacPro it's device IDs are already part of the system, so it works just with graphics enabler or injector kext. AMD Phenom II X4 955 - ASRock AM3A770DE - 8GB DDR3-1333 - Radeon HD 5570 1GB passiv - BCM4318 802.11b/g - Snow Leopard Retail
+++ AMD Phenom X3 8450 - ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA (BIOS L2.39) - 4GB DDR2-800 - Radeon HD 4650 512MB - Snow Leopard Retail (retired) / OpenBSD |
