Sorrz but I don't know if it will work on your card too. Just give it a try ;)

@arb: The Natit kext will most likely work out for you, I don't know about the CPU, I remember in leopard we had to use a special kernel to enable the dual core as it would create a funny effect, I don't know if this has been corrected in SL.

If you look around you might find a Broadcom kext compatible with your card, at least in 32bits mode, I was able to get my D620 working very well in Leopard, now I am using a D630 so I don't the current status.

Hope you can make it work. Please post your results!

I downloaded the boot disk from another site and could install SL successfully.
Everything except Wake from Sleep seems to be working. I wonder if the kext pack here can fix Wake from Sleep issue. I am pretty new to Mac, so I don't know what is the problem, the power management or video card, etc. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.

Hey arb,

Where you download your boot disk ? link ?

I search a 123Boot CD for my D630...

Thanks !!

Hi,

I downloaded D620SLV1.iso from
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...owtopic=178411
There is a boot file for 10.5.6, but SL seems to be better.

telecaster 10-23-2009 01:12 AM

This installer is the best! I did a fresh install last night and after running the installer I am the closest I've been to fully functional. If I could just get sleep to work I'd be satisfied. I have a 630 with x3100 graphics, 4 gigs of ram and two internal wifi cards. (I bought a broadcom off Ebay a long time ago as the 3945 seemed hopeless) I think the BIOS level is A14. When I select sleep the screen goes black and everything shuts down briefly and then it powers back up. You hear the fan and the optical drive comes to life but the screen stays black and nothing will wake it up. I discovered that if you select "onboard video" as the primary video in the BIOS settings for docking behavior it effects sleep in that the screen does wake up--it's just that it won't stay asleep. Maybe someone who has sleep working could post their BIOS settings and any other tips that make it work. I'll keep trying......

Anybody have the perfect boot 132 disk for D630?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

thanks to slic and little toying around I have a nice running D630 with Snow Leopard. (I figured that my 1440x900 just needs Natit.kext with old AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext, I wish I could find the sources for this kernel extensions to build a 64bit version. I found some newer Natit.kext sources which doesn't include the intel graphics anymore. The kernel extension is not very complicated...)

But now my main issue:

Sleep works fine after a fresh startup. But after some time of usage it just doesn't work anymore. The laptop starts up immediatly after going to sleep. Does somebody have the same issue or even better a solution/suggestion?

I think it has something to do with heat/fan activity. Maybe the bios somehow prevents the laptop from going to sleep (it also has control over the fan speed). Also sleep only works only after a new start when the laptop was inactive for a while, again most likely because of a cooler system?

There is a "ThermalZone" Scope in the dsdt.dsl. Could this be a way to modify the behaviour?

And by the way: I used hibernate as a work around in leopard for a while. But with SL the bootloader(netkas, chameleon) always says the hibernate image file is corrupted. Any solution for this issue?

Sleep, Restart, Shutdown not working ...

Hello,

I have a D630 with an NVidia graphic card
When i install SL the first time, shutdown, restart and sleep work
After i apply the driver pack, sleep, restart and shutdown won't trigger the hardware to stop
I just have a blank (black) screen :'(

I have to push the power button few seconds to shutdown the system completely

I was wondering if someone had this issue and found something, like a kext preventing the system shutdown/restart/sleep ...

Any clue will be welcome !! :)

Thx

Anyone Else get this when they run ps -ef in terminal? Is there a fix for this? I know it's to do with the mouse.. I dont think making a new User Daemon will fix this.. After using the system for about an hour it will no longer let me open applications, giving me the error "unknown error -10810" Maybe 64bit mouse drivers/Touchpad drivers would fix?

Hi blacklabelsktr2,
I have this issue too ! Its because of the ffscrolldaemon, its getting started many many times so the system gets out of memory. If I type "killall -9 ffscrolldaemon" in the terminal I can use the system again....

Does anybody knows how to fix this ?

As picture shown here: http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/6...91013at170.png
I'm beginning to wonder if unchecking "Keep it running at all times" would be a fix, or if that would cause your keyboard and mouse stop functioning all together. I'm too afraid to try things like this out. Somewhere on google I thought I saw a page in reference to the -10810 error, where someone came up with a solution to limit the process to only running 5 active processes (I forget where I saw this.) But this could also be a solution.
Maybe another way could be to rewrite FFScroll completely, but I won't think that would solve the issue really. If interested in trying though see here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...howtopic=88811

Like I said, I haven't actually tried any of them out. Just trying to research to find best solution.

works for me. The problem with the original one is the <key>KeepAlive</key> key. Its obvious that the daemon only has to be started once at startup. Just modify the path to the executable if you've installed it somewhere different.

Working now

After much difficulty this kext pack is now mostly working for me (only the trackpad fails). One of the big issues was that the video drivers for GMAX3100 did not work...perhaps they are only good for WXGA and not WXGA+ like I have. In any case, a generous soul provided working drivers in this post:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...post&p=1299847

Another key to success was that (using Chameleon 2 RC3) having extensions in /Extra behaved differently from having them in /System/Library/Extensions. I moved everything to /S/L/E/.

Also note that, while I'm not sure of the necessity of having done so, I booted in Linux, dumped and decompiled the DSDT, edited in the "usual" ways, and recompiled it. I basically followed what you see in the link below:

http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=515

xover 11-02-2009 08:12 PM

I forgot to say also that, when I copied the SL install disk over to a USB nerdstick, the D630 refused to boot from it. It was therefore necessary to first install Snow Leopard on the main hard disk using a USB enclosure and nearby Mac Mini (which I also used for terminal work). Then I could transfer the drive over to the D630 for further work.

Note also that when I subsequently used Migration Assistant to transfer from the old Leopard hackintosh setup, it hosed the SL installation. I restored from backup and avoided making that mistake a second time.

PLEASE TEST YOUR SOFTWARE BEFORE CLAIMING IT WORKS PROPERLY FOR THE DELL D620/D630 and D820 or whatever. WE ALL KNOW YOUR DSDT IS NO GOOD FOR THE D630 and my D620!!!! YOUR PS2 SCROLL DRIVERS HAVE ISSUES WITH THE XML CONFIG, SINCE YOU GUYS WERE TOO STONED TO ACTUALLY DO SOME TESTING. DO YOU THINK ITS COOL TO POST FIRST ABOUT SOMETHING AND CLAIM U GOT IT WORKING? EVEN THOUGH YOU DIDN'T?

P.S. HERE IS A KEXT PACK I TESTED THAT WORKS FOR THE D620
You should edit the smbios.plist according to ur ram speed.

PLACE EXTENSIONS in /Extra/Extensions
PLACE KEXTS in /System/Library/Extensions

CHEERS NEWBS!
OH BTW, SL 10.6.0 doesn't like having kexts in /S/L/E
So I still havn't gotten Graphics working on my Quadro 110m

Btw this dell d620 with quadro 110m works fine with Kalyway 10.5.2
vanilla kernel / Nvidia inject Go driver

s0nykus 11-07-2009 06:13 PM

Hey slic!

First things first, thanks for the great work of putting all this stuff together.

People *should* understand that there are often slight differences between laptops even under the same model name. There might be several different revisions, bringing on subtle differences between hardware platforms. Thus, not everything that works for one of us perfectly, will also work for the other. Dsdt files may even differ from one bios version to the other, amount of ram, etc., on the same platform, not to mention subtle revision changes and different production lots on various components, made by the manufacturer. Therefore, getting everything right is a long and often frustrating process, and it requires a lot of patience.

And you're always much better off extracting, editing, and recompiling *your own* dsdt file, instead of randomly trying out stuff that comes from others, not necessailly / completely matching your system's hardware specs.

I'm still in the pre-install phase, putting together everything I need for my first try. I have a D830 with Nvidia Quadro NVS140M, and hopefully, it will soon run SL if I'm lucky. The final target I have on my mind will be a triple boot SL / Win7 / Ubuntu installation, but let's just take it one step at the time. ;)

The problem I've noticed in your first post is that you have the same link posted under "Download NVIDIA installer here" and "NVIDIA Sources", they both go the installer package. I would really like to have the nVidia source package instead, as I'm trying to install Chameleon to a small 200MB EFI partition, with kekxts and everything, and then vanilla SL to a different partition.

I've found this install method posted by r0m30 on the Chameleon / VodooLabs forums, and I'd like to give it a shot.
http://forum.voodooprojects.org/inde...pic,911.0.html

I'll keep you guys posted with the results as they show up ;)

Hey mate, I'm on that thread as well... and this is the place I found the working kext files for my D620.

While following this process, if you happen to find the hpet.kext that was mentioned there, please do let me know! I think I'm soooo close to getting this working :)

Hey mate, good to see you here as well ;)

I've patched, fixed and recompiled my very own DSDT with the koalala's DSDT Patcher GUI for windows, found on:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...owtopic=142434

I've applied the fixes for HPET, RTC, Aliases, Local0 and MUTE using the patcher. Then I've manually fixed the "1 Errors, 9 Warnings, 7 Remarks" that I was getting with iasl.

It went easier than I've thought, and Google was my best friend. It helped me fix all but one remark, one that people say it can be safely overlooked. On a sidenote, I've had exactly the same results with iasl under linux, so I assume this windows version works quite identically.

Now, with a patched, cleaned and recompiled dsdt file, hopefully I won't even need a hpet kext anymore. Nor I will need the Disabler, and other dirty hacks.

msingh says that the nVidia Quadro NVS 140M on the D830 may (miraculously) work out of the box on a vanilla install.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...owtopic=187356

I still have to test that one, and confirm if it's true. Maybe I'm lucky and my graphics card was natively used in some macbook variant. Otherwise, I'll have to throw in the nVidia files as well, and cook them with the rest.

I think I'll give it a shot today, and come back with more info as soon as I'll get all this stuff up and running.

Cheers, and good luck!

10.6.2 Update Issues

Hi,
I tried the 10.6.2 Update through Apple Update. Deleted and replaced SleepEnabler.kext before rebooting. Seemed to update fine. However, when rebooting, it seems as though USB and Audio (and even bluetooth) no longer work. I applied the original kexts.. but no success with getting them working again. Anyone else experience this or know the fix?

Thanks

blacklabelsktr2 11-13-2009 12:09 AM

How I fixed my problem after the 10.6.2 update..this is odd, but it worked for me..
First I made a copy of my screwd up SL install to a USB. Then:
1. Went to:
http://osx86sv.wordpress.com/2009/10...de-d630c-d630/
and downloaded Bootloader2. Installed the included Charmeleon 1 Installer to the USB drive, Copied included Boot to USB Drive /Volumes Folder.
2. Re-installed original Audio kexts from original D630 Package in this post (the original one, before the installer) Followed Included Directions on adding the VoodoHDA Helper and preferences.
The USB copy now has bluetooth working, audio, and USB again!!! I'm going to either do the same to my main drive or just clone it over.

Update: As mentioned in step 1.. The boot file included with that fixed almost all my issues.. It runs even better than before.. USB and Bluetooth work everytime now.. whereas before they would stop working every once in a while.

If you restart and have issues with your graphics resolution.. I just reinstalled the D630 installer package (uncheck option for reinstalling chameleon and then I used HelperKext to add SleepEnabler.kext and Natit.kext back in (to overwrite the existing bad ones). Also I dont need the Ethernet so I deleted that.

Radchs2, I think I found a fix for this.. See my last post. Replacing the Boot file fixed it for me. (Doesnt seem to run Chameleon RC2) but atleast usb and bluetooth no longer die every so often.

Make sure you replace the boot file using terminal: (2 lines)
sudo -s
cp /Volumes/NAME OF DRIVE/LOCATION OF BOOT YOU DOWNLOADED/Boot /Volumes/NAME OF DRIVE

I have D630 with intel video. I installed 10.6 and the kext pack.

Not sure if this would work (it should work in 32bit mode for sure), but try fixing the sound this way. Download one of the original packs:
Old X3100 pack: http://www.box.net/shared/5dxqfrx5oz <-this one for you
Old NVIDIA pack: http://www.box.net/shared/xhi6evrq1s

1. You should see a VoodooHDA.kext. Drag it into Kext Helper b7 (download it if you dont have it)
2. Open folder called VoodooHDAHelper, drag the Voodoo HDA Helper program into your Utilities
3. Copy the folder VoodooHDA to Your_OS_X_disk/Library/
4. Add application Voodoo HDA Helper to list of login items in
System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items
5. Double click and install VoodooHDA.prefPane.

This is how I fixed my sound multiple times, works for me in 32 bit, I haven't tried 64 yet. Let me know if it works.

You Probably just need to initialize the connection. See instructions here for help:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...en/mh1152.html

The first time I set mine up it did the same thing. After spending about a minute in the Network Connections Screen, it initialized and started actually loading websites.

You can use my guide for Dell D830 SL install. All vanilla, except for one kext. See my sig.

just a fyi. here is the guide I used. well all I used was the bootDisk ISO and installed from DVD directly fresh. The guide has both leopard and snow. u are looking for the file. D620SLv1.ISO
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...owtopic=178411

All you need to do to boot the Retail Snow leopard dvd is boot off the boot disk when u get the selections remove the disk and insert the retail dvd and press F5 until it refreashes and then select the dvd. and install.

Hope this helps. It won't get everything working. sound should work but not alot of other stuff. but the guide will have suggestions on how to get other drivers working.

hi all, I broke the lcd for my D630.
Why I was so long inactive.
Now I have an external monitor and I'm trying to install SNOW. If you succeed in everything and I will be back to OSX.
And because it has several new kexts, then the whole pack update!

r62494 11-23-2009 07:06 PM

Almost...

First, thanks for this installer. I have managed to get everything working on my Inspiron 1720 except the x3100 graphics. Been working on this for over a month. Am on 10.6.2 and after installing your pack, upon starting up, either in 64 or 32 the screen is blue than gets deeper in color (purplish) and thats as far as it goes. However, when I start in safe mode, i have full 1400x900 resolution and system profiler shows the kexts as loaded. Any idea why I can't boot in normal mode, 64 or 32? Used my own dsdt, maybe something in there is causing it? Kinda new to this, any help appreciated. Thanks.

OKAY, im back on OS X.
But i have biiiiig problem.
I can't get work MIRROR SCREEN MODE (---- ---- ---- :X) on my External monitor.
And that's bullshit, because I have a broken lcd.
Is here anyone who get this working?

Hi, you have probably tried it, but I am running my D630 with GraphicsEnabler from Chameleon - and it works with external display. But I have nvidia and not sure, if this can be a solution for x3100...

BTW - thanks a lot for your kext pack! I am testing it on D630 since yesterday and most of the features works perfectly... :)

Are you using a retail distro or another type for SL

crashnburn 11-27-2009 01:14 PM

Welcome back, slic!
Sorry to hear about the bad news of the broken LCD.

My install worked fine using the metod I've linked before. I've had no Mac at hand, only a DVD, some USB sticks, a WinXP box, and the laptop itself. Still, I've managed to put things together, install Snow, and update it to 10.6.2. Then I've made my laptop triple boot, intalling Ubuntu and Win7 as well. With a little knowledge and a lot of reading, it is perfectly possible.

My laptop now looks as my signature states:

hi, hi, hi
Unfortunately, I bring bad news.
I tested X methods to get working mirror screen mode on X3100
but neither did not work. (I tested also in 10.5.x)

:(

I am using original SL 10.6 Retail DVD. Because not all of this pack was stable on my D630, I have made my own patched DSDT.aml and kext pack (assembled from several Snow Leopard D620/630/830 HOWTOs and proven sources - netkas.org, etc...). What is important - this installation can be upgraded via Apple Software Update to the latest version 10.6.2 :)

I will post it here after another day or two of testing - just to be sure... ;)

sp-am 12-02-2009 12:58 PM

sobik D630 DSDT ?

Any news ? I'm very interested in your DSDT.aml
my DSDT patch (AGP section deleted )
- going into sleep seems ok, but after wake up it has a black screen (LCD)
- external monitor is ok basically
- switching between internal LCD and external monitor (Fn + F8, forth and back) --> scrambled screen

any help ist welcome

Hi, I have x3100, too and my mirror screen working perfect. But I have used your DSDT.aml from your first dell pack, because with new dsdt.aml have problem with USB ports..

ynoc 12-08-2009 05:09 PM

Usb

it seems that the problem only exists for me after:
  • update to 10.6.2
  • update of fakesmc to 2.5
  • update to netkas' Sleepenabler.kext for 10.6.2
not sure which one causes the problem but it is a bit annoying.
