Just joined the forum, hello :)

I've got 10.6.7 rocking in a VM and I thought I'd just bump the thread for ol' lion.

So any progress to report getting it onto AMD?

Cheers :D

Would bulldozer work with a similar patch? seeing as it has all the same instruction sets implemented as the intel chips.
It would be really interesting if andy´s lion kernel will work with bulldozer or bobcat.
If it´s working we can say for sure that the older AMD´s will never work cause missing SSSE3 instructions.....

So have anybody tried it with them????

@AnV
Is there a way to write a SSSE3 Emulator?

Unrealized 02-15-2012 10:13 PM

There are ways to emulate cpu extensions, so yes, it could be possible.

Personally I'm a bit puzzled about the fact I cant run osx86 at the moment because snow leo doesnt support the gtx 550 ti. :(

no1youknowz 02-17-2012 05:23 PM

Is there any more news on this?

Seems things have gone silent on this issue now. :'(

alaskan 02-19-2012 01:36 AM

I am interested also.

scififan68 03-07-2012 05:45 PM

Its just easier to upgrade to Intel, like I have recently and I just love it! Of course my AMD wasn't working correctly for me, so I upgraded. Also Snow Leopard is fine to run at this time, Lion is just like SL with some ios features, but I had to upgrade because Lion supports my new hardware much better than Snow Leopard.

Godofwar 03-08-2012 01:50 AM

Snow Leopards fine for time being. I'll stick with Amd because they're cheaper and just as good.

Agreed. Spending extra $$ just to get Lion or MLion doesn't make sense......

I have a feeling kernel for AMD for Lion might come out....

I got Xcode 4.2 on SL 10.6.8 so I stop the Lion pursuit on my AMD :P

Can you post links or instructions on how to do that?

m4f1050 03-15-2012 01:20 PM

Xcode 4.2 for SL

Step 1:

Xcode 4.2 for SL
Code:

http://adcdownload.apple.com/Developer_Tools/xcode_4.2_for_snow_leopard/xcode_4.2_for_snow_leopard.dmg
Step 2:

Then to upgrade iOS 5.1 download this and install image but DO NOT install it:
Code:

http://adcdownload.apple.com/Developer_Tools/xcode_4.3.1_for_lion/xcode_4.3.1_for_lion.dmg
Then do these steps in terminal (if root, remove leading sudo):
Code:

sudo cp -R /Volumes/Xcode/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS5.1.sdk /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/
sudo cp -R /Volumes/Xcode/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator5.1.sdk /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/
sudo cp -R /Volumes/Xcode/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/5.1\ \(9B176\) /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/
sudo rm -f /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/Latest
cd /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/
sudo ln -s ./5.1\ \(9B176\) ./Latest

The problem for some people is that they have newer graphics card than the ones Snow Leopard supports. Which sucks for me. ;)

Should have went for an older graphics card, hell my old computer that I gave to my brother which is like an Amd athlon x2 3.0ghz with a 8800gts 320mb card with 2 gigs of ram is still maxing out games on his resolution like 1600x something(I'm not including physx tho, his graphics card can't handle physx for the most part especially in Batman Arkham Asylum and Mafia II) I forget but its a littler less then 1080 and above 720 on his monitor. And athlon x2 and gts 320mb card are old aren't they? My current rig which I'm running Windows 7 and Snow Leopard on is Amd Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz with a gtx 470 1280mb card.

Well I was running a HD5570 and it died, so :) I went and replaced it with a GTX 550 Ti. If I would had got my hands on a 9500GT I would have been happy enough.

Next up is a Intel CPU as I'm getting gray hair with Windows, lol :-/

Yeah, I come to the conclusion that we are gonna need amd kernel for lion or mountain lion sooner or later just for the fact that snow leopard will be dated soon enough. We all know Apple are douche-bags and will force an update on Apple users if they want to use newer software like they usually do with their con-artist ways. Tho, I don't really even use many Apple software to begin with. I usually use my mac side just to browse the internet because on my windows side my browser always sticks and freezes that is the real reason I use hackintosh snow leopard to begin with.

Ninja_Harbinger 03-26-2012 05:45 AM

I really hope the devs crack this one because I have a Radeon 6970 which is only supported with Lion.

Hey dude!

Great work. :)

Bad thing is that a lot of apps on Lion are no more 32-Bit supported, including Finder - like it can be seen on your screenshot.

If some function could be added, that does like -force64 in prior Legacy/Voodoo Kernel, you would have made it.

Otherwise:
There is the possibility to use 32-Bit Finder from Dev-Build 11A380 on GM / 11A511
This way I have working 10.7.0 on non-64-Bit CPU Atom N270 - any later Build does no longer work with this method. :-|
If we could get a fully working 32-Bit Lion on AMD via this way, this would not be as great, but still pretty cool...

Anyhow: We are looking forward to you keeping us posted!! ;)

What if you patch the dyld and the libsystem.b???

Patching these on Snow Leopard is for 32-Bit Apps not to crash, when 64-Bit is enabled.

Problem is that his Kernel has not enabled 64-Bit mode at all (it is booting pure 32-Bit legacy mode)
In Lion there is no more 32-Bit code in a lot of Apps like Finder, Launchpad etc

Absolutely no way to make them work unless 64-Bit support is enabled, like when you were using -force64 flag at Snow Leopard Kernel Patch.

Please try it is mach_kernel_lion_amd_for_10_7_3_fam-15-16_model-6 !
No work on intel !
You should write in boot flag "-legacy" - it is 32 bit ! :)

says NAWCOM>http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=929
"I’ve actually gotten the kernel sorta-working on my AMD machine myself. The issue is that it would stall after detecting the root device, and I think it has to do with all this new pal reference stuff (platform abstraction layer) that is in the RTC code. It would stall while trying to launch the first userspace thread, at least that’s what I was able to figure out by booting it in VMware and doing a remote debug on it. This was done a while ago.
If the person can share info on how he got it working (especially the pal rtc stuff) then I could help out.
The reason I haven’t been working on it is my AMD machine is out of service, though I can get my hands on another one.
My brilliant bud meklort wants to move all the CPU detection part of the kernel to chameleon, which makes things much easier.
That’s where I am now with it."

you should get to gather with nawcom for to collaborate.

Well... how about creating a Lion setup partition & trying to boot it?! :p

At least I did so - or let's say I tried to do so...

I am currently stopped by a Kernel Panic:

http://h11.abload.de/img/sam_1273w9k9a.jpg

In case of not using "-legacy" flag, I am getting as far as in case of panic, just that the panic isn't displayed (freeze after boot disk initialisation - the same problem like nawcom experienced with kernel made by himself)

I had to use IOPCIFamily.kext from 10.6.7 in order to get past "PCI Configuration beginn"

...

I will gonna try a different hardware setup later, but need to get some sleep first... :D

WOW... THANKS MATE...

Your kernel can really work with the LION 10.7.2 on my AMD Phenom II X4 965
(32 bits mode of course)

http://s16.postimage.org/bg9mq8p1h/amd_2.gif

The 64-bits finder can't be opened
---> maybe someday the kernel can be patched so it can run with -force64 flag

http://s14.postimage.org/kw6yjo2pd/amd_4.gif

The 32-bits SAFARI can run flawlessly

http://s18.postimage.org/ghg3ouymx/amd_3.gif

THANKS FOR YOUR HARD WORK !!!

Very nice do u mind sharing the diff you compiled with so nawcom and AnV can help u improve the one u made ?

My Method
Cloned my Intel Box 10.7.3 with CCC replaced mach_kernel-> Installed Chameleon 1837 on drive with FakeSMC ,NullPower...,EvoReboot,FakeSMC Thermal PLugins, in S/L/E

Bootflags -v -legacy npci=0x2000 maxmem=4096

First Boot Success

Confirmed Working on SysSpecs in my Signature No Finder yet (offcourse) Full Support on 5770,Lan ,etc

wastez 03-30-2012 10:48 AM

Thanks for your hard work, it really great that somebody got it working.

It would be absolutely great if the 64 bit Userland could be implemented.

R:A:W:X86 03-30-2012 12:38 PM

OK. I can now confirm it working, too. :)
Previous Kernel Panic must have been some mistake when creating install media, so to simplify things, I used iAtkos L1 10.7.1 with just Basic System install this time...

http://www.abload.de/thumb/screensho...3-30aqyjmy.png

When not using -legacy flag, I still encounter the same problem, that has been described by nawcom on his blog for his Kernel attempts...

It freezes after drive initalisation...

We need to find some way to make it boot past this.

nawcom says something about changes in RTC driver, so maybe we can try to figure out some old kext versions or something, that may gonna make it work...

can you share how did you solved this problem ;)

Good work bronzovka! I installed Lion on my AMD server, with an AMD Athlon II X3 445 @ 3.1GHz cpu, most things seemed to work, but not everything and I couldn't get Finder to work, it said it couldn't find a symbol in the crash log.

We all know that. It is only 32bit right now, and that is why. Once Nawcom and AnV and bronzovka updates it, we should be able to run full lion. :D

PookyMacMan 03-30-2012 07:24 PM

Source?

I'm willing to help with some extra patching, etc...can bronzovka please post source code? (I believe that's what the APSL licensing requires anyway).

larrougos 03-30-2012 09:06 PM

Spread the core of the lion version 10.7.3 for AMD family at 15 - 16, model 6!
Not all AMD is working! On the intel will not work!
Do not forget to collect the flag-legacy - a 32-bit)
Who supports AMD ssse3, you will not need to type the flag - it will be 64-bit)

Someone can prove this?

ASrock has published a Beta BIOS that would add AM3+ CPU support for my AM3 mainboard... :D
If selling my Phenom afterwards, I could effort to purchase the FX-4100... - But ofcourse I would only want to put money into this, in case it will work...
