installer not working, i'm pretty sure i followed the instructions carefully.

when i boot using my USB:
Boot0: GPT
Boot0: testing
Boot0: testing
Boot0: done.J

then nothing will happen.

when i tried to boot from my snow bootloader it only restart after loading from verbose/single/force.

pippox0 07-22-2011 10:06 AM

Something is gone wrong in making bootable USb ....

The steps i follow exactly are
Use PC-EFI 10.6 to initialize boot flag on USB
Use Chameleon to create Bootable menu on USB
Use Extra_Lion package to create extra folder on USB ...

Verify that mach_kernel file is in / root folder of USB and /Extra folder of USB
Verify that boot file is in / folder

Give me a report if you resolve ...

sargatanas 07-22-2011 12:13 PM

i already re-install the PC-EFI 10.6, Chameleon, Extra_Lion to my usb disk but still the same problem.

TechXero 07-22-2011 12:40 PM

Hi,
Ok, try this: use a newer version of Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947
download on http://www.kexts.com
Tthis should resolve your error :
Boot0: GPT
Boot0: testing
Boot0: testing
Boot0: done.J

hey man, finally installation is now working, but again got this stuck on this after installing and required to restart:

i also installed the extra_lion and chameleon on my lionHD using Snow, but still hangs.

EDIT:

Tried adding following kernel flag : npci=0x2000

give me this:
WARNING - ACPI_SMC_CtrlLoop::initCPUCtrlLoop - no sub-config match for MacBookPro4,1 with 4 p-states, using default stepper instead

any ideas?

I had the same issue as you. Once i read your update I realized that the installer was looking at your smbios.plist. You need to change it from MacBookPro4,1. I have mine set to an iMac. I just copied mine from my original Snow Leopard, and I have booted up to the Lion welcome install screen.

EDIT: Successfully installed Lion! Just had to copy my original SL smbios.plist and com.apple.boot.plist file over to get it to boot properly.

sargatanas 07-23-2011 06:18 AM

i dont have smbios.plist on my snow leopard, i have only com.apple.boot.plist on extra folder,

i already tried changing the smbios.plist to "MacBookPro4,1 and iMac9,1" still not loading.

and also copied my SL com.apple.boot.plist to Lion extra folder it only changes the boot screen.

what seems to be the problem?

EDIT:

FINALLY! got it running!

1st: follow pippox0 tutorial.

2nd: Install Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947 instead of Chameleon 2.0 RC5 -755.pkg on OSX Lion Boot usb.

3rd: When installation is complete, boot your snow leopard
Install Extra_Lion.pkg to Lion HD
Install Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947 to Lion HD
copy your SL com.apple.boot.plist and smbios.plist to your Lion HD /Extra folder
Put fakesmc.kext, nullCPUPowermanagenent.kext on /Extra/Extensions folder of your LionHD

4th: Install Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947 on your Snow Leopard HD to work the dual boot.

Restart.

That's it. :)

Hey Guys :

All I can say is that this guide is but a fraction of what needs to be done, awesome as it might be, there are some more things to do in order to get it working 100%

Like for example if you are on a Laptop, and need Battery to work, get BatteryLion from kexts.com, also I am using Chameleon bootloader rc5 b1200, my keyboard n mousepad on laptop did not work till I got the ps2controller update ...

Enabled QE/CI via osx86Tools and dual Screen support via Lizard ... Audio had to get VOODOHDA for Realtek RC88x ...

Of course it all depends on your build, but best place to get your kexts is kexts.com ;)

Now I am 100% up n running !

Thanks Pippo for startup guide ;)

YouDoMeIDoYou 07-25-2011 01:02 PM

Hi Guys,

I've been running Leopard/Snow Leopard for a few years now without any problems. Installing Lion seems to differ a bit.

Could someone answer a few little questions :)

1: I personally don't like the USB install methods. I always installed Snow Leopard via an USB to IDE/SATA converter and plugged my destination drive to that. Lion always complains there is nothing to install. Do you guys know if I can install Lion from a running Snow Leopard via my converter to another drive?

2: I never used a smbios.plist. My DSDT did everything for me (I always thought so...). Is it recommended using that plist for performance issues? I don't see any necessity. Is a smbios.plist a reason to getting hardware run?

3: Is it necessary installing Extra_Lion.pkg? I manually set up my Extra folder - does that .pkg make anything different?

4: I love vanilla running OSX. Thats because I only had one AD1988b.Fix.kext in my Extra folder. Now everybody is talking about VoodooHDA.kext. With my AD1988b.Fix.kext I can see all audio connections in "about this mac" - but actually there is no audio available. Why can't my DSDT activate my hardware the way it did with Snow Leopard?

5: Network used to be running out of box with Leopard/Snow Leopard. Now I have to use special kexts. One way further from vanilla installation... Any ideas why my hardware isn't supported anymore (something to do wit smbios.plist)?

I hope someone can answer my questions - best regards from Bavaria, Germany :)

pippox0 07-26-2011 12:40 PM

Hi,
some answers to your questions :
1. YES - You can copy DMG/USB to a internal/external partition on HD, place Chameleon and EXTRA_Lion on it and run Lion Installation from it . (it was my first OSX Lion installation attempt )

2. smbios.plist is necessary to bypass OSX Lion installation Check.
After installed Lion, you can delete it ( BTW i don't recommend it )

3. Extra_lion.pkg have all kext minimum necessaries to install Lion. You can experiment if you like to find your Kexts

4. I use VoodooHDA.kext , but it depends on your HW .
DSDT patching don't works for me.. Do as you like ...

5. As above, it depends on your HW.
i use Intel1000e.kext patched for my network card.
BTW you need a Kext that works on 64bit on Lion
look on www.Kexts.com

I hope this will help you ...:)

Cheers

Hi YouDoMeIDoYou or so ...,

if you've got a running SL installation, just follow the following instruction on tonymacx86 (http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/...-107-lion.html) - imho that's by far the fastest and simplest upgrade installation. After having downloaded LION from the AppStore it took me less than an hour to get LION up and run.

The only "post install" was to pursuade my ALC889a soundchip to work. Multibeast didn't help (for whatever reason) so I found the following link: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...owtopic=140941 (look for the section that begins with "For OS X 10.7, or AppleHDA version > 2.0.0
ALC885/889a" and follow the instructions that come with the downloaded file(s).

Everything else worked like my SL did before.

My MB is a GA-EP45 UD3R with NVIDIA GF 9500GT.

Hope that helps. Don't forget to have a working copy of your today's SL installation in case that something goes wrong. Murphy is living everywhere ...

One last hint: it seems that LION requires the "latest" bootloader - so if you are still on an older version of chameleon - switch to chimera (try it first on a copy of your existing SL, before you patch the SL which is to be replaced by LION). If not it will end in an endless bootloop.

Kind Regards
RPT007 from far North of Bavaria

Try to install again Extra Lion.pkg, Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r755-Lion, and PCEFI 10.6 Lion+Snow into your USB Installer.

Also make sure that you have fakesmc.kext and NullCPUPowerManagement.kext inside USB Installler / Extra/Extensions
If theres no Extensions folder just create and paste the two kext

hope it help you out

USB boot

I wasn't able to repair permissions neither on the USB stick or on the LIONOSX.dmg.
I think this is a critical step right? The "Repair permissions" button is always disabled on them. What did I forget?

yasinakgun87 07-29-2011 03:48 PM

Ok,

so once I boot from my usb drive, I'm confronted with a screen showing the usb flash drive, and my leopard OS installation.

I've selected OSX Lion Boot, but I get "cant find mach_kernel"

What could be the problem

Permissions

I used kextwizard to try to fix permissions on the USB stick after doing all steps but it hangs showing that.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21980672/29072011220.jpg
The timeout error appears minutes after "nothing to load" .
Is it because of file permissions or not? :-/

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: After changing everything on the USB stick to root/wheel and chmodding 644 LaunchDaemons/* I was able to boot but the installer shows up these:

Hi,
YES you have to repair permission on USB on /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
use terminal and type

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

Cheers

i also encountered that, but i just ignore that step and proceed. after i finish installing on my HDD i run Kext Utility, OSX86 Tool and check repair permissions. and also u can do that step after installation on your HDD, just run Disk utility and repair permissions in your newly installed lion HDD.

Every time i get an error on boot i just do this steps:

a. Install Extra_Lion.pkg to USB Flash Drive
b. Install Chameleon 2.0 RC5 -755.pkg to USB Flash Drive
c. Install PCEFI 10.6 Lion+Snow.pkg to USB Flash Drive
After installing "a , b, c" on my Flash drive i always create a folder "Extensions" inside /Extra , and i paste (ElliottForceLegacyRTC.kext, fakesmc.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext)

Hope it help. If you do this steps and still stuck just power off your pc and try to boot again.

Yeah, but the problem is that I just can't launch the installer properly. I will redo everything and change permissions like PippoX0 told me to.

EDIT: Well, no success. It keeps telling me to clean the media :(

EDIT: Followed analot's advice and did everything again from the beggining (started a fight with my wife so she's not talking with me so much and I earned some hours of peace to work on this :D), plus the additional steps he told me.

Anyway, I had to fix permissions on the USB stick by hand:
Code:

cd /Volumes/OSX\ Lion
chown -R root:wheel *
chmod 755 /Volumes/OSX\ Lion/System/Library/Launchdaemons
chmod 644 /Volumes/OSX\ Lion/System/Library/Launchdaemons/*

Voila! The installer now works. Updated my SL installation but it reboots right after loading kexts. :(

Erased my SL partition. Updating was a bad idea. A fresh install and booting from the USB stick and selecting my new Lion installation worked fine.

Now I am going to do the post installation procedures.
EDIT: I can only boot from USB. Booting from HD makes Lion "Waiting for DSMOS" for ever. :(

You mean, you want it to boot verbose everytime? I think you can tweak Chameleon to do that. Check if you have it on System Preferences.

simakwm 07-31-2011 03:10 PM

Then I copied /boot file from my USB install stick to / and I was able proceed after 'Waiting for DSMOS' message but from a text mode Chameleon...

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Chameleon didn't work with this /boot file, I used Chimera bootloader from Muiltibeast 3.8.0.

Well, at least I don't need the USB stick anymore. ^_^
Thanks guys.

Just had to copy my original SL smbios.plist and com.apple.boot.plist file over to get it to boot properly.
i'm not using SL as noted above but the 10.5.2 kalyway. so i can't copy my existing boot.plist. BTW the lion installer i download has a prohibition sign (/) over it, i'm guessing since i'm running 10.5.2 so it won't let me run it.

so can i download the boot.plist of a SL and replace it? or can i edit the boot.plist to say MacBookPro4,1?

PLEASE HELP. i've been at this for almost a week =\

suceesss!!

so it works...FYI the installer didn't see my drives at first but i go a patched ioatafamily.kext, and that fix it.

i went through the post install stuff. but chameleon didn't show up under prefferences. and i couldn't boot from HDD. end up getting multibeast, that fix the HDD boot problem.

Using iBoot legacy and DVD burned with Lion it won't start installation. Using -x -v, got error like in attached image. Do I need an updated version of iBoot (or iBoot legacy) ? I used iBoot Legacy to install SL 10.6 retail, now I am on 10.6.8. My specs are here: http://unixexpert.ro/mac-os-x-10-6-7-snow-leopard.html

Hi All,

I tried to follow the steps in this tutorial and on selecting the lion install partition , i am stuck at a white screen with mouse scroll animation . (Image attached)

I am not using an USB, but an internel partition. Also as my laptop (Samsung q430) does not work with 10.6.6 or above, I did all the steps mentioned in the thread from 10.6.0 retail

Please help

gabguig 08-15-2011 10:04 PM

I do not think I would prefer it to detect any interface.
Try starting with the external USB keyboard and mouse.
;)

What we need:

PippoX0

Do I need to use a Hackintosh running Mac Os X to create Lion.dmg or can I use an actual Mac machine? I have a PowerMac running Leopard.
