Red face [AMD] 10.7.2 works but not 10.7.3 or 10.7.4

Hey. I was able to get 10.7.2 to work on my AMD system, but if I update to a newer version I am not able to get it to function with the couple of kernels available. I'm not sure why. Is there a step I'm missing? I have an AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition.

I've tried these 2 kernels. I've had to reinstall Mac OS X twice after trying these.

10.7.4 AMD Kernel - InfiniteMac

I install the combo update manually then replace mach_kernel with either of those and then my system does not boot when I reboot. No kernel panic or anything my computer just resets when I try to boot Lion at that point.

Hey sunfire,

you will need to add your busratio to the org.chameleon.Boot.plist file.

If you are not overclocked you can try typing busratio=125 when chameleon starts and it should boot.

If it dose then you add the busratio command as per this example

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>-legacy npci=0x3000 busratio=125 -v</string>

hope this helps.

System Specs
Bulldozer FX-8120
4GB DDR3 @1866
XFX 5970
Asus Crosshair IV Formula

Snow Leopard 10.6.8 & Lion Retail 10.7.4

Right now I have busratio=15 specified because that's my bus ratio. If I don't have it set to that my sound doesn't work right. It pops every so many seconds. Will it really help to set it that high?

So if I have this right you are running your cpu at 3GHz, if that is correct then you have the busratio number right. The one I showed is for the cpu @ default = 12.5 which is written as 125, confusing I know.

So if the busratio goes over 100, its like 10.0? And 115 = 11.5? :O

So if I'm specifying 14 is it ok? or should I do 140? Does anyone else have any ideas of what the problem could be? Not saying you're wrong but I want to be sure before I install 10.7.4 again because if it doesn't boot I have to start all over again.

Have you tried using the 10.4.0 XNU on your current / working installation, yet?

I haven't used it with 10.7.2 but I did try it after updating to 10.7.4 and it didn't work. I thought it was only for 10.7.4??

The 10.4.0 XNU appears to work on all previous versions of OS X Lion.
In contrast 10.7.4 will work using the correct Kernel Version only.

btw: bronzovka v6 Kernel (your link) is XNU 10.3.0 - the information on osx86.net that it will work on 10.7.4 is not correct / some Kernel Extensions in 10.7.4 have depencies for XNU 10.4.0 and won't work with previous kernel versions.
(You'll need to use some kext from 10.7.3 when using old Kernel)

That makes sense. I did try XNU 10.4.0 though and it also didn't work. I'm wondering if my processor is just too old. But the kernel I'm using now for 10.7.2 works great..
