@ nfoav8or: yes, sure, but i don't think it was removed or deleted, probably got lost during system/forum upgrade or maybe i accidentally did something to it. It was not external link just internal attachment of text file, codec dump i did personally in linux. No big deal, i'll find it and re-attach ;-)

Actually - that's the dump for the 885. I did some digging yesterday, and there are reports of a bug in ALSA, resulting in many linux distros misidentifying the 889a as an 885. I tried a current Xubunutu CD on my hackintosh, and can verify that it also dumped as an 885. As a result of this bug, I suspect a lot of OSx86 users out there have propagated the error.

I found a dump for the 889a, and patched it in. System Profiler shows no built-in audio, but all the inputs and outputs appear in the Sound control panel, and in Audio-MIDI Setup. The two main channels seem to work (and better, too,) although I haven't had time to test everything else yet. If anyone else would like to test it, I've attached it to this post.

Some more observations. I have a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 v.2.1 mobo. With this dump patched in, my "Internal Speakers" play by default, and I can switch to "Line Out," which works just as well. These constitute the green and black mini-plugs on the back of the board, respectively. At least now I have four usable output channels.

I at least get an input level on the pink "Internal Microphone" plug, but it's nothing useful - just noise. This may be due to the mic I'm using.

All of this is more than I had before.

Not sure if this is even an appropriate place to post all this. I'm just going to charge ahead anyway in hopes someone will eventually see it.

I just did a test of the inputs by plugging a simple stereo mini patch cable from the rear-speaker outs into each of the inputs in turn - both line in (blue) and mic in (pink.) I set my default system output to rear speakers. I launched Peak Pro, and told it to record from blue and pink in turn, and to play out the main speakers, which I then plugged headphones into. It all worked perfectly. iTunes played out the rear channels, and Peak was able to record perfectly from both inputs, and play to the main channels.

So, I now have four output channels and four input channels. Not bad.

I´m a Noob with the same Mobo as you (Gigabyte GA-EP35 DS4 Rev. 2.1), and I managed to install OS86X today, everything works for me, but sound is unavailable. Now I googled your Post and downloaded your dump. Can you tell me how to patch the dump in (wherein?). Thanks a lot, MKammi

Hi,

make your sound work first, use ALCInject so you can do it. Download Taruga patcher v.1.20. When you have sound with alcinject and stock AppleHDA, drop linux codec dump onto taruga patcher's icon (dont start the patcher and drop dump on started application in the dock; drag and drop it on the patcher icon in its folder, it will auto start application by itself). When patching is finished you can remove alcinject and use patched applehda but you have to add efi string for it, dont forget it, as you won't have sound just with patched hda. Thats it dude.

sorry for this stupid question but witch driver is bets for the 889a ?

There is no generic driver for ALC889, you should look for something specific to your mobo/computer/laptop model, as different hardware with the same codec may be different (different adresses, inputs/outputs, paths, etc.).
Having said that, tmongkol's thread on insanelymac (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140941) have one of the most complete ALC885/9 patched AppleHDA kexts that I could find, if you have a Gigabyte motherboard that would be your best bet.
Alternatively you can always use VoodooHDA.
