I'm using Leopard-10.5.2-AMD-EFI-Rev2
It boots but now I'm a screen that is gray with a darker gray apple logo.
I've been on this screen forever like 30 minutes.

I've already had problems with EBIOS read error: Device Timeout
I reburned the iso at a slower speed and now I'm on that apple logo screen.

try booting with -v -f switches at the bootloader screen. You will atleast see your problems if not boot completely

RealRitzcracker

How do I do that?

LawlessPPC

when the machine boots for a few seconds you should see a black screen with white text on counting down. Just hit enter once then you can type in -v -f then hit enter

I haven't installed it yet.

I've searched and it says to reburn the media? Is that right?

I've burnt 20 copies so far.

10 DVD+RW - 5 different programs
5 DVD-R - 5 different programs
5 NEW DVD+R DL - 5 different programs

So I'm not positive about this reburn solution.

Yes I've tried all different speeds to mostly slow ones.

Just tried in my Desktop and it worked!
So now I'm uber confused.

RealRitzcracker

Ok So I tried in my Desktop and it worked.
But it won't work in my laptop.
I burned the disk with my laptop.
They are both Acers and part of the Aspire series.
They both are running Vista.
Both have AMD cpu's.

But the disk just stops on that Gray Apple Logo Screen.

Now I'm Scared.
I actually got Leopard to install.
It said Mac Os X Sucessfully installed restarting.
So my computer restarted and now nothing loads.
Just sites at a black screen forever.

if its just sat there with a flashing cursor the hardrive is not bootable. Which you may need to install a bootloader or make the partition active or both.

When you installed on your laptop, how did you set up the disks? MBR or GUI?

Boot your system using the dvd in the drive, just don't press anything when it asks you to and it will use the bootloader off the dvd to start your machine.

Once you've complete account setup, download and install Chameleon EFI. Eject your dvd, restart and all should be fine :)

Ok I installed it sucessfully I think at least thats what the installer said.
When I reboot my laptop I see the leopard boot loader.
But then it gets stuck on that grap logo screen again.
So did the diagnostic mode and it just keeps repeating waiting for root device.
Again I'm using a laptop.

I set the disks up MBR and I installed the MBR Bootloader also.
So now It just keeps saying waiting for root device.

Thanks Again Guys!

Should I have installed them GUID?
I'm pretty sure MBR is right?
I partioned/formated the drive to extended journaled.
Then options for MBR.
Then under customization I choose MBR Bootloader.

No Flashing Cursor

nfoav8or:When you installed on your laptop, how did you set up the disks? MBR or GUI?
Partioned MBR and Bootloaded MBR

Didn't work.

RealRitzcracker

In Diag mode everything loads fine it seems like its done but then
Waiting for root device
Just repeats.

you do not have the drivers on for your chipset or there were not installed properly

RealRitzcracker
07-23-2008, 01:35 AM
How do I fix that?

Sounds like your chipset isn't configured... I agree with Lawless. What kind of chipset are you running? nforce? Is your hard drive connected via SATA? When you installed, did you choose the correct SATA controller?

I would recommend rebooting into your install DVD and checking out these Customizations first... after that you'll have to rely on the terminal in your install DVD.

The file I've attached is MeDevil's kext to help get SATA drives to respond. To manipulate this you need to unzip this file and place it on a flash disk with a known name (I will use "flash" in this instance for the name of the flash drive and "Leopard" for the name of the drive you've installed to) and do the following in Terminal:

cp -Rf /Volumes/flash/AppleNForceATA.kext /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/

chmod -R 755 /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions/ && chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions/

rm -rf /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions.mkext

(each of these is all on one line with a space separating the ones that were split)
Then reboot your drive and try it out.

Its SiS M760GX Chipset

Acer Aspire 5003WLMi Notebook
AMD Turion 64 ML-32 1.8GHz
2Gigs Ram
Acer InviLink Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11b/g
Fast Ethernet IEEE 802.3u

When you Installed did you Customize to include SiliconeImage3132 chipset drivers?

EDIT: The SiS M760GX is your video chipset... at least from all the boards I've read... Even from Silicone...

RealRitzcracker
07-23-2008, 05:58 AM
I don't remember seeing SilconeImage3132?
Whats it under
Third Party Drivers
Then what?
Are you postive thats the chipset I'm suposed to include?

RealRitzcracker

Ok Triple Checked.
My CPU is SSE3!
My Chipset is SiS 760GX

No I'm not positive, but I have searched through InsanelyMac.com and a few other Hack forums (as well as a Google search for your chipset) and have found nothing that has worked so far. (although I cannot understand Italian so that might not be the case either)

The hangup with your installation has nothing to do with your CPU properties... it simply doesn't have the correct kext installed (or installed correctly) for your system to realize it has ownership capabilities to the root drive.

I am using Leo4Allv3 because of its custom install abilities. This might be the easiest version for you as well because it will allow you to install to a GUI partitioned Hard Drive and it will set all the proper boot permissions itself as well as including a few more chipset drivers.

RealRitzcracker
07-23-2008, 06:14 PM
Yeah, I just downloaded Leo4All have to go buy some DVD's I used them all burning EFI REV2 cause it took me like 40 copies to get it perfect ahah.

Thanks!

do you have a spare external drive? After you install, try putting the install CD on a (back-side) partition of your drive. This will allow you to modify the installer to better suit your own computer... or just to reinstall quickly.

When you install, you'll be able to install via GUI partitioning. Happy Hacking.
