Please tell me if I have this right. Urgent!

OK, My hardware is:

AMD 3200+
ASUS A8V-XE
XFX 8600GT
1 GIG Memory
Sound MAX intergrated Digital HD Audio
1 160GB Hardrive (Internal) Windows XP on it.
1 Seagate 120GB USB (External) Want to put OS X on it.




Alright let me go step-by-step to the point I am at now:

1st.) I Burnt the Kalyway_10.5.2_DVD_Intel_Amd DVD.
2nd.) I installed Acronis OS Selector in Windows XP.
3rd.) I restarted my computer with Kalyway in the drive, Booted Kalyway.
4th.) I formated my USB External Hardrive to Mac Journaled from Disk Utility.
5th.) I selected certain customized options for my computer. (Can someone tell me which ones I should need for my config?)
6th.) I selected my USB External Hardrive from the list, Started the install.
7th.) Install completes, asks to reboot. I reboot
8th.) I select Unknown Operatating System from the list in Acronis. (It's OSX. I rename it to OSX afterwords)


Now that's where I get an H with a blinking cursor. I can't boot it after installing.

It looks like: H _

Did I do something in the wrong order?

If anyone needs any more info I'll post it right away! My Mac computer broke on me and I had to order a Mac Mini just to get by for now, and it's still being delivered. I need OS X for my work to design magazines.

With Kalyway you got the crappiest image what is out there. Try Leo4All V3 or perhaps the new Leo4All V4.1 which installs 10.5.4, but I havent' tested this yet.

If you are Windows XP and OS X you don't need an external boot selector, you can use the one from WinXP. There's a little fix on the boot.ini neccessary.

It seems a bit complex but this system is very safe, you can restore after nearly every crash.

What about your hardware? Does your CPU command set support the SSE3 chipset? The Venice and San Diego cores of the 3200+ support it, the Newcastle and Winchester cores doesn't. Is your gfx card a PCI-E gfx card? I would highly recommend to une OS X interally. USB is extremely slow, it won't be fun.

I'm not sure if it's even possible to boot OS X from a USB drive? :confused:

It's possible. A friend booted even from an USB-Stick. But it's a pain.

Leo4All V4.1 doesn't work for me. It always crashes, partitally during installation or when the Finder is opening :p

I agree. I've long been an external USB hard drive user - BUT - I've also found making your optical (DVD) drive USB is also an excellent way to get past install problems with IDE or SATA issues.

I bought a little "dongle" that makes just about any drive a "USB drive". It'll plug into 2.5" laptop HD's, IDE HD's and optical drives, and SATA drives of any type. As long as the MB will boot from USB, it'll skirt many chipset issues, and the dreaded "still waiting for root device" as a general rule...
