The idea of this thread is to know what software are you using. Questions and comments are welcomed.

Rar Expander 0.8.5 beta. For rar/unrar files.
Firefox. I never use Safari. Do you use it?
LeafChat. For IRC.
iPhoto. Another good alternative for viewing/managing photos?.
VLC. Useful for viewing movies and DVD's (region free).
Perian 1.0. Extended support for Quicktime.
Photoshop CS3. The Gimp would be a nice alternative.
AutoPano Pro 1.4. For making panoramas. Outstanding technology.
PhotoMatix Pro 3.0. For making HDR images.
M$ Office 2004 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
NeoOffice
MameTunes + SDLMame. I love retrogames.
TomTom manager.
VMWare Fusion
QuickSilver. A great launcher.
LiteIcon. For replacing icons.
Onyx. For optimizing system.
MediaFork. For ripping DVD and converting them to Divx.
Gmail Notifier.

You can find more free software here: http://www.opensourcemac.org/

Regards,
Sergio.

And thats it for now, its for the kids :)

@roisoft: How come that Transmission is slow for you? :)
I use mainly BitRocket (awesome), but also Transmission, and they both work fine!

Azureus takes up too many resources. Transmission is stable, though, a bit dull no features. If only there was a uTorrent port for OSX =(

I've tried Toast Titanium 8.0.3 and it doesn't work. No crash, it simply doesn't open up and doesn't respond.
What version are you using guys?.

Sergiales, did you apply cpuids ?

Puttabong
01-07-2008, 09:57 PM
Sergiales, that's because you very probably don't have QE/CI Support.

I experienced the same. It was solved when I installed proper graphic kexts.

Sergiales, Mine also crashes everytime unless i force it to run using Roseta and I have CI/QE enabled,
click on Toast icon and go to get info, then check the run using Roseta icon.
That worked for me.

jshanh:
It works nice for me, without rosetta mode.
I don't like that mode, because the programs get really slow, that means useless for me :)

But QE/CI is definitely needed for it to run!

oh, ok, I wonder why mine wont run unless i use roseta?
no biggie. Thanks

1) I've patched cpuids.
2) QE/CI working properly in my GeForce 7300GT. I'm using NVinject 0.1.3.
3) Without Rosetta is a no-no. With Rosetta it just works (a bit slow).

UPDATE. Weird things with Toast Titanium 8 in my Leopard:
1) Although it works with Rosetta, I've got a crash in the middle of a recording session :-(
2) Neither the companion utilities work. They say: "This application requires Toast 8 Titanium or later to run on your system. The application will now quit.". Strange!.
3) I've read that Perian and other QT components could be the culprit, but I've uninstalled perian, removed some QT components, and still no luck.

It's like I'm giving up on this...

By the way, even though I have Toast, I always burn with the application 'Burn'.
It's minimalistic and works very well.

Thank you, Puttabong. I've tried "Burn" and it works perfect.

Toast works fine for me but i always use Liquid CD.

Hmm, interesting, Roisoft. I'll give a try!. Thanks.

Update: LiquidCD works like a charm. Small, fast and simple. Thanks.

Yes, both Burn and LiquidCD are very nice. Forgot to mention it, thanks roisoft :D

Actually it's the Dockyard Manager (allows multiple Docks), SeaMonkey, Firefox, Activity Monitor, Path Finder and Aura. Aura is a painting program based on TVPaint for the Amiga. It's a Windows prtogram, I'm running it via CrossOver directly in OS X.

I could anyone recommend the program 'Mira' from twistedmelon.com. With an Windows Media Center 2005 Remote Control IR receiver (I got ebay one for 1,50 Euro including remote control) you can use the Apple Remote on your Hackintosh. Especcially for FrontRow this is great. But you can use the Apple Remote in EVERY program with Mira, each program could have a different key layout.

This is a nice simple addition that adds a 'recent things' stack to the Dock - http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071101055329470

firefox ,textmate, audicity, itunes, flash cs3, photoshop cs3, transmission, qt, divx player, vlc, disco, digital photo pro, eos utlity, disk utility, font explorer x, usenext, office 2008,little snitch - and a bunch of the standards

and i use unrarx which seems nice and simple - i noticed a
as a web developer i never use safari other than to test (and spend my time accommodating) that piece of shit.

firefox 3 behaves much closer to safari on mac os x when it comes to auto mounting dmgs, etc.

Personally, I like to have a clean dock, same as in my linux I have a clean launcher for xfce, and not very much on my desktop in windows or quick launch.

But, my dock contains these:

Firefox, VLC, iTunes, Terminal, Finder and Trash.

These are on the mac mini we have at my parents house though.

I will however probably have the same setup on the dock when I get leopard set up on my desktop system hopefully at the weekend.

I have more the standard apple things in my dock, but I'm using Butler as a Program selector. maybe there's a Leopard-only version out soon.

Finder, a few "Stacks, and my trash bin.

I use QuickSilver for all of my launching. No need for a dock really.
