Hi there,

i have a iDeneb v 1.3 running on my AMD 3400+ CPU (single CPU with SSE3).
I am quite happy, as nearly everything works like it should.
But i still have one big issue which makes a lot of problems.

I can not play video without massive stuttering.
As soon as i start a Quicktime-movie or a movie inside Itunes stuttering starts.
The timeline of Quicktime jumps forwards ans backwards and its impossible to watch the movie.
Same behavier of course inside iMovie.
I also have a DVB-T stick on USB - the live TV over eyeTV runs better but also every 5 seconds i have a gap.
All software is on the actuall releases.

I have a Nvidia-Card with 128MB in the system which seems to do its job quite well on other programs (QE/CI is supported, coverflow etc. runs well) so i do not thinkt this might be the problem.

Does everybody else have this kind of problems ?

Any help ?

thanks

It could be that your fsb is being incorrectly detected, it may be worth trying out the new beta Voodoo kernel (http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/voodoo-9-5-kernel-beta-2-is-now-t1397/) since it has many improvements.

Hi,

i am already at the new voodoo_beta2.

But as i was playing around today i found out some really strange thing.

When i not load AppleACD97Audio.kext my video problem is gone .....

... the bad news is: i have no sound then :-)

has anyone a clue what happens on my system ??

i had the same problem - it was caused by the audio kexts. try to use different kexts, if nothing else helps use azalia and buy yourself and usb audio stick, they are for 5$ - that solution worked for me.

One work-around for this issue is to find your device ID within AppleACD97Audio.kext and place it in another audio kext to allow the system to recognize the device but not use the parts of the kext that was not performing well with your system.

NOTE: this is a sort of last resort type of procedure and I don't recommend using this right away unless all other options have been tried and tested and then failed you. This is what I did to enable my built-in Ethernet port to work... (I realize you might look at this and do a double take... yes ethernet... follow the same procedures except replace audio in for ethernet) I found my devID and placed it in the old (and I do mean very very old) forcedeth-v kext that was used in the past. I took out all devIDs from the section you find them in and replaced them with mine. For you I would suggest placing it in AppleOnboardAudio.kext and leaving the other devIDs.

Maybe this kind of procedure only worked for me because I got lucky in this instance... but I'm still using the kext to this day for my built-in ethernet.

Which version of QT do you have? 7.5.4 or 7.5.5? I can't play movies with QT 7.5.5, it's much to slow. An divX movie takes about 90% on an Athlon 64 4000+. On my Opteron X2 I have sometimes problems with audio, the sound stops for 1-2 seconds.

I have the newest QT and a Athlon 3400+ .. as soon as i changed the soundcard everything runs very well !

Removing the audio kexts is no solution for all users. I have a Realtek ALC850 Chipset, first disabled it in BIOS and removed the kexts and it's still slow, about 65% CPU for a divX movie and 125% on H.264 with Quicktime 7.5.5. The same movies use 12% and 33% with Quicktime 7.5.4. External soundcards may not be ajustable with the system volume functions.

What for codecs are you using? I'm using Perian, actual version 1.1.2 with Stereo Audio Output.
