Hey guys first post here, and I have to say there is a wealth of info on this board. Without all of you I would not have such an awsome system to be using right now.

I have a question to ask, first some sys specs.

AMD Phenom 9850 BE
MSI K9A2 Platinum 790FX
4 gig ram
sata had
I had tried to install 4 diff distros and I cant for the life of me remember which one I have installed.
10.5.4

Every thing is running great. I was just wondering if it is the norm for the system to only recognize one core in the system.

As for everything else ....its working just fine.

if the system is 10.5.4 right after install AND it support Phenom then I'm guessing it is LawlessPPC's distro. I had to look up your motherboard (over at Newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130136)) to make sure I knew what I was talking about and it looks like your board should see all the cores.

Couple Questions: when you go to /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor, do you see four boxes showing you your core activities? if so then your system recognizes it... but system profiler doesn't. Have you tried booting with the boot flag "cpus=4"?

There are numerous posts around this forum on getting your cores recognized with a SB600 southbridge chipset so you are no exception to this working. Hope to hear back with good results.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Yes you are correct, System monitor does show four cpu's....thanks for the heads up.
I will run the switch right now and let you know....

I just ran the switch at boot cpus=4 and it is still the same as before....But I guess its not big deal......Again thanks for the help....:)

the switch isn't to help get you to see 4 cores at system boot. That is meant so the system will realize it if it isn't showing up in the activity monitor. If the Activity Monitor shows four CPU boxes, then you have it.. System Profiler is just not recognizing it.

Thats what I had figured after your help and digging around a bit more. I will just edit the ATM like I have read in other posts here.

Thanks for your time.

If you use the latest voodoo kernel it should display the cores correctly

Hi, I have a system like

MSI K9A2 CF (SB600 - 790X)
4GB Ram
1x80GB ide HDD
2x250 sata HDD
HD 3850 Graphics card
M-Audio 24/96 sound card

I install LawlessPPC's 1.5.4 succesfully but can boot in safe mode only otherwise there is blue screen or some funny commadore 64 graphics :) ethernet is not working in safe mode. so what should I do? I could use any help.

thank you.

it could be the 4GB Ram Limit... boot with the boot-flag "maxmem=3072"

also, you may want to ensure your graphics are supported with the proper kexts. rm the old ones and reinstall new ones (while running in safe mode)

The funny multi colored squares happen when you end up with the very latest graphics drivers for ATI (apple official ones) they are not compatible. You need to install the latest graphics drivers you can find that arent official apple. But install with something like pacifist and tell it to replace all files. The reason being the majority of installers will leave the most recent files there and not replace. This is the issue i had with the hd3650 drivers so i changed the installer for the distro. But not having the other cards i had no way to test.
