View Full Version : Problem with a new install

I'm posting for a friend, he only has one computer and he is on the phone with me trying to get his setup going.

He has just install Mac OS X through the Leo4all4.1 method.

-AMD Athlon X2
-SATA hard drive
-IDE DVD drive
-ATI 2600HD PCIe.
-a33g motherboard from pcchips

I apologise if this isn't sufficient info, I can get more from him if needed to help any further.

His problem is when Mac OS X begins to bootup it shows the regular gray screen with an Apple and shows that it's loading. But there is an additional symbol of a cancel sign. A circle with a slash going through it and no matter how long the wait, it still doesn't boot.

Here is what it looks like
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3056/3053168793_85a96d3420.jpg

Sometimes it doesn't even go that far and it would just show the Apple and the gray screen frozen and the cancel sign doesn't show up.

We have attempted changing the BIOS settings to defaults and going further modifying the settings as recommended on an insanelymac post. Didn't help at all.

PS: I am reading the forums now to see if there is any previous posts on this issue.

I don't know enough regarding that motherboard model, but my Spidey Sense is telling me he should try installing onto an IDE drive instead.
I'll see if I can dig up some mobo info later on. ATM I'm fixing a fuss with Time Machine.

No offense, dude, but I can't read squat on most of those pictures. Can you write for us in text what it stops at in Verbose mode? And does it say anything about "still waiting for root device"?

Well I can't say for sure that's what it is, but if you're getting "still waiting for root device" perchance, an unsupported southbridge is likely the cause.
I can't find anything on that mobo's southbridge, either. It's an SiS 965L.

I'm just helping him over the phone or over IM. The reason he isn't posting is because he still doesn't have access to post for some reason.

Me, I have an iBook and my PC has Windows XP MCE/Debian Etch.

Help with what?

"a different problem"

I don't see how anyone could even guess at what's wrong with that amount of info.

No. What I am saying though is that even the "people who made fucking mac work on amd" aren't mind readers. So even they wouldn't know that you had a b0 error until you just told them right now !!!

And now that you quit playing around and actually gave us an error message, I'm thinking that it's such a common error that it won't take precious time away from a genius to solve it. Nope, any dumbass should be able to Google "b0 error" and get a million results.

Good Luck.

b0!? Have him get that WIndows drive out of there as a precaution.
If OS X is on the same drive as Windows...then it sounds like for this mobo, he may be better off getting another drive.
EDIT: OK, it is the same drive. Sorry I forgot that bit. /facepalm

Some other general ideas...
1. Try reinstalling with SATA set to IDE mode, as it may help. Assuming, of course, you already tried AHCI.
2. Installing all the network drives may only serve to complicate things. Uncheck everything but those whose brand matches what you have (ie RTLs for Realtek, etc. depending on what LAN chipset is on the mobo)
3. Leave out the video card and leave all the videos drivers unchecked. This may also be putting a cork in things.
4. If all else fails, get an IDE drive and try with that. You can probably get a 20 or 40 gig used on the cheap, and that will be enough for OS X.

Hi,

I agree with Ali.C. You can try as suggested above.

This is a real mess indeed, no offence. OSX is a very delicate OS especially when trying to install and run it on pc hardware, as some is supported and some not, some with cut-off capabilities etc. It has taken me for weeks, in the beginning, to install and run it natively on my amd box in spite of being capable to run it pretty smoothly (which i wasn't aware of). So you should take your steps steadily and most of all, explore everything you can find on the internet regarding the particular hardware, chipset, graphics, etc. There is a HCL, hardware compatibility list at wiki, a must place to visit, etc.

Some reported that can run OSX with SIS chipset natively. Some with IDE hdd, some with SATA only. As at your installation you selected and installed everything that was selectable, i won't be trying to make it work any longer. If you have 'windoze' also installed on the same hdd and want to dual boot, i wont do that at this point. If you plan to mess with mac os now and see if it can be run on that hardware, dedicate that hard drive for mac osx (at least for now). Do not install anything you are completely sure it is adequate for your hardware. EFI is a must, mac osx won't go without it. In your bios, under Onboard Sata controller, if there is an option to change to from ide to sata->ahci, do it, and try booting and installing with ahci mode. Try with it. When customizing installation, if there are any third party drivers for your chipset (Should be named for SIS) install them, if not, do not install any other chipset driver. Skip any other customization at this point, graphics, lan, audio. The main point is to get the hard drive running and boot the installed system, anything else can be added later. When installed try to boot with "-v" flag when promted, in verbose mode, so you can see where you are stucked at. If the system wont boot in ahci , try to see what google has to say about your chipset (sata controller), other people's experiences, etc. If no luck at all then you could try with IDE drive. But we'll see until then, one step at the time.

Hope it helps a bit, if nothing else then at least to clarify things.
Regards!

How did you connect before? Wireless or LAN? For either of those connections we will need more info on the system to tell you how to configure yours to connect.

Also, could you use a few more periods or commas. I get lost just trying to read through your posts. It doesn't help us help you any if we can't make heads or tails of what you are saying (or if I have to go back and reread something to make sure you meant your thought to end in a different place than I thought it did previously). It's just courtesy but thanks.

yea sure no problem and it was was sata but i used the ide option in my mother board.
but i use a wirles router. but dont use the wireles on it so its ether net broad band cable what ever u want to call it. point is its high speed its from com cast so there u go .
and i didn't have it plugged into internet so it wouldn't send any info to apple . i heard not to have it pluged in

also i have noticed a problem i have to have the disc in to get mac osx to run if not i get b0 error

nfoav8or
11-27-2008, 05:19 PM
you can plug it in. just don't be sending things to Apple to tell them you are one of the many that are using a hackintosh.

get chameleon from this site: http://chameleon.osx86.hu/ and install it on your hackintosh after you've booted into it via the install disc. This will correct the unmarked partition for the bootloader issues.

Legodude522
11-27-2008, 06:55 PM
ok i will do that but i kept every thing and i still dont have internet can u link me the drivers to install via a flash drive or some thing
uhh i know this sounds stupid but i cant figure out what one to down load and how do i burn it or do i even need 2

nfoav8or

I would except this:
but i use a wirles router. but dont use the wireles on it so its ether net broad band cable what ever u want to call it. point is its high speed its from com cast so there u go .
and i didn't have it plugged into internet so it wouldn't send any info to apple . i heard not to have it pluged in

isn't really much to go on. What I was hoping for was something like what can be found here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.5.2#Network_Cards
The necessary info is what is included in the "device" and "manufacturer" columns... these are the most helpful bits of information.

If your LAN cable plugs directly into your motherboard, I'm going to need more info on the motherboard to help... all I can find from the information in your previous posts is that the motherboard is by PCCHIPS and includes the SiS761GX chipset. From this, I think this: http://www.shopping.com/xPF-PC-Chips-PC-Chips-Socket-AM2-SiS-761GX-DDR2-800-A-V-L-mATX-A33G is your motherboard. Can you let me know if this is correct?

if it is, when you installed your system what network "fix" did you choose?

Legodude522
11-29-2008, 01:22 AM
yea that is my mother board i am provideing all the info i can and yes i plug the cord into my mother board so i can get online and what do u mean fix if u mean what network driver i cant rember i think it was a realteck one i think they were only 2 with some thing simlar to sis i think but if i knew any thing else i could give you i would
i hate to say it but u guys might have to make mine compatible or some thing and add the pc chips mother board to the list of hard ware lol

nfoav8or
11-29-2008, 01:26 AM
when you installed, you clicked on the Customize button correct?
What did you select under Network?

EDIT: its a wiki... why don't you add your own devices in? This list isn't complete nor has it been updated to show the full range of OS X versions. It does give people a good place to start to see what others have done to create a Hackintosh or to see how others made their systems work.

you can reinstall any of the network drivers from the DVD when you are already booted into your OS X system. with Finder in the menu press [shift]+[command]+[g] and it will bring up the Go To Folder box. Depending on your install disk, the name of your DVD volume will be different, I'm going to use the name "Mac OS X Install DVD" so you can see that spaces are retained in this box... just change the name to fit your install DVD. Now type in:/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/ and you'll see the Finder open this up. Now just navigate your way through the folders until you've found them. If you can't find anything matching your network, let me know... but I'd rather not go down the EFI string path right now unless we know we can't fix it any other way.

EDIT: hey man, we are all just trying to help. cut us a little slack. We aren't the one with access to the computer so we can't just know the answers. OS X isn't that cut and dry... it takes time to figure out how to make it work on some systems. Time and Patience.

EDIT #2: according to newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813185083 you've got a "Broadcom AC131 PHY" built-in LAN. I'll do some more searching but I don't think this is on the disk.

EDIT #3: Last one for the day... (unless you've got more questions)... found this while searching around for the Broadcom AC131 PHY.... The first post I found helpful for you was:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=47795&hl=Broadcom+AC131+PHY
which leads to:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34074&hl=forcedeth
Look through the broadcom section. Should work fine.

nfoav8or

the key with the windows symbol on it on a windows keyboard is the command key for apple's boards. the logic circuit points to the same key.

uhh i just tryed one of the tuts for the belkin thing i kinda had a problem with it its kinda confuseing
and i went into the bakges and installed i think 3 defernt drivers nmon of them worked i think im not even really sure how to set up the net work

nfoav8or
11-29-2008, 10:01 PM
well the network is found by going through "System Preferences" from either the dock or the apple menu drop-down. then configure using DHCP if you use a high-speed connection. They normally set it up so it can be done that way... but first we need to make sure you have a device listed on the left...

we can always try to figure out what your network devID is so we can just plug that in to a forcedeth.kext .plist file and try to force it to work.

I'll help ya do that if nothing else works first.

Legodude522
11-29-2008, 10:23 PM
yea i use high speed inter net i tryed going thro there a secound ago i couldent find net work on the list i will call com cast and see about configureing it hope fully it will work if i have the drivers instlled i need im at a complete ,lost im mean i feal stupid im more windows friendly and i want to beable to get good with mac and use it so

I'm on here pretty regularly if I'm not at work.

another thing to try is IRC. Get a client and use the link at the top of the page to go to the site's IRC. I'm in there every once in a while too.

With your network... make sure you've got a device listed as Ethernet (others include Airport, Bluetooth, etc) before you go calling. otherwise Comcast won't be any help at all.

If you've got a device, then I'd say its ok to call... as long as you are sure it isn't your system not recognizing the device.

This is the fist time I am in this forum.
Installed Zep's 10.5.2 in M2A-VM HDMI 690G/SB600 AMD6000+

I succeeded installing this os after several trials (trying various configuration during install)
Sound ALC883 - got mpkg from google and worked after installing.
MS VX6000 worked after trying "SN9C202 (Phase out)" from Sonix

Display resoulution is not good with 1024/768.

Can someone help me to get mkpg for x1250 ATI?
Following is my display id from apple about menu
Type: Display
Bus: PCI
VRAM (Total): 128 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=74483&hl=X1250+ATI

as far as I know the only way to "attempt" to get this working is to edit the x2000 kext's info.plist and place your devID in. But this has only been tested to work on Tiger (as far as I know). The reason for the 2000 edit is because it is based on the same chip that is in the 1250 and not the 1000.

Hope this helps...

(keep searching though; an update for this can come at any minute)

Thanks for the tips and the link. So there is no driver for x1250 yet. I can't believe all my effort now failed. Everything is working in my system except for display driver.

To my little knowledge in mac, I was able to make webcam vx6000 to work and thought display is only minimum.

Can someone advise me which ATI PCI express x16 card to buy?

find out your devID for the ethernet... remember to swap the values around like we talked about in IRC... in the Finder menu, select "Go" then "Go to Folder..." then input "/System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/"

right click through the files and select "Show Package Contents" and edit the info.plist located within them. Find the lines showing other devIDs and place yours at the end in the same format... (remember: 0x1345de43 or whatever yours happens to be)... repair extensions permissions using that same app and try out your ethernet after reboot. Hope something works... you can use Terminal and type "kextstat" to find out what extensions you are using (in order to determine which of the network kexts allows this to work)

you should try this out on each of them individually and don't edit the rest of the .plist...

let me know how/when/if its working. I realize this is pretty hit/miss by doing it this way but like I said before, I haven't found any direct fix for this except the mentioning of editing the kexts to include the devID.

ok i know its going to seam to like im lazzy but what i did was cause i couldent quite figure it out was i made a copy of the id print outts and all and all the files in the folder u told me to go to
to give to you and let u edit them sdo i dont fuck shit up and make it fubar and cause more problems for u to help fix so let me know how i should send them to you edit btw i couldent get it to save as a text file for viewing in windows so u will have to logon a mac and view it i think any ways best i could do

find your devID and just post it as it is seen via the lspci printout... use [command]+[shift]+[4] to take a screenshot of a selectable area of your screen (you do remember what the [command] button is right?) copy this to a flash disc formatted to fat32, reboot to windows, then post the picture here.

I really wish you would do this step on your own or I fear you won't learn how your system works... you installed it in the past and got this far... what could happen that you couldn't get back to this point? IMO nothing...

but for now and simplicity sake I'll help with what you are asking.

don't bother sending the files... just the picture of the devID from the lspci printout. remember to use OSx86 Tools Utility to get this.

Legodude522
12-02-2008, 05:57 PM
ok i thought u told me to use kextstat on terminal to get them ok i will get a look at it again and try to get you the data btw the folder u told me to open it has 6 defernt things in there for internet drivers wich one should i open i have them for rtl some thing and broad com usb utilty its con fuseing

nfoav8or
12-02-2008, 07:05 PM
kextstat does what the name implies... it gives you the stats on the kexts being used.... you're confusing the steps... this is to see (later on) which of the kerenel extensions the editing works on.

send me that picture and we'll get the ball rolling.

This is the line we need:

00:04.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 190 Ethernet Adapter [1039:0190]

I'm at work right now so I'll work on it when I get home and PM you. Hopefully we can get this resolved for you pretty quickly.
