I wondered if i should ask here but why not - here goes. I`ve updated to 10.5.5 cause on 10.5.4 new Voodoo kernel shuts my laptop down randomly and i can`t really get my GFX working. I`ve noticed that after the installation EQ\CI and resolution doesn`t work. i`ve installed kexts anew and only Resolution works. Installing ATIRadeonX100***** kexts which usually enabled QE\CI results with blue screen with mouse in the corner. Know this is noob, but what can i try to do about it ?

Remove all graphics kexts by booting up with "-s" flag... cause your system to boot up into the default graphics... then re-install the fixes you've used in the past.

What fixes do you have in mind ? The modified kexts that worked in the past ? If yes - i`ve already tried it - removing all kexts in -s mode and reinstalling them again - it worked after previous update, but not this time. I`ve installed all of them one by one - the problem shows up after installation of ATIRadeonX1000GLDriver.bundle.

have you had a look at: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=95169 (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=95169&hl=X1600+10.5.5) yet?

it isn't about getting it to 10.5.5 but it does talk about the graphics update...

this following link might also help out a bit... it includes some manual editing of the kexts to get them working right:

Ok, i`ll give it a try - thanks :) but first i`ll make myself another installation so i can test and try with no risk. For the moment i`ve reverted to 10.5.4 and i think i`ve solved my problem with shuting down - at least i hope it`s solved. It seems that it was just overheating and shuting itself down. I`ve deleted AppleCPUThermo.kext and - system is quite cool and quiet now...it`s working for over 3 hours now and nothing happened so i hope i can consider it solved... anyway i wonder why this never happened before - and it does happen on the new Voodoo kernel ?

The new Voodoo kernel (Version 1.0 Rev A) includes the disabler for IntelCPUPowerManagement.kext but it still doesn't protest against overheats. You did the right thing by deleting the AppleCPUThermo.kext although I thought I found a disabler for this as well (so in case you update and it gets reinsterted, you've covered)... I can't remember where I saw this at though. search around.

Well, this will be a little off the topic but - i`ve searched a while and still i don`t really know what this AppleCPUThermo.kext does ? Why system is cooler after deleting this ? guess it`d be nice to know :)

Oh, and i`ll search for the disabler - cause probably i won`t even remember about deleting the kext next time.
