View Full Version : 10.5.4 updaten auf 10.5.6, wie?

Hallo,

I can understand you and yes I know I am typing in English in a Deutch room.
Leo4Allv4 can be updated to 10.5.6 using native Apple update IF you also have the Voodoo kernel running (use mach_kernel.voodoo during update) as well as a Decrypt kext, an IntelCPUPMDisabler kext, and an AppleSMBIOSEFI kext. first get those running in your currently installed system. if you need these files PM me, I'll get them to you, and we can start up in a new English thread and I can help you more from there...

BTW, you won't need DSDT Patcher as the final release for 10.5.6 does not require this... that was only the beta variant.

Okay, thanks for reply :-)
We can talk also english, no problem, I hope ;-)

Have I to put the Decrypt, IntelCPUPMDisabler and AppleSMBIOSEFI kext in the extension folder before reboot? And yes, I need these kext :-)

Second, how can I be sure I am booting from Voodoo? Is it the 9.5.0 in the systemprofiler?

Thrid, I only can boot with the Leo4All DVD in the drive and i have to select the drive to boot from HD, don't know why ... I also have activated the partition with fdisk ... no changes.

So, I can't boot in verbose mode to see which kernel is loaded.

Thanks for help
FHT

P.S. You can move this thread in another section, if you want to.
P.P.S. Do you understand german? :-)

yeah I understand some german... I took three years of it in High school (but that was about 10 years ago).

have you installed chameleon to resolve the bootloader issues?

I'll PM you with the kexts.

to see if you are booting Voodoo you can see if it says kernel 9.5.0 in system profiler (or -v will give that readout... but you said you can't do that way) You could always just reinstall the kernel and KNOW then that you have it installed.

I don't really see the need to move the thread right now. it should be ok. i don't know why anyone would have an issue with us talking in here in English if you started the thread in Deutsch...

how is your HD partitioned? GUID partition scheme or MBR?

I think chameleon is been installed. How can I check this? And if not, how can I reinstall it without to install X again? :-/

When I select dvd as boot device and let the countdown go by it booted with chameleon bootloader.

HD is in GUID partition scheme.

First I have a b0 error, then I used fdisk for activate the partition. Maybe fdisk was the wrong tool, I don't know.

I have used this "how to":
http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t22844.html

by using the DVD and letting the timer run out, you are using the DVD's bootloader to recognize your hard drive as bootable.

you don't need to reinstall your system.. just download the chameleon (http://chameleon.osx86.hu/) installer... (right side under "Releases"... you'll see Installer in the name. (watch out though, it has music in it... you can "show contents" and delete it and the installer will work fine)

use the DVD to boot up then install this file making sure you select the proper drive to boot. All should be fine then.

Thank you very much. Now the system is booting fine. Voodoo-Kernel is also installed :-)

Problems I have now are the following:
Restart and shutdown doesn't work (this works fine with the "MBR partition")

USB2 problem: I tuned the EHCI-Controller on in the BIOS and get the following error (verbose mode):

"AppleUSBEHCI[0x5fa8000]::UIMCheckForTimeouts - Async USBCMD and USBSTS not synched ON"

How to fix that?

I updated X successfully :D
Also reboot and shutdown works correctly :)
USB2 doesn't :'(
Should I post my system.log? :)

Parallels 3 didn't work, too.
I've used this guide:
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Virtualization#Install_Parallels_on_AMD64

After the double-click, Parallels crashes immediately.
I'm using the Voodoo-Kernel on 10.5.6

Parallels 3 (or 4) for me needed to have the kernel be named mach_kernel running to use it so if you are using the voodoo kernel make sure you've also opened the Terminal and copy/rename the kernel since your update:
sudo -s
cp /mach_kernel.voodoo /mach_kernel
then you should be able to open it.

as for your USB issues, is it just USB 2.0 functionality or all USB? can you start the system up in safe mode (-x) and use it? I am thinking the controllers are getting confused with other devices (but this could be wrong). If you are able to use USB in safe mode can you run "kextstat" in the Terminal and give me a printout of your results?

Thanks for reply :)
I don't want to rename the Kernel. Which app do you prefer besides Parallels? Fusion? :-/
If I disable USB2 in BIOS, all USB devices run fine. I will start in safe mode, USB2 switched on.

Next problem, VLC 0.8.6d, didn't work. It crashes after a clip starts. Tried to download VLC 0.9.8. After it is downloaded and Safari is mounting it, I get a KP. Tried it twice and always a KP :-/

Edit: First, I have to eat something ;)

I don't want to rename the Kernel. Which app do you prefer besides Parallels? Fusion? :-/ its not straight up rename like you do in Finder. This copies the file to a new file while keeping the old one in place. In order to get both Parallels and Fusion working, I needed to do this as it is a known issue and is also stated in the Voodoo Documentation.

If I disable USB2 in BIOS, all USB devices run fine. I will start in safe mode, USB2 switched on.there is a usb 2.0 fix out there (I don't have it personally right now) so you might try a few more searches on this one if you feel disabling USB2 is too much on an inconvenience.

Next problem, VLC 0.8.6d, didn't work. It crashes after a clip starts. Tried to download VLC 0.9.8. After it is downloaded and Safari is mounting it, I get a KP. Tried it twice and always a KP :-/
Do you have the seatbelt.kext file in your Extensions folder? this is also a known issue that is becoming more prevalent with 10.5.6. If you don't have it, PM me.

First, I have to eat something ;) ENJOY

Counting on Parallels, have I understood you wright?
1. Duplicate the Voodoo kext
2. Rename the Voodoo kernel to mach kernel
3. Replace the mach kernel to the renamed Voodoo kernel

Is this correct?

VLC:
com.apple.security.seatbelt is loaded (in safe mode).

Is this the right kext?
This seatbelt.kext is from 2008-11-18 324kb ... something like that.

For the USB2 fix, I will google

well now you've stumped me. the USB issue is something I'm going out of my realm on so I'll have to do a little more research with you on this.

as far as the kernel question goes... yes, that is basically what is going on. you could do the same in Finder by copying your mach_kernel.voodoo and pasting it to another folder where you can rename it, then drag it back to your root directory (after you've already deleted the original mach_kernel)

Now you have to load the right kernel on startup.

to test this first (without modifying your com.apple.Boot.plist file to direct you to a different kernel) simply use the boot flag "mach_kernel" along with any of the other boot flags you normally use. this will load the kernel specified and you should be able to test parallels and/or fusion with positive results.

For me, I needed to delete the seatbelt kext (although everywhere else I've read tells me that I need to keep it).

don't delete yours, first copy it to the desktop then delete the original in the Extensions folder. reboot and retry. place the backup of seatbelt somewhere you won't forget and if you ever need it just replace it and reset permissions.

Remember, this is only a test with the seatbelt.kext because of my experience with it. (I had the same issue only it was with opening the Voodoo Kernel image)

So nfoav8or :D
Good news ;)

First, Parallels works. It doesn't always at the first try. But it works.
Replaced seatbelt, VLC doesn't work. Moved it back, doesn't work. I always rebooted the system. Is there a new version of seatbelt?

USB2 problem, it seems I found the solution:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=28559&st=440&start=440#

I'll give it a try :)

nice USB2 news... sorry to hear the image issue is still giving you problems.

can you take a picture to upload of this KP? I think we can get a little further by seeing it.

Also, is it happening with only the VLC image or all images?

Do you have also a PCGenUSBEHCI.kext in your extension folder? If yes, can you send it to me? Also the seatbelt.kext?

I have still the PCGenUSBEHCI.kext faild to load error ...

VLC now works correctly. I take the seatbelt from 10.5.5
VLC only plays a black screen. I think that's because of the intgrated Radeon HD3200 (only works in VESA mode.

Mounting dmgs works, too.

Firewire didn't work correctly
USB2 still didn't work :(
