View Full Version : Mouse Lag/Choppiness

It seems to happen at random.
Like the Dual Core Timing Issue but cpus=1 kernel flag does not fix it.
As well the duel core fix on the iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 does not help.
Mouse pointer lags when you move the mouse. Also the pointer likes to skip around the screen.
If I do manage to get the mouse to the dock I noticed that the dock animation is also slow.

This is after I have a fully working system QE & CI enabled.
I installed a zephroth patched itunes 8.02 installer and after restart I got the lag.
But when I booted over to my text OS X install on another drive it too had the lag.

Once I installed paragon ntfs and that gave me mouse lag after reboot but I removed the applications folder and that fixed it.
Another time I installed parallels and after reboot it had mouse lag.

Some help would be appreciated!

Pls see below

I installed Voodoo 10.5.5 as I read someplace that if you have AMD , you need to have 10.5.5 but (in one of the many installations) I still saw the lagging and choppiness you mentioned.
Did not try to remove the file AppleUpstreamxxxxx something or other mentioned in this thread. I'll tried that later.

--------

I have the following system and have been experimenting - not a lot of success
MB: ASUS M2NBP-VM CSM
CPU AMD 64X2 5000+
Graphics: Nvidia 8400 GS
SATA drive - Have a "version" of Leopard (10.5.2 -> 10.5.4 -> 10.5.5)
PATA drive - This is the drive I am trying to install the 10.5.6
4 GB 800 MHz RAM
PS2 Keyboard (wireless) and Mouse
Audio - Built in (AppleAzalia works well
Eth: Internal (nForceEthernetdriver works reasonably well) - Nvidia nForce 430B Gigabit
External - Ethernet-to-USB - works pretty well

Loaded base + chipset formy sata (detects it) + NVIDIA + PS2 fix + nForce + appl.
voodoo kernel + seabelt (i read AM==> voodoo + seabelt somewhere).
Mouse very slow and erratic. <=== LAGGING and CHOPPY

Loaded base +chipset+ keyboard fix => Unable to detect KB and Mouse

I also have te problem of booting of the DVD, but I solved it by installing from the existing 10.5.5

Any way any suggestions greatly appreciated

On the download page it says it's Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel Release 1.0 Package (Rev A)

well 9.5.0 is a kernel version that goes for 10.5.5 system.

But the iPC 10.5.6 release has the voodoo 9.5.0 kernel on it and that is already installed on my system.

Bump! Can someone answer. I'm confused!

I remember in the past similar symptons being caused by the fsb speed being incorrectly detected by the kernel.

You can manually specify the speed using a boot argument, they can be found in the Voodoo documentation (http://xnu-dev.googlecode.com/files/Voodoo%20Kernel%20User%20Documentation.pdf)

If this doesn't help, is your machine overclocked? If so try reverting to defaults.

You can have an older kernel than your current OS version. What confuses you here? And do remove the AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext, it'll solve your mouse lagging most probably. Check if you get the lag when iTunes is open or if it's there even when you've quit iTunes completely. If it's the former, then removing the kext will solve your problem.

I'll try your suggestions. Thanks for the help.

And I will try this as well as try removing the AppleUpstreamUserCilent.

I booted into OSX and I had a windows formated disc in my dvd drive and I got the laggyness again.

No, I'm aware that the Kernel version is different then the OS version. There's no confusion there.
It's that Voyn1x said I needed the 10.5.5 kernel: version 9.5.0. Which I already had. and I thought he was talking about a newer version.

It seems I had problems with a lagging machine/ lagging mouse problems again.
But tried the booting fsb option you mentioned also adding =200000000 to that boot argument.

Also my machine is not overclocked.

Fixed! thanks again Voyn1x!

Does this occur consistently or once in a while..i am also having similar issues. But it happens as it wishes!!..sometimes it works some time it lags.
My video card is
8600GT 512MB- CI/QE enabled with 9f23installer

I have posted my issues clearly here

No it was doing it as it wished. But then I tried booting with fsb=200000000 and it fixed it.

But then I bought a IDE dvd drive so I could burn dvds in osx but it caused the mouse bug again.
So I reinstalled osx and everything is okay. But as of now I don't need to boot with fsb=.

Well now the fsb=200000000 doesn't work. I was playing around with iGetter and restarted and now when I boot up after the osx loading screen the monitor shows no signal and then goes light blue then shows the desktop but my mouse doesn't work again.
Should I give iDeneb 1.4 a try? Or will that give me the same problems?

Though i have installed 9f23..the problem is most of these pkgs wont replace existing files. so I extracted required files. in my case all GE force files, NV* files and replaces them with what was there in the packages. Actually i removed those files and the then installed new files using kexthelper. restarted...cool it works...no issues as now.. Wake from sleep is an issue..completed disabled. Otherwise rocks..survived 40+ shutdown..start..60+ restarts no issues :) Hope you have EFI installed. if so then remove all the NV* files from single user mode and then restart. You will mostly have workable system with Non QE/CI..now open 9f23 in pacifist...look for Nvidia files and just extract those to desktop. Now remove all equivant files from your extensions and install these using kexhelper or similar installer or manually. Give it a try..it might help...as now i dont have natit/nvkush/nvinject..it works with out them...be cautious with wake from sleep. hope it helps..u can try same way for ATI as well

Hi, I'm having the same problems as you laterusman. If you fix it, please post here again!

I'm using iDeneb 1.4 with this setup:

asus m2npv-vm, athlon 64 x2 4000+, sata hd, with an asus 8800GT (g92) attached.

Using voodoo kernel, removed the appleuserupstream kext (or whatever its called) installed using nvinstaller, (no nvinject), using fsb=200000000, and have tried cpus=1 to no avail. The problem even occurs when i boot in safe mode :(

the thing is that it starts working for a bit then gets the jumpiness. I wonder if theres a process run by launchd causing it?

nickdanger3d

one thing I did notice, is i went to the console and opened the system log, there were a lot of messages like this:

Mar 21 11:11:50 <myhostname> kernel[0]: IOHIDSystem::relativePointerEventGated: Unwanted Direction Change Y: oldDy=-2 dy=5

Weird nickdanger because for me as of right now. I'm in my iPC 10.5.6 install and everything is fine I booted in to safe mode one day and I didn't have the lag so I figured I that may have fixed it and so I restarted and everything's been fine.
Been working almost exclusively in os x using parallels and photoshop.

I'm still getting the mouse bug randomly....could it be an application? or is it the Voodoo kernel? thats giving me these problems.
I never got it on iDeneb 1.3. Which had a different kernel for AMD users.

I'll have a working system one boot then if I restart and log back in my monitor shows no signal then I see the mouse for a second on a blue background then that screen goes away then I get to the desktop and my mouse is jumpy and sluggish. Booting cpus=1 or fsb= doesn't work.

This is getting annoying.

I just reinstalled cause I was having a similar mouse issue. nagu's advice is what fixed mine. You must remove the existing video kexts.

Installed iPC with nvidia mac pro (no injectors!)
Used kext helper b7 to fix my wifi (also created /Backup Extensions)
Downloaded the 9f23installer.pkg
cd /System/Library/Extensions
sudo mv GeF* /Back*
sudo mv NVD* /Back*
Run 9f23installer
Use osx86tools to add the EFI string
Reboot -f -v

No more mouse lag! Both screens on my 8800gt 512mb card are working at full res. :D

ok how do I fix this bug in snow leopard? since I can't install leo nvidia kexts.. what do I do?

There is some deep magic going on with the modifications made to the kexts buried inside of the 9f23 installer.

I could never figure out what it was, but it allowed my 7900GTX to work with no problems. (er ah, also bios patched it to enable all 512MB of ram)

I'm having the same problem now on a 8800GTS. Going to see if this old technique will work...

Funny part about the 7900... I gave that card away to a relative who wanted to use it for SLi on his windows rig. It didn't work due to the bios patch. :-O

Thankfully I had a backup of the original rom so he was able to reverse it. :-D

Well much to my surprise it still works.

While inspecting the installer package with pacifist I suddenly remembered that it also has a altered OpenGL framework so it's important that you replace the current one with that as well.

I now have my PNY 8800GTS 640M running with full acceleration.

Cheers!
