Hi all,

I have an HP Pavillion DV4200 (dv4217cl).

I have previously installed 10.4.8 JAS and used the jumper trick for closing the video circuit. After a lot of time and effort, it worked "okay" but the video, mouse movement and some peripherals were inconsistent for me to keep the build.

I have ideneb 10.5.5 and iPC 10.5.6 but I am unsuccessful in getting either installed on this laptop.

ideneb gives me a "deadbeef' boot prompt before the dvd even begins to install, so, it's literally a non-starter.

iPC gets installed but I run into a problem with display and gfx card mismatch. I have made some selections that remove this error but I still get no x-server. The system seems to be installed but I get no graphics.

hp dv4217cl notebook; installed:
9.5 voodoo kernel as advised for sse2 proc (pentium m 1.73ghz)
laptop display (it is a notebook)
gma915 (correct video chipset)
intel ich10 (which is supposed to cover the ich6 chipset on this notebook)
realtek 1000 (which covers the 810x on this board)
ac97 audio (still don't know which is the correct audio for this notebook; no docs even on hp website)
intel proset wireless 2200 (the wireless adapter)

Any ideas? Better yet, any specific instructions for this notebook?
