I am formatting my hard drive with one partition to GUID with the disk utility upon installation. But it is stuck on "Creating partition map", any help?
I have a Compaq SR2011WM with upgraded ram.

Try MBR if it`s not a problem. My old laptop never worked with GUID map, but i don`t really know why...

Run installer again, run Disk Utilities, select your disk which you want to format and select Partition tab, then Options button at the bottom, and change it to MBR.

Use a Linux Live CD or something similar and verify you don't have a b0rked hard drive. If anything would prove a drive is on its deathbed, it's unsuccessful reformatting.
Or with OSX86, a southbridge conflict.:p But verify your hard drive's in good shape before you worry about how to fix that.
