i have finally got my hands on a p35 motherboard :D so im going to try to get a 100% intel hack setup. This is my hardware config and the drivers im using, if there are better options can you please tell me :D it would be greatly appreciated
OS: Mac OS X Leo4All 10.5.2 (The only version i have i cant get a newer version but i have all the standalone updates to 10.5.6)
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHz - Vanilla Kernal 9.2.2
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R - P35 Control Centre by PCWiz (http://www.infinitemac.com/f39/gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3x-control-center-t1316/)
GFX Card: NVIDIA Geforce 8600GT 256MB - NVinject 0.2.1 & Zephyroth NVIDIA Universal Installer
RAM: 4GB DDR2 RAM
So if anyone can tell me if i am installing the right drivers it would be greatly appreciated, i will update you guys on how the install goes :D

okay, i now understand the frustration that some hack users go through. first i had a problem with the bios where the startup disk wasnt detecting the HDD i fixed this, because the bios was set in RAID mode, but i changed it to IDE and then it booted install disk. now this next step is where i am stumped, everytime i go to format my HDD it gives me these errors. Things like Underlying task reported failure on exit, and the most common one Filesystem verify or repair failed. And i get the same errors whatever Disk Utility option i try; Repair, First Aid, Erase. All of it. i am using a 80GB IDE Disk. Any help would be great :)

Alright now my computer is really bugging me i have tried to install OS X now 5 times and each time ive had a problem:
1st Time:
Couldnt format the IDE Drive, i just fixed that by replacing with a SATA disk and that all worked out.
2nd Time:
I partitioned it into 2 partitions, one was fat32 the other Mac OS Exteneded (Journaled) Format, then when i went to install with the minimum kexts (NVinject 0.2.1 and Vanilla Kernal) It froze at 2mins left of install
3rd Time:
I reduced the HDD to just one Mac OS Exteneded (Journaled) partition with the same kext and the install finished! then i got the "still waiting for root device" error, i tried many of the troubleshooting techniques in the "still waiting for root device" sticky thread. but still nothing, i tried booting in -X -V, -F -V, rd=disk0s1 -v, and none of them worked however i later worked out that it was actually disk0s2 that i was supposed to be trying to boot from but i had already reformatted my disk at this time :@
4th Time:
It froze at 2mins of install remaining AGAIN! even though i only had the one Mac OS Exteneded (Journaled) partition. Then i got fed up and went to sleep.
5th Time:
I tried again, and now when i put my install disk in i get this error before it enters even the install setup:
Debugger called: <panic>
Backtrace, format - frame: return address (4 potential args on stack):
7 messages with just jibberish like: 0x5bc9bda8: 0x12b0e1 (0x457a2c 0x5bc9bddc 0x1332a3 0x0
No mapping exists for frame pointer 0xbfffff78
backtrace terminated - invalid frame pointer
BSD proccess name corrosponding to corrent thread: launchd
Mac OS Version:
Not yet set
Kernal Version:
Darwin Kernal Version 9.1.0
I dont know what to do, i get that same error with both Leo4all install disks i have, im lost now. can someone please offer some guidance?
Thank-you

Woo i finally got through, i read some other posts they just said its luck, so i kept trying and it installed! then i got the "still waiting for root device" error AGAIN! and so i decided i would try to switch the connectors on the motherboard around and it worked. WTF? yeah i know. and then being an Intel Hack i thought i could update it, but then it froze while trying to update to 10.5.3 through the standalone installer i got from apples website and it killed my system. i knew i should of backed it up now i have to go through it all again! does anyone know why the installer froze even though im using intel?
please someone help, no one has said anything in regards to this thread, i would really like your feedback.
Cheers

personally i would go the vanilla route on this new system here a quick description of how to do it. Its really easy if you already have a working set up.
http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/bare-naked-install-on-phenom-t1661/page5.html
the issues your having seem to be config related so the first place i would check is the bios and really scrutinize how its set up switch off all devices you dont need or could possible prevent a successfull install. Turn of all com/serial ports etc.

wait, so will this fix the issue of my system freezing while updating? and im using an intel machine so shouldnt ot work without putting the voodoo kext on? oh and umm im not very good with the whole bios thing. so if i post all my bios options and stuff would you be able to tell me what i should set them to?
Cheers and THANKS for the reply :D

How do I go about installing kexts on a retail install. Because I can't access my system as I don't have my graphics drivers installed. So do I have to do it via terminal in the install disc? And what are the commands to do that?
Cheers

by booting with the option of -x (safemode) you should be able to run in standard vesa modes. This would allow you to make any changes to a retail thats been restored to a hardrive

thanks for the reply man :) umm but now i have a weird problem dont know what it is. i got the Mac OS X Retail 10.5.6.dmg image however it would not burn on my current OS X build so i converted it to .iso via disk utilities and burned it to a dual layer disk via my XP system, it loads fine when i put it in my computer and i am logged in. however when i try to boot from it it just hangs and never boots from the DVD any ideas?

please re-read what i have previously wrote. Have you read the link? It doesnt mention burning the disk if you have an existing install and a spare drive or partition this is a unneeded step. You can restore the image to a hardrive or partition and then install osx in about 6mins. This method is fast and easy due to voodoo kernel. Personally i would steer clear of 10.5.6 unless needed for your graphics card as there is no matching kernel produced by voodoo yet

This project will now be called the Lawless Project :D if i get this working it will be all thanks to him and his help. he has been so helpful to me :) thanks bro, your the best! :)
oh and i didnt know what was wrong still couldnt figure out why it was hanging at the "mDNSResponder[22] couldn't read user specified local hostname, using default bMacPro.localb instead" so i reformatted my disk :O and i reinstalled it. took about 10mins :P i love having the image on my hard drive, i put the kext's back in, fixed the permissions and now it hangs at not only that but i get more errors after :P it says:
kextd[9] : IOKitWaitQuiet ( ) timed out waiting to write kernel
configd[33] : InterfaceNamer: timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesce
configd[33] : no network interfaces, could not update platform UUID
configd[33] : Could not establish network configuration : Success!
lol dont know why they would put success in the message when it DOESNT BOOT GRR :)
any help would be great, cheers.

okay :) i think i worked out what i am going to do :) ill install Leo4All because at least that will BOOT :) and then i will delete kexts one by one, and then when my system doesnt boot ill know i have deleted a vital kext, and i will record all the vital kexts, copy them over to a memory stick, then do a retail install and install these vital kexts and hopefully it will work :D what do people thing? will this work, because its going to be a long process. So if you know an obvious reason why it wont work please tell me so i dont waste my time :)
Thanks

i have decided to conclude my Intel osX86 journey as it seems to be much more work then i expected and i seem to only be able to get a running distro if i use a osx86 distro and i cant do a retail install on it. what makes it even more frustrating is that i cant even do intel OS X updates on my intel machine! with the retail vanilla kernel it freezes and with the latest voodoo kernel once i update and reboot it hangs at the blacklisting personalities "Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X" i dont know if this is because i am using standalone updates to get to 10.5.5 instead of the combo update but ive given up.
Even when i did have a working 10.5.2 distro working the sound drivers and ethernet drivers which were supposed to be designed for P35 motherboards didnt work!
So now im on a mission to get my AMD machine working as well as i can until i buy myself an iMac atm my main problems are my ethernet and my sound drivers, if anyone could help me ide be greatly appreciative, i have an nForce 4 motherboard and according to the booklet i have a sound card running ALC850 Codec and onboard lan called a "VITESSE 8201 phy" if anyone knows which kexts i need to make this work i would be extremely greatful. At the moment i have an ALC850 kext running but it doesnt work very well, the sound cuts out sometimes when i pause iTunes and only works after i toggle the mute button and even that doesnt work sometimes and i have to restart my computer, and my ethernet freezes my computer sometimes as well, im using either the "nForcEthernetDriver" or "Forcedeth" its been so long since ive tried to get it to work i forgot which ones i installed.
I hope someone will be able to help me :D

Just a quick post regarding your Q6600 box, almost the same config as mine. Only thing is a slight difference in the mobo. My rig is working flawlessly. What is causing you troubles ?

i really dont know, ive been working closely with lawless and we havent been able to solve the problem, it just hangs at this mDNSResponder message saying couldnt find some name using default MacPro-00000000 well actually there are 4 messages which slightly differ, but they all have mDNSResponder and are all about not being able to find something and using the default MacPro-00000000 or something like that. he thinks its got something to do with dsmos but ive checked all the permissions like a million times and i cant see whats wrong

Hey!
I just read me thought your thread.
Funny, because I didn't expecriance these issues with my board, even if it's the same as yours. Is this because you try with a retail Leopard DVD?
I never tried with that, right now I almost can say I tried everything from A to Z. I just grabbed Leo4All and iPC....after this post I will burn those and try them.
How are you with installing so far?
Btw. I write you 2 PMs....if you might have the chance would be nice if you could reply. Thanks! ;)
