Download the 10.5.6 combo update, and make sure to not let it install /mach_kernel. Also don't let it overwrite any kexts you may need to have your system up and running.
It's pretty simple, really.

Could you give me some more detailed help with that? im really new at this.

Backing up you Extensions Folder
1. Give yourself root privileges so that you can modify files.
sudo -s2. Make a backup copy of your kexts. First we will make a directory called "backup" in our root directory to store them. Open Terminal and type:
mkdir /backup3. Change directories to /System/Library This will shorten some of the commands we have to type in.
cd /System/Library4. Copy your kexts to the new "backup" folder.
cp -r Extensions/ /backup
Backing up your kernel
1. Make a backup copy of your existing kernel and name it mach_kernel.backup
cp -r /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.backup

Please provide us with some specifications about your system (CPU, Motherboard, Graphics & Model Number if applicable). Adding more specific information allows us to respond quickly with more precise answers. Chipset, LAN, Audio & If your Graphics are integrated or not, are excellent additions.
You can also place this information in your "Signature". It will then appear on every post you make. How to edit your signature: http://www.infinitemac.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_user_profile#faq_vb3_signatures_av atars

You really should post your actual specs on the forum and placing them in your signature would be even better. It is much easier for you you do it once then all of us to have to look it up each time we want to help.
Did you download the update from Apple's website or are you using the Software Update? If you have downloaded the update from the site and have backed up both of those files. You should be able to update following these directions. http://netkas.org/?p=50
If for some reason you are unable to boot. Use the boot-options:
-v mach_kernel.backup
When you start the computer up you see the Darwin Boot screen it will count down and by pressing the key indicated it will allow you to enter these options.
If this doesnt work post back with the last line it hangs on. You have backup copies which we can use under Single User Mode (Command Line) in case of emergency.

You don't have to. Restore everything that you backed up and you're ok.

thanks but that's alright. I'm just gonna use iPC 10.5.6 Final PPF4.
Any suggestions on what drivers I should install? All help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry, I haven't had enough time to add my specs to my signature. The link to my specs is right here http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/gateway-838gm-media-center/4505-3118_7-31576776.html

Do not select anything for Graphics as you will still get default graphics. Choosing the wrong option or multiple options will cause problems. Under chipset, if you are not sure which to choose you can choose all of them except those that conflict. So if there are multiple options with similar names just choose one. Choosing the bare minimum at the time of install will give you a much high chance of getting into OSX. It is much easier to fix issues from inside OSX.

thanks, how will i know which will conflict?
and just a random thought, if i installed the newest version of Macdrive, would I be able to salvage what's on my OS X HDD?
Oh yea and Am I allowed to name my OS X drive anything I want to with iPC? Just wondering because Leo4All said I could only call my HDD "osx", If so whats the default OS X hardrive name for REAL macs?

By conflicting I mean if there are multiple options with similar names just choose one. Only choose one VIA option, only choose one nForce option...
You could use Macdrive, or you could boot your install disk and copy the files to a thumb drive. Let me know i can explain how.
PS There is no need to "bump" this is a low volume forum so it would be some time before your thread moves down far enough where people forget about it.

Is it hanging in the same place? What is the last line?
xXrkidXx
04-09-2009, 01:12 AM
Instalation failed is my last line lol,
im guessing its because I'm choosing Intel GMA 900 for the video card? or Not choosing something for chipsets?
please help

Oh so your saying that its not even finishing the install. Iight.
One of the reasons could be because your Optical Disc Drive isn't supported.
This happened to me before and if I can remember correctly it was because I burned the DVD at to high of a speed.
xXrkidXx
04-09-2009, 01:21 AM
I used IMG Burn and the speed i used was AWS,(its a +R) should I just wipe the disc and burn at 6x? or slower? any help is always appreciate, would really love to have my Mac running tonight
lanceomni
04-09-2009, 01:49 AM
You are burning on a +RW or +R I would burn it to a non-rewritable +R or -R disk not an RW and burn at the slowest speed
xXrkidXx
04-09-2009, 01:52 AM
not rewritable, and the slowest speed is 1x lol, im going with 5x think that will be slow enough?
oneshot
04-09-2009, 02:18 AM
yeah 5x should definitely be slow enough. haha 1x would take like a day haha.
Hopefully it works this time!
When installing try and select as little as posable as lanceomni said.
Btw the first time I burned OSX it took me about 5 disks before I figured out how to burn my iso onto the disk correctly ^_^
Hopefully you don't follow my bad habits.

any ideas what im doing wrong? is my ISO bad? I burned at 5x...
lanceomni
04-09-2009, 01:10 PM
Well he is burning it correctly but it still looks like a disk issue. If 5x isnt working try 1x. Even if the disk checks out after you burn it may still give you problems.
As of now you can narrow it down to one of three things:
1. The burning of the disk
2. The source disk IMAGE
3. The media itself (though these days you would have to buy some pretty low end media for it to cause problems like these.
