So I have an IDE hardrive that is 57.3 GB.

Everytime I run Time Machine It fails. The message it leaves says "The Backup Volume Could Not Be Found"

My backup volume is on my desktop but its saying it cant find it?

Anyone have an idea?

Here are some pics.

I'm not using Time Machine, but on the most installation DVDs is a Time Machine Fix. Maybe you should try this?

Theres a time machine fix on which installation DVD?

If I back up OSx86 with time machine on a External HD then if OSx86 where to crash or become unusable and I reinstalled it then would I be able to restore everything with that time machine backup?

I'm using three harddisks in my system the first one (IDE) is only for the boot system, the second for data (documents, pictures, disk images, temporary files, downloads and whatever), and the third contains streming media like movies, DVD images and my iTunes music files.

My boot HD is splitted into three partitions: The main partition, A recovery partition which contains a second bootable system and a Shared partition which is used for .dmg backups and other system data. You can read more about this here (http://www.infinitemac.com/f19/guide-creating-a-very-safe-os-x-system-t1234/).

I don't see any sense in wasting a whole harddisk only for a Time Machine backup which may be useful in case of an important data loss, and this isn't happening every day. In my case I only have to backup the home/library folder sometimes and my iTunes database, I wouldn't loose more data even if a complete reinstallation would be neccessary. And this is also nearly unneccessary because I can repair my main partition always with my recovery partition.

There is also a Time machine fix via EFI string in EFI studio (Ethernet).
It tells the I/O device tree that ethernet is built in. That fixes the problem often without changing kexts.
