Then don't upgrade for a while. It's not like you have a pressing reason to update

Check here for a brief summary of the iPC 10.5.7 upgrade: Click (http://www.infinitemac.com/f39/mac-os-x-10-5-7-released-t2844/post26376.html)

Also, if you've a GeForce 5x00 (NOT QUADRO FX), you need to make sure you DO NOT INSTALL the 10.5.7 NVIDIA KEXTS, and make sure to NOT INSTALL THE NEW COREGRAPHICS FRAMEWORK. You need the 10.5.5 versions installed to keep using those cards and continue to have acceleration.

A little confusing the instructions. Can you dumb it down a bit? :)

It's actually dumbed down. To get experience, you should learn it.

Hara Taiki, so the kexts which I don't need along with the 10.5.7 kernel, I just remove them from the package using Pacifist and then install it?

You can expand the drop down directories and choose each one individually (hold command and click to select more than one file to install). But I'm pretty sure that if you don't select those kexts I listed, you should be ok. My system is far from vanilla and it's running fine.

What is the SMBIOS file you are referring to? Where is it located?

cmdshft

AppleSMBIOS.kext

I have to use a non-vanilla one and I can't use any special SMBIOS kexts like the EFI one or similar enablers, so I have to make sure not to overwrite mine otherwise when I use About This Mac my system logs me out. It's a common issue on legacy motherboards like mine.

Pacifist is giving me a message saying that a Budle already exists. Am I suppose to select Replace or Update option? Sorry I have not updated using Pacifist before.

Your EP45-UD3R is one of the most compatible boards.

10.5.7 works now native on ICH10 (P45/X58...), I only neeed the LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext to avoid the orange drive icons.
Also had to switch back to 10.5.6 sound, for the time being. :)

My test iPC partition works well, as same as my main retail 10.5.6+10.5.7 delta EFI partition setup.

Did ur samba keep working, printer drivers, etc?

When I had 10.5.3 to 10.5.4 I lost samba, it never worked back

and I cant use a vanilla kernel too

so if u confirm I will do it again via pacifist

I don't use samba. Printers still worked, though.

You can update.

Hi.
I have acer extensa 5620 laptop.

After upgrade to 10.5.7 i have no sound.
In System Preferences ->sound ->there is no input devices found.
But before upgrade the sound was there.
I used ALC268(by Madtux)
How i fix it, or change back to 10.3.6 sound?

Thanks

Valentine

Depends of what the ALC268 solution consists of.
If it had a patched AppleHDA.kext then it got overwritten.
Just replace it back again and see.

How i do it?
Just overwrite old AppleHDA.kext to /System/Library/Extentions ?
Is it correct?

I didn't backup this folder. So i will install again and backup before upgrade.

Use the OSx86 tool of pcwiz. And read some more on the basics of whats going on. :)

See, without knowing what your doing you end up with wasting a lot of time on reinstalling and frustration.

Hello everyone, I just joined the forum and I found you all while searching for info on why the "other" forum was down :) Anyway, I upgraded from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 probably half a dozen times over the last few days and I finally got it somewhat usable. Right now I have 2 (possibly 3) issues so far.

1.) My ethernet adapter is not working (worked fine in 10.5.6, I'm using the Marvell 88E8056 controller).

2.) My sound does not work (before I tried updating the first time, I at least had stereo sound in 10.5.6 which was acceptable). Also, with this, before my first attempt at updating blew up, I was using ADI_AD2000b.pkg for my sound, and I was able to get stereo, but after trying this in 10.5.7, I get nothing, and no devices show up under the Sound options in the system preferences.

3.) File transfers over USB to an external hard drive are "slow" (seemed to be normal in 10.5.6 but didn't check with this particular drive, was planning on using it for Time Machine).

My audio adapter is not displayed in the list, but my motherboard is an Asus P5Q-E. My other specs are:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
4GB OCZ DDR2 800
1GB Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 (connected to a 42" 120hz Vizio with a DVI to HDMI cable)

If anyone can help me figure out at least the sound and network issue, I would be very appreciative. Also, I did a clean install with iPC 10.5.6 and updated using the combo update from Apple's website. For the record, I installed the latest Natit.pkg that was posted on Netkas.org to get video working (which did NOT work immediately following the update, I had a corrupted screen, but was able to get VESA when booting with the "-x" flag to get to safe mode). Thanks.
