First, what is the difference between the 10.5.7 update and the 10.5.7 Combo update?

Has anyone done the update yet and has it worked?

Any issues

A 10.5.7 update is the update from the last version (10.5.6) and a combo update is from an earlier version (f.e. 10.5.3).

I haven't tried to update yet.

hello all,
i have succsefully updated my iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 following the netkas method (the simple one). all i had to do is patch my sound again and that was it. System seems a little more responsive.

Successfully updated to 10.5.7 on IPC.

Used part of netkas instructions and did not have to textedit any files.

Just did the while command and ran update. 2 boots and done.

I have been running an iPC OSx86 PPF3 build in 10.5.6. Updated to 10.5.7 yesterday by Software Update. The update process resulted in 2 reboots.

System reports as Mac, System Version as 10.5.7, Kernel Version as Darwin 9.7.0

As far as I can tell everything works as it did before the update, except it did not sleep or shutdown/reboot and it reports the incorrect memory.

I notice that shutdown/reboot woks if I disable USB Legacy in the BIOS.

Thanks for the great build. (Y)

Didn't need to replace system.kext. Is there something special about iPC that makes it easy to update?

I managed to update to 10.5.7 on my quad core amd by installing the update, then installing the voodoo kernel before restarting.Had to install video drivers again to get back my quartz extreme on my 8660gts.But apart from that all is good.

I find it very interesting that some folks have had to re-install some kexts, have the Extra folder, etc., whereas for my install I did not have to do anything.

Is it just luck of the 'hardware' draw?

I forgot to download the delta and just updated via Software Update. The only problem I had was a minor graphics glitch on reboot. Reinstalled NVDarwin and everything works fine.

I updated my iPC via delta, restored my entire extentions folder and voodoo kernel from the older build (10.5.6), worked fine but oddly I needed the older finder from 10.5.6 as well. Still experimenting, looking for issues and have not overwritten my primary build yet.

Why restore the whole 10.5.6 extensions? Thats not really recommended unless you found some really serious troubles, it will probably cause more issues in the end.

Man I envy you guys who could just run the software update, I tried my luck with that one and couldn't boot at all, I had to restore a cloned partition I made a while back.

The netkas instructions are a little bit all over the place, with "either the easy method" or the old method - they are both completely different and a bit confusing, especially for mac noobs like me.

I don't really know how to install a kext - or what the extras folder refers to. Can please someone walk me through updating from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7?

Is it worth the hassle?

I updated my Dell E521 (iPC 10.5.6) via Software Update to 10.5.7, I had to reboot to the iPC DVD and copy over the mach_kernel (I made a backup before running the update), remove the "new" nVidia kexts and put back 10.5.5 via 9f23installer, removed AppleHDA.kext in favor of VoodooHDA.kext. Working well!
