My Hack is reporting an incorrect CPU speed to the "About This Mac" screen under 10.5.7. My system has a Core 2 Duo e8500 running at stock, non-OC. My Mobo is a Gigabyte EP35-DS3P, and I'm currently running iPC 10.5.7 (upgraded through 10.5.7 combo update). Vanilla kernel.

Originally, the CPU was not recognized at all. However, I ran the OSX86Tools Autodetect CPU function, and the CPU speed was detected (incorrectly) as a "4Gz Intel Core 2 Duo e8500". The system is stable and running without problems... I'm wondering if the incorrect value that the system is reporting is indicative of a larger problem that I am unaware of.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah I am having the same problem, showing up as 4.1 GHz ATM.

UPDATE: Solved the problem with a SMBIOS edit.

That fixed the problem for me; my CPU speed is now reported correctly. What exactly did you do to get the CPU detected properly? And would this replacement kext fix other systems with modern Intel CPUs or is this specific to the Core 2 Duo e8500?
