MD5 Checksum: 61aae34354adc32f2d4b8737410899c4

The installation works fine on my system except the "temacs crash".
If the installation takes time in the last minute its because it does a "diskutil repairPermissions" on the install partition.
I've added the SystemProfiler fix (SPPlatformReporter, SPiPlatformReporter, SPMemoryReporter) and replace "translate" from 10.5.2 with the one from 10.5.1 (multiple crash with multiple apps).
The extensions folder in the DVD has been deleted.
I will write a howto to add kexts in the DVD (if you need to).

Please don't blame me if it doesn't work on your system. It takes time just to make it stable on mine ...

Further updates will be ppf or mpkg files.

No.
The speed depends only on your connection to the net

DoiX
02-16-2008, 08:33 PM
yes there are speed differences with utorrent i have 200kb/s from mininova, azureus 60 kb/s (same torrent)

WinLinMac01
02-16-2008, 08:37 PM
could be because of less allocation of memory resources.

I personally don't like the Idea either.

FTP -> Torrent -> Newsgroups -> Public Backup Storage (like esnips)

Why not like that? There are better ways to spread the image to the public!

WinLinMac01
02-16-2008, 10:02 PM
is there anyway the newsgroups can later become available in torrent format, or is it not possible? seems like Zephyroth is going to be leaving on his system for a pretty long time, how pointless is that, save your time zephyroth and please use uTorrent to create a torrent and upload online so we all can download at the same time, thanks.

Sorry, I'm "spilling the beans" - I just stumbled across the upload

alt.binaries.mac.cd-images

for those of you who haven't discovered it already.

It's yEnc so what do I use as a newsgroup reader? MS Entourage won't decode yEnc will it?

On my news server it's up to "part019.rar" there are 154 segments in each "part"... Haven't seen how many total "parts" - 10.5.1 was 72, wasn't it? Probably more than that...

Newsgroups aren't hard. I've never used them but I managed to find the upload as well.

First you want to verify you have usenet access...I'd first check to see what your ISP offers, though chances are it's slow and a tiny bandwidth limit.
You can obtain it from several places pretty cheaply (I got 20gb or 30 days for $10)
I choose Easynews but like I said I signed up today so I'm unsure how they compare - seemed like a fair price and decent reviews. I make no warranties or claims - I've also heard of GIganews and Usenext. Know nothing about them.

Next you need a client. Some mail clients handle binary downloads better than others. I'm actually using a trial of Forte Agent. It seemed pretty complicated to me at first but I'm figuring it out. I've downloaded 18 parts already...

Anybody that has more experience can probably help more. I just wanted to help someone get started. I didn't think it would work out but...yay initiative!

I'm also new into this, just like you but here is my little "tutorial" to get things working (PC users only, don't know about MAC users)

1 - Download one program called GrabIt at "http://www.shemes.com"
2 - Go to "http://astinews.de/xtest" and put your e-mail there to receive an server username and pass to connect to usenet (it is a free account but will do the job)
3 - Check your e-mail and take note of your Reader, Username and Password that you received from astinews
4 - Install GrabIt and use the infos from astinews to start usenet
5 - Inside GrabIt, go to GrabIt Usenet Search and search for "alt.binaries.mac.cd-images" and add it to your list...
6 - After that, still in GrabIt go to Articles and at the end of the list you'll see the files to download... just right click them and "Grab Selected Articles"

If you have questions, go to mIRC... There you'll find a lot of good people that helped me with all this...

Oh shoot. let me try that right now, thanks.

7th: revhawk:Newsgroups aren't hard.

Tutorial for Mac:

1. Download Unison (http://www.panic.com/unison/)
2. Go to "http://astinews.de/xtest" and sign up for a Free Account
3. Check your E-Mail
4. Install Unison and enter the Login information that you received to your E-Mail by Astinews
5. Search for the Newsgroup "alt.binaries.mac.cd-images" and add it
6. Search for the files by zephyroth and start downloading :)

I am totally confused. Where's an Idiot's guide to usenet when you need one. Lol.

I created an account in http://astinews.de/xtest. I then download a bunch of programs like Newsbin Pro, UsenetGrab, Binjet, and Grabit. Couldn't get any program to work with it. I then found a free newserver called Dissenter (http://www.disenter.com) and I couldn't get any program to work with that as welll. I know I am doing something wrong, so if anyone out there has anything for me I would really appreciate it. If not, I will just have to wait for the torrents (something I can actually download :) And if some people think that I am just writing this because I am too lazy to look this up, I am not, I have looked for this for about 3 hrs.

Thanks, A lot to everyone and thanks goes to you Zeph for finishing your masterpiece.

30 parts buddy

ZEPHYORTH, can you also list the file sizes for each part as you upload them? I just to make sure that I am downloading the actual file(S). THanxs or if someone else wants to help please do so. :D

zephyroth:The installation works fine on my system except the "temacs crash".

Don't blame me if it doesn't work on your system. It takes time just to make it stable on mine ...

Further updates will be ppf or mpkg files.

They're made up of 152 "messages" which are each about 325KB. So one "part" of the .rar (archive) is about 50MB. Your newsreader holds the "files". Some newsreaders combine and decode the messages automatically and save the "attachments" as files. Sometimes you have to do that manually once the newsreader has downloaded all the messages that belong to a certain "part". In the end the newsreader should have all the individual .rar files that made up the upload. You then use an unarchiver to assemble the .rar's and build the .iso file inside them...

WinLinMac01
02-17-2008, 05:23 AM

@WinLinMac
I doubt that's correct. The tools that most people use to create the ".rar" parts and carve everything up & yEnc them in a suitable fashion to be uploaded properly and consistently to newsgroup messages are pretty consistent. Just looking at the messages, they all seem pretty close to the same size and every "part" consists of 152 messages. All the "...partxxx.rar" 's should be pretty much the same size.

Dont know what the big deal is. But the newsgroups are the fastest and cheapest bandwidth there is. i get 1.5megs on my server. When the torrent gets up on tbp or anywhere else it will be chugging along with all the lechers and I bet dollars to doughnuts no one that doesn't know how to use usenet has access a oc192. Also about 28 and 29 they are partly uploaded 28 is missing 41 of its 152 parts: 95 97 98 101 103 104 106 107 108 109 110 111 112 113 114 115 116 117 118 119 120 121 122 123 124 125 126 127 128 129 130 131 132 133 134 135 136 137 138 139 140

And 29 is missing 18 of its 152 parts: 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 18 35 36 49 50 59 63 64 66 67

Be patient it will be up before tomorrow.

If you take a peek in one of parts, you can see that iso is as big as 4.4GB which is a full DVD.... 4,7GB is labeled on discs because manufacturers tend to count 1MB = 1000b and if you count it as 1024b as normal, you'll get that DVD is 4,4GB
