This is on a Dell Optiplex 745 with Q965 chipset (ICH8).

HDA Intel : 00:1b.0 0403:8086:284b

I have the linux codec dump (attached). Does anyone have this working ? I have looked all over insanelymac, even tried Taruga's patcher. I can see that sound properties in system preferences show Intel HD Audio output (no input), but I have no sound (since the headphones etc. are not supported), no matter the volume level.

Messing around with the various plists has made matters worse (I had it showing a brief text in system profiler, but then tried to code in my device id in HDAEnabler.kext.).

Any ideas ? Working kexts would be ideal, but any way of fixing this on my own would be a great substitute as well.

Thanks.

I don't believe that Intel HD is supported with Taruga's patcher. You could try VoodooHDA: http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/

Here's another thread on the issue: http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/new-voodoohda-intel-high-definition-audio-driver-t2585/

uman,

That worked perfectly. I even left the Azalia audio in there.

The system profiler does not show anything. The sound effects cannot be enabled (I just have a greyed out pull down list), but they seem to work. I just checked if I could hear the trash being emptied. It does.

Devices are listed in the sound preferences.

That was a gem. Listening to WGBH over iTunes as I write this :)

Hi

Thanks for helping my sound work. The microphone does not work. I can see the volume controls and the devices under input devices, but no sound appears. I have tested it using ichat, as well audacity. No sound makes it.
