View Full Version : Do I need Efi to run 10.5.6 or higher?

Hi, folks!

I have some question: I am currently onto OS X 10.5.5 (installed via "iAtkos v4 10.5.4") and like to update to 10.5.6 or maybe 10.5.7

I got my eyes onto this guide (http://ihackintosh.blogspot.com/2008/12/must-know-before-updating-osx86-from.html) - there is the instruction to install PC_Efi v9 before updating to avoid getting in trouble with AppleRTC.kext

My problem is that I can run Leopard only by using the normal Darwin x86 Bootloader in combination with a Kernel prepared by ToH.
Darwin Efi and other Kernels (I tried a lot: Voodoo, Modbin, Kabyl, sleep and so on) all did'nt work for me - my system just used to reboot immediately after loading the Kernel.
Just the combination above worked flawless.
Currently I am on Stage XNU 9.4.0 (ToH based Kernel) which works fine, also.

So my main question: Is it realy necessary to have PC_Efi or Chameleon to run 10.5.6 or higher?

Thanks!

If it ain't broke why fix it?
Why would you want to up date everything works now. higer versions will give more trouble and you can fake it. simply by text edit in you software version. this will allow you to install software that needs a higer version seposedly..

the ancer is yes you nead a higer version but beleave me when i say 10.5.7 is a real dog no one neads that update even breaks intel vanilla installes and even some real mac installations. if you want to fix the appleRTC you nead dsdt patching and only chamelion version 1.11+12 with dsdt overide/ 2.0/2.1 or efi studio v9with dsdt overide/ 10 . you do know you dont have to fix it these days.

Maybe you're right with your attitude onto updates, as my only reason to update was the wish to have the latest version up and running. :D ;)

Anyway thanks for answering my question.
I think I'll stay onto 10.5.5 - As neither PC_Efi nor Chameleon is working for me, I don't have the choice at all. :-/

no, you don't need efi to run 10.5.6 or 10.5.7.
and i would be surprised if 10.5.8 would be any different.
