Excuse my noobness, just started using OS X about 3 weeks ago. Loving it so far. I used a guide to help install iAtkos v7 on my intel hackintosh. I'm using the Voodoo 9.7 kernel, what's the difference, or benefit to updating the kernel? What sort of features or improvements will it get me?

Thanks!

Apart from the improvements in the code that Apple has made it will include all Voodoo features as well as a built-in decrypter and Mac model override + Legacy AppleIntelClock driver for additional RTC support.
It is also in general a lot faster, especially in booting, than stock Voodoo kernel.

Andy, good to see you back in action and really appreciate this update.
That built-in decrypter feature is just great..hope you get well soon ^_^

Works fine here on AMD with 10.5.8.

Andy, have you planned to work on Snow Leopard kernels for non-Vanilla systems?

Yep... Sure will...
I also will want to run Snow Leopard and I've got a non-vanilla system so why not do it right?

I'm just downloading SL to test it on my AMD. Hope it will work with dmitrik's kernel.

Aug 17 02:35:49 localhost kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 == entry" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-171.1.2/AppleHDA/AppleHDAEngine.cpp" at line 2979 goto Exit

my sound is working but i lost my sleep.....

maybe i should using voodooHDA for my sound

Hi Andy and All, I tried your kernel and as you said it boots much faster than others, but I does not solve my Shutdown/Restart KPs.
If I boot with a vanilla kernel with cpus=1 (the only way to not get kp) Shutdown/Restart works.
But when I boot with any Voodoo 9.X Stock or Modded, I'm able to boot without the cpus=1 flag but I get KP at Shutdown/Restart.

After booting with your kernel I started to see this line while booting:
"macmodel" boot argument not found, Mac model set as "MacBookPro5,1"
I don't know if it's related to VoodooHDA or the kernel, but I'm sure that it appears only with AnV9.8.

Kernel Panic at Shutdown/Restart:

Hey Andy, great work with the kernel, it works like a charm without a decrypter.

My system is a lot faster than it was with Qoopz kernel but i'm noticing that the hard drive light is always ON and i can't figure out why. My SATA driver is the AppleVIAATA.kext v0.2 from the darwin-ata project and i'm running 10.5.8 with a ASUS P4V800D-X and a P4.

Thanks, works good for me so far. Even iWork '09 doesn't crash randomly at start anymore, as it did on Qoopz 9.8.0 :)
The only problem is that I get a kernel panic at shutdown, which didn't happen on Voodoo 9.5.0 (photo (http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/7555/64810980.jpg))

Hey Andy,

Any luck in getting a fix for more than 4 gigs of RAM and AMD? I really hate having to use maxmem=4096 when I have 8 gigs at my disposal. Thanks.

Dear All;

I installed AnV 1.6 9.8.0 kernel hoping to have debug breakpoints working on XCode, but no success. I'm desperate looking for this solution. Andy or any other can point me out where/how to solve this issue.

I'm running iPC 10.5.6 upgrade to iDeneb Combo 10.5.8 on a

AMD X2 ATHLON
MOBO ECS Nettle Chipset NVIDIA MCP61
2GB RAM
8600GT

Thanks in advance for any help or tipo you provide me.

When I installed the kernel, the only problem I had was Sleep. I am currently using 9.6 v1.4 and I can get 10.5.8 to sleep. However, when I installed this kernel on my 10.5.8, I lost that. When I would command the mac to sleep through the finder, the monitor and hard drive would kick off but the computer would remain running and I could not get out of the semi-sleep. That was the only problem I ran into. Other than that everything was great. I rolled back to 9.6 v1.4 though.

Edit: never-mind, i figured it it myself!! :D

I still need to do some work on the kernel but I'll have it ready soon.
The only problem is that there is no hacked snow leopard install yet and I can't run vanilla.
The first release will thus be without built-in dyld.
I'll get to it after upgrading to snow...
Give me a couple of weeks because right now I'm looking for a studio to rent (around 250€ monthly...).
I'll get back to it though because I've tested Snow on a genuine Mac and it rocks!
I'll surely want to upgrade my little hackbook.

Thats good news Andy :)
What do you mean with no hacked snow leopard install?
Modbin has released a kernel which works on non vanilla?
Good luck :)

Hi Andy;

No I don't think so because of the trapping routines (trap.c)
They have a little modification to filter out certain traps (to avoid KP on AMD)

Thanks Andy...please, do you know any kernel that I could use to have breakpoints resource on 10.5.X series over AMD?

Hi guys,

Since there will probably be no more kernel update for leopard, I decided to give this mod kernel a shot since it is supposed to be more optimized than the stock kernel.

What I did was I backed up the stock kernel and copied over the AnV kernel to /root. Everything booted up fine and is working fine so far except somehow the Model Identifier was overridden to MacBookPro5,1 instead of MacPro3,1 as I set in the smbios.plist.

I believe this is a rather minor issue and most likely cosmetic, but I am still curious to find out why this is happening. Is there something missing that I did not do?

Many thanks in advance.

EIDT: I tried modify com.apple.boot.plist with no success

<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1680x1050x32</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>"Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32"</string>

Even with the parameter set at the SMBIOS.plist

Is there a solution yet?
