Is it possible to insert a kext into an iso solely from xp???

Hey everybody,

I have been trying to install Leopard for a while but have been stumped so far as no matter what I do the distro's I have tried (iPC 10.5.6 as well as iAtkos 10.5.7) have been unable to mount my HDD's. They are visible in disk utilities of the installer but are greyed out and I'm unable to format or install onto them.

Having read about it seems my chipset may not be supported. I am not sure if this is definitely the issue but I would like to try and patch the relevant kext/ppf for my chipset and see if this resolves it. However, most of the guides to using kexts or PPF's seemed designed for people with osx86 up and running in some form, which I don't have. I read that maybe you could do it using VMWare but I wanted to find out if there is definitely not a way just to patch my distro iso in windows and try to boot again.

I have tried extensively to research and fix this before coming on here, but most of the guides I've seen either don't work for me or are just plain contradictory. For example when trying to just paste my kext file into system/library/extensions, none of the iso programs such as ISObuster or transmac want to let me do it, even when I run them as administrator. Is this because I'm working with a kext file rather than PPF?! What's the difference? I'm so confused!

So, to reiterate, my main question is can I actually patch an iso with a kext for my iso in XP or am I wasting my time? I'd really, really appreciate someone taking the time to reply, even just to let me know if I'm heading down a dead-end. yup it's possible... with Transmac that is... find yourself Transmac and you can edit iso's / distro's within XP...

However, as I mentioned I have tried and failed to patch my ISO from Windows with Transmac, MagicISO and ISOBuster. Is it really just a case of copying and pasting kext into system/library/extensions?

What I have is a .kext file for my chipset which appears as a folder on my windows desktop, is this what needs to be pasted?

-Any ideas why these ISO programs wouldn’t be allowing me to make the change? Is it because it’s a .kext file and not a ppf? If someone could clear that up for me I’d be made up!:)

I don't really recall it precisely but - yes - I think I also copied the entire folder to the iso and it overwrites those files... doesn't help you very much if Transmac's not working - does it... :/ I also remember that I had to fiddle with Transmac for a while before it started doing it's thing with me either... maybe read a manual or so for Transmac... :D it should work though... :rolleyes:
