TImeMachine not working 10.5.7

I wanted to do incremental backups of my system drive, but every time I try to configure TimeMachine to use a drive for backup I get this error message: "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found." I did some snooping around the net and came up with a possible solution. It had something to do with the IONetworking.kext.

I do believe there is a "fixed" kext to replace the one I currently have. I am still searching for it, but have had little luck locating it. Now I have no clue if not having quartz extreme or core image activated on my video card would have anything to do with it, but I also read that it has to be in order for time machine to work properly. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

suggestion use efistudio, select your network and make sure you write this on your boot.plist other option google netkas ionetworkingfamily fix for ionetworkingfamily.kext hopefully that should solve it

Okay will give that a whirl and see what comes of it. Sure would like to get this working, just in case. Will post my results as soon as I get it sorted.

Oh man I read some of the posts on this subject and in order to fix my issue I have to do some things that I am way not qualified to do. There has to be an easier way to do incremental updates, maybe with a third party software application?
Any ideas?

Okay I ran EFIstudio and picked my on-board nic and it created an EFI string. Now this is the part that is confusing to me. Am I supposed to save the Hex code created in EFI and manually install it into my boot.plist file or can I just simply allow the program to write the code into the file itself? It does have an option allowing the string to be written into the boot.plist file. Guess I can back my old one and try it, but I want to make sure I will be able to access it if the system crashes during boot.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

in efistudio
once you see your hex code for your ethernet, you will have the option to write this to your boot,plist. do so and the newly adjusted boot.plist is located in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist
now you can copy this file to your /Extra (located it the root) folder if you have one
reboot
and ofcourse always always back up any files you modify

Hmmm....I was looking in my root and found no folder called "extra", so now I have an issue as to where I am going to plug in this newly created boot.plist. I am afraid if I modify the one that is already present I may botch the entire install.

Any ideas ?

As you installed using iAtkos 5i, I guess you're using either PC_Efi v9 or Chameleon v1 those don't make use of /Extra directory, so it's OK to stay with the plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ :)
Make a back-up before you modify it and you're ont the safe side. ;)

Yes I am using PC_Efi v9, so you are correct that it does not utilize the extra folder. Okay I will do a backup of my boot.plist and allow the program to modify my boot.plist file. Wish me luck, this should be interesting.

Okay that seemed to work..system is backing up as I type. Will not be totally convinced until I need to recover from some sort of catastrophe, but in the mean time I do feel a bit more confident.
To bad this trick does not work for my video card, then maybe I can once again have a fully functional OS with all the bells in whistles. Still no answer for my QE/CI support, but that is for another day.

Hmmm...well I spoke to soon, the system became unresponsive after just 2.5 Gigs of the backup completed. Not sure what caused the system to lock up, but I am checking my crash logs to see if there is anything useful in there to lead me to a conclusion. Anyone else having this problem? Feel free to share what you experienced with this issue.
