Still Waiting For Root but have I installed the right kernels/drivers etc - HELP!!!

Hi Guys

I've installed iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 Final on a 160gb Sata Hard Drive (I have another 160gb Sata running windows and another 500gb SATA as a storage drive for windows - i have my music/movies etc on that one) and I'm getting the "Still Waiting for Root" message.

I;ve tried the suggestions posted at the top of the forums (rd=disk0s2; platform=x86pc etc etc) but I still get the message.

My main concearn here is that I've installed the wrong drivers or havent installed something vital and this could be causing the problem. I left the chipset drivers empty as I dont have a clue what chipset I have, I just know what the moptherboard is (full system spec is in my signature!); aside from that I just installed the Darwin Nvidia 512mb driver and a few of the applications. I left all the USB/ethernet stuff alone as again I dont know what i need.

Could this be the problem or is there another glaring error I've made here?

I'm really new to all this and hate to ask for help but I'm at the end of the road as far as ideas go and really need a helpful person to show me the light!

I've attached a screenshot of the boot log which may help one of you geniuses out there.

Any help is much appreciated guys.

In your bios try switching SATA to AHCI mode.

If that's not possible, try to select nForce Chipset driver.

(I should be very surprised, if nForce 780i would support AHCI...)

OK; no options for AHCI in the bios; I'm going to try a reinstall using Nvidia chipset drivers.

Any other ideas????

OK; I've deleted the previous install and started from scratch; this time I used the nvidia chipset driver as well as the nvidia darwin driver.

The screen now sticks in a different place and I'm no longer getting "still waiting for root"; it does still seem to be the same problem though (the screen just freezes and the machine fails to complete the boot) :'(

Should i try installing iATKOS v7 10.5.7 instead??????

Well you are getting is a Kernel Panic and it's caused by that Chipset driver I told you to use....

As you can take from my sig I don't have any experience with that, but I have heard that this driver causes problems on machines with bigger RAM size...

So you might try if it helps to reduce it with using the "maxmem=" boot parameter...

Otherwise you can of course give a try to latest iAtkos, since it's a newer release it might work better. :)

Ah OK.

Well......I've tried the maxmem thing and no dice with that; in actual fact I've checked and the chipset driver I'm using (AppleNForce) has been patched for systems with over 4gb. Even so I;ve reinstalled ipc and get the same messages (with or without maxmem).

I'm downloading iAtkos now but i'm starting to lose hope here. :(

NB: I checked the bios again and although I dont have an AHCI option I do have ACPI enabled on the bios and no way of disabling it as the option is greyed out (I dont even know what ACPI is to be honest so ingore this if I'm being a total noob; it's just a similar anacronym to AHCI so thought it worth mentioning ).

OK; bad news. I cant even get iAtkos DVD to boot; I get the still waiting for root message again...
