Evening all, unbelieveably new to all of this, i used to have an iBook running tiger, it came of that age and the screen and GPU died recently, but im being donated (semi kindly) the aformentioned acer aspire, and have a Retail DVD of Snow Leopard, being totally in love with OSX, macbooks, my iPhone (when it works ) but the worst person ever at tracking my money :D

I've been reading through the forums for the last couple of days solid, searched, searched and searched again, couldn't find anyone who has the same laptop as im aquiring, closest model number has an AMD chip, closest spec is miles off.

From looking through the online specs for the model and family the most perfect match is a 5735-4624, though it may have a different size hard drive to the spec, as per the nature of the donator.

As i said before im completely inexperienced in kexts and the like, but im an incredibly fast learner with more common sense than money (until it comes to handling money) and would like to have a nicely specced laptop dual booting the Vista Home that its going to come with to run my windows only apps and with Snow Leopard to run my music recording apps.

I have access to pen drives, external hard drives etc of varying sizes and numerous other laptops and desktops, though no Macs are accessible.

Specs are
Processor 2.0GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 Memory 2GB at 667MHz Hard drive 160GB, 5,400rpm Graphics Intel GMA 3400MHD (integrated) Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium Screen size (diagonal) 15.6 inches

Thats all the info i can find on it.

Any help, im not expecting a full blown, switch it on plug this in, tutorial, but pointers, things to watch out for, things i should definetely not do, suggestions etc would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Shealesy -

First you must be informed that the Acer 5735 uses the GMA4500 graphics chip - which isn't supported in OS X. Moving beyond this here are the steps:

Use a distro (I recommend iDeneb for the 5735) to create a working copy of Leopard on a portable drive. You'll need to customize the install to support PS2 keyboard, ICHx Fix, Firewire remove, and I believe ACPI Kext 10.5.6. Don't waste time on sound or networking. Repair permissions, boot verbose, and cross fingers.

Now if you're adding Snow Leopard to an existing Windows drive, you need to disk image your Snow Install DVD and replace the installer package with a hacked version that support MBR partition schemes. If you like to start fresh and have a Windows install disk without all of the manufacturer's crapware, use Apple's disk utility to reformat your hard drive with the GUID scheme. When you create a Windows partition (in FAT), disk utility sets it up so Windows will recognize it and install (after it reformats partition to NTFS).

Next, locate the X58 Mojo Patch Installer for Snow Leopard. This will walk you through the steps, and there are a several guides that use this great tool. Search for kexts to support your non-Mac hardware, and grab OSX86 Tools to help install and tweak!

Good Luck!
