Hello, I got a request by email to show those people with MSI x58 motherboards.
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/4914/81547085.jpg

I have the Core i7 920, but the whole i7 range should work.

First off, I would recommend an install of Leopard 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 (iPC works best)

Once you have it basically installed, you should get the Snow Leopard DVD or DMG.
Mount the DMG/Disk and type this into terminal:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

Go to /System/Installation/Packages.
Find and run OSInstall.mpkg.
Install it on a separate partition or hard drive.
If you installed it and received an error, it's ok. (To avoid error, just restore the DMG to another partition or a USB stick, and mount from there.)

Next, install Chameleon RC3 onto the "SnowHDD" or whatever you called it.
You should get an Extra/Extensions folder on the main root of you Snow Hard Drive. Copy the Kext's there.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9977/screenshot20090914at345.png

Find the Kexts you need, which are listed here:
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/2298/screenshot20090914at335.png

Kexts can be found HERE! (http://cid-8b65993ef55cf014.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/OSx86/Snow%20Leopard?view=details)

Alternatively, I uploaded my kext pack, HERE. (http://www.fileden.com/getfile.php?file_path=http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/5/11/1070532/Extensions.zip)

The kext are:

FakeSMC.kext (v2 at Netkas' site.)
PlatformUUID.kext (http://heliacal.net/~solar/mac/PlatformUUID.kext_for_snow_64.tar)
IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext (http://cid-8b65993ef55cf014.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/OSx86/Snow%20Leopard/Drivers%20kext%20^5Sterowniki^6/==%20Other%20Peripheral%20Devices%20^5Inne^6%20==/IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext.zip)
Jmircon.kext (http://cid-8b65993ef55cf014.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/OSx86/Snow%20Leopard/Drivers%20kext%20^5Sterowniki^6/==%20Chipset%20-%20%20SATA%20^0%20IDE%20Controllers%20==/JMicronATA.kext.zip)
OpenHaltRestart.kext (http://cid-8b65993ef55cf014.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/OSx86/Snow%20Leopard/Fixy%20^5naprawiacze%20bledow^6/OpenHaltRestart.kext^_for^_snow^_64.tar)
NullCPUPM (I see no effect, Just increases boot time by 10 seconds... REMOVE IT.)

Get EFI strings (best results) for your Graphics Card.

The Ethernet should be working out of the box! (for x58 platinum SLI) If not, get the Realtekr1000.kext from that site listed above!

Create a DSDT.aml file and put it in your root! http://pcwizcomputer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=150&Itemid=48

Change your Main Hard drive to the snow leopard one in the BIOS. Boot into Snow, and boot with -v. If this fails, boot with the -x32 and -v.

As soon as you get in, it might fail and you might get a Kernel Panic. DON'T PANIC! Log on as FAST as you can, and either run Kext Utility, or run the BSD.pkg from the /System/Installation/Packages. After its done, reboot, and use Disk Utility. If you choose, Kext Utility, go as FAST as you can, and drop S/L/E into the Kext Utility icon and let it finish. It might panic, but after reboot, run it on E/E and reboot. No more panics!

Thank you for reading!

After having a bit of trouble initially from having the dmg on the same partition as the active running Leopard install I'm stuck after it installed successfully. I installed Chameleon and am now not able to get that install to successfully boot.

When running -x32 -v I notice a few lines of interest:

Error - kext net.osrom.kext.Disabler declares com.apple.kernel dependencies. Only com.apple.kpi.* dependencies are supported for 64-bit kexts.
Can't load kext net.osrom.kext.Disabler - failed to resolve library dependencies.
Kext net.osrom.kext.Disabler failed to load (0xdc00800e).
kxld[com.apple.driver.decrypt]: The Mach-0 file is malformed: Invalid magic numbeR: 0xfeedface.

and then later on the last line, at which it freezes, is:
JMicronATA

When running -v I notice the same lines, and it ends here:

netkas presents fakesmc, a kext which emulates smc device
in6_ifattach_linklocal: nd6_prelist_add failed 12
in6_ifattach: lo0 failed to attach a linklocal address.

Just tried with -x32 -v busratio=20 cpus=1 and I received this:

Hmm. What are the BIOS settings? DO you have the latest BIOS? Did you recieve that last panic in snow leopard or during boot?

In snow, you do not need Busratio=20 or CPUS=1 with a DSDT Patch

christopherl
09-15-2009, 04:17 AM
Received all of those during boot, the last was trying with -x.

BIOS settings are: HPET enabled, AHCI, Bit Execute disabled, Hyperthreading Enabled

Fantastic news! I just tried removing the JMicronATA kext and I'm able to boot into Snow Leopard, which is where I'm writing this post from. Things are running a bit slow, but I think that's because I haven't configured the graphics card (9800 GTX+) yet. Well, this is a great start, at least!

christopherl
09-15-2009, 05:22 AM
Latest update:

After figuring out how to use OSX86Tools to update the EFI strings for 9800 GTX+, I checked the Hardware Overview and noticed this:

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro2,1
Processor Speed: 2.71 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 6 GB
Bus Speed: 533 MHz

I'm running the i7 920, so that information seems like it's completely wrong. Am I missing something, or did that get screwed up somehow?

Does Sleep work on your board?

Everything else that I have tested works so far except sleep and mic/line in on sound (using voodooHDA.kext). I used a different install method using a retail install and Digital Dreamer's guide for Gigabyte:

Thanks!

Sleep shuts down my computer, do you have shutdown working though? Mine just reboots. Can you please send me your VoodooHDA and whatever you used to get integrated sound working?

gapple
09-20-2009, 11:56 PM
Shutdown works fine on my board. If your board is rebooting after shutdown then you need to change your "wake up events by" power settings in your bios from "Bios" to "OS" or fix the bios wake up event that is causing it to wake up on its own.

My sleep powers down USB and drives but does nothing else. Might be my video card or DSDT.

Attached is the voodoohda kext. Seems that 5.1 is not working nor is mic/line in on my board. Audio is broadcast the same on all channels rather than in surround mode after testing a movie trailer I have in surround. DSDT mods might be necessary to get this working past stereo.

Report back if you make any progress.

x986123, how did you make SL recogniz your Corei7? I successfully installed 10.6.1 on MSI X58, everything is fine, except my CPU is recognized as an unknown 4-core cpu...
Thanks,

x986123

It is recognizing your CPU, you just need to mod one file...

Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/AboutThisMac.strings

"ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "2.67 GHz Intel Core i7";

Hey guys,
I've been following the thread and had a quick question. I have a x58 MSI board and have everything working on it besides sleep. I've noticed that like myself, others have reported that when they go into sleep everything just completely shuts down. Has anybody found a solution for this? I appreciate you help.

Thanks

I don't know, you can try. Should work though. I am using *Generic* drivers. They are not made for the MSI x58 Platinum specificly, so they should work on yours too.

Hello!
My english is not good, I'm not american.

I have new computer, is similar to yours, but I have a problem.

I installed OSx86, when installing iATKOS v7 use this busratio=20 cpus=1 -v and the installer will start, but after reboot the system is loaded, but no progress...

Computer caracteristics:

i7 920 2.6
MSI X58 PLATINUM
ATI 4870 1g
6 gb ddr3

This is the CUSTOM:

- Kernel --> Voodoo 9.7.0 o vanilla
- SMBIOS' for x86 --> iMac
- ACPI --> X86 ACPI
- Drivers --> VGA --> ATI --> ATI HD
- Drivers --> system --> sata/ide --> AHCI
- Drivers –> Network –> wired –> Realtek –> RTL8201

I need one idea...

I found it, In the BIOS, set the sleep to S3 instead of S1. Wake from sleep by pressing the POWER button.

Hi,thank you so much for your thread which truly helped me a lot.

So far I got most things working, except the SLEEP. I placed the kext as the same as you did (with sleepenabler.kext). But no matter how I change the BIOS settings, when I click SLEEP,it just totally shuts down.

So if you could share your BIOS setting specifically, I'd really appreciate.

Also, how to test if the OpenCL is working? Because I install EFI strings for my GPU, but sometimes it still slows.

Thank you very much

Hey I have Msi x58 platinium sli board with a core 17 920 and I tired to install both iatkos 7 and ipc 10.6 and they both do the same thing.

I put the cd in

computer comes on it says press f8 for options. I do so then type -v so I can see whats happening. the mach kernals go and it when it goes to long the darwin/x86 bootloader the thing immediatly restarts the computer and then I'm back to where I started.

I updated my bios.

I tried fidgeting with settings in the bios.

I tired the retail install approach from the beginning. that was no luck.

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated

Heya x986123. I sold my old rig and now i'm in the process of building one similar to what you've got going on here. I'm a little curious on your GPU in your sig where it says SLI dual GTX 260. Do you actually have two of them? If so just curious on how you got them working. My impression from searching around is that you can't actually get an SLI setup to boost graphics performance in OS X, but you can get dual cards recognized and running dual monitors.

Hi x986123!

I went to the Apple Store to buy 10.6 (not bad at $29!) and followed your tutorial. It's been about a week and a half since I got the same mobo and i7 but can't get Snow10.6 to boot up after the install. I've followed your instructions and nothing. I checked the BIOS settings... Set to S3 Execute Bit Support = enabled, HPET = enabled.

So when I do your install (I can't get iPC 10.5.8 its nowhere to be found ) iAtkos v7 does not boot up after install and seems to panic at kernel loading on startup. I had much more success w/ XxX osx 10.5.6 I installed onto a SATA 2.5" It startsup but is very unstable, I'm using it as a platform to do my installs as you describe in the turtorial for 10.6 to ultimately have 10.6 on a SATA 3.5" 1.5Tb. (the 3.5" is in SATA1 and the 2.5" in the SATA2). I put into the com.apple.Boot.plist flags for

This is my setup:

Mobo: MSI x58 Platinum SLI
Processor: Core i7 920 2.6ghz
RAM: 6 Gb A DATA 1333mhz
Optical Drive: removable USB DVDROM
HD1: Seagate 1.5Tb SATA
HD2: Hitachi 160Gb SATA (2.5")
Video Card: Visiontek Radeon HD 4890 OC 1Gb

I sometimes get (and its seems random) that the BIOS doesn't want to load and the whole machine gets stuck before the hardware test... but, when I move the SATA cables from SATA1&2 to SATA7&8 BIOS starts up again... I switch back and it operates normally again! Don't know what that may mean... Is there something I'm installing that I shouldn't in iAtkos v7? what were you exact selections with iAtkos 7? Am I installing Chameleon wrong?

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanx

Heya x986123. I sold my old rig and now i'm in the process of building one similar to what you've got going on here. I'm a little curious on your GPU in your sig where it says SLI dual GTX 260. Do you actually have two of them? If so just curious on how you got them working. My impression from searching around is that you can't actually get an SLI setup to boost graphics performance in OS X, but you can get dual cards recognized and running dual monitors.

I have two of them, they are working using EFI strings. No SLI doesn't work on mac.

I installed iPC 10.5.6, this is what I get when I place flags:

cpus=1 busratio=20 fsb=133 idehalt=0 -v -x -f

x986123
11-15-2009, 11:19 PM
Just try Cpus=1 Busratio=20 -v
That should work. Also if you missed these during install, reinstall:

ICH10 Chipset
Jmicron Chipset
APIC Fix
Seatbelt 10.5.5
Voodoo kernel
RealtekR1000

That should cover most

Well youl'll be happy to know that I got Mac OS Snow working on my MSI X58 Platinum board! Sweeeet! =^)
You were probably telling yourself "Its gotta work", and it does! I installed it using your method, however, I modified it slightly. I utilized my AMD Athlon 64 w/ 10.5.6 (which was iPC, by the by, jeje) and I followed your steps of installing the OSInstall, Bootloader, DSDT (msi-mobo), kexts, to the Tee (I also added the HDAAudio). It was much faster than installing a distro and restarting et al. sort of like installing off of a HardDrive! Once everything was installed I plugged the SATA into ICH10SATA1 and it booted up! no Panics, no Boot Strings, just beautiful!
Everything worked except for Video, so I installed QE_CI_for_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg (for my ATi 4890 OC) and I Enabled QuartzExtreme and GL w/ OSX86Tools and rebooted, voila, brand new Mac w/ Full QE/CI on an overclocked Radeon and - perhaps, soon to be overclocked motherboard. =^) I could not be happier!
I know you could call my method of installation a "cheat" and I realize that some people might not have the option of installing off of another Mac but this is what I guess I had to do to get my motherboard working with Snow Leopard. Thanks a bunch for the help x986123, now I am up and running! Awesomeness.

Actually I do have another mac, I use it incase this install fails and I need to fix or backup files. Also, I make a second small (20gb) partition and have snow there, incase I need to fix something.

Have fun with your Hackintosh! Glad my guide worked for you!

Exactly thats what I was thinking to have as a fail-safe. Once I had my running install I would "dd" it to another partition.

I was also wondering -since I just got this mobo recently- How does it run at 3.6 Ghz? Is it stable? Any suggestions for a newbie OCer? I don't really want to push it. Do you usually have it fully OCed or do you switch according to how you use it?

Again, Thanks for the tips,

Happily Maccin' away =^)

I fully OC it to 3.6, stable, and its fast, at 34 degrees C.

I enabled power management and the "Core boost" or whatever it called so it can lower the CPU speed and increase it at will. Runs great, no issues.

Hey mate, I've read through your guide, and all the following comments, but try as I might, just can't get OSX to install. I've downloaded iPC, and followed your instructions as closely as I could, but it still didn't work. I can't seem to find that APIC (ACIP?) fix you mentioned anywhere. I've also tried XxX_X86, iDeneb v1.3, iDeneb v1.6 lite, and some varios Boot 132 methods; but alas, nothing. Think you could lend a hand?

The Apic/ACPI fix is in the "Fixes" or something part of the install DVD of iPC. It is located next to the Seatbelt.kext fix needed for the VooDoo kernel.

Hey man, this is an awesome guide that you laid out for the fellow X58 platinum users.
I'm only having one issue. The damn EFI string for my graphics card... i have an Nvidia GTX 275 (896MB VRAM) Dual DVI. I seriously can't figure out how to inject the hex code into com.apple.Boot.plist. if thats even where it goes. I saw on OSx86 wiki that the video card is supported, so i decided to give the hackintosh a try. I got as far as the screen when u select install OSX then the apple logo shows up and then the screen loads and goes Effing BLANK!!! .. ; ; Help me plz lol

Hey there X. So I got my x58/i7920/gtx260 up and running. Thing runs SUHWEET. I actually didn't use your guide. I went with Empire EFI and was able to get as close to retail as I could. The only thing I'm still having trouble with is sleep. I've changed the bios settings to S3 and OS controlled, but my machine still shuts down when i try to sleep it. Someone mentioned sleepenabler kext somewhere in this thread. Are you using it in conjunction with the bios settings? I haven't tried it since updating to 10.6.2, but it didn't work before when I had it.

Also, you mentioned you had your 920 OC'd to 3.6 at upper 30's C. I've also got mine OC'd to 3.6 but it stays in the mid 40's. What are you using to cool it? I know 40's are fine, but the cooler the better right? Anyhow, kudos on this guide and also thanks for your help in the gtx 260 guide. Later!

x986123
12-12-2009, 06:36 AM
Thanks InteliMacPro! It does run very nice. The cooler I use is the V8. It runs great in my HAF932 (very vented case) But after a while of use, the temp stays at 43 degrees. I under-clocked (still overclocked) to 3.3ghz for now because I don't need that much horsepower yet. My sleep seems to work fine, no sleep kexts needed.

Also, im quite surprised people have the same specs as me, some EXACTLY the same. And all of us doing Hackintosh installs. Haha. Hows Empire EFI going? Is it better than Chameleon/PC EFI? Does it have EFI64?

Also, with PC-EFI 10.5 and FakeSMC 2.5, I get as close to retail as possible too. With FakeSMC, your Hac thinks it has an SMC chip.

Nice. Mine thinks it's a Mac Mini though. I really like Empire EFI. I may have to try PC EFI though. I think I read somewhere in this thread that their bootloader made their sleep work. I just like that Empire EFI lets me install from the SL DVD so no need for iPC base. Is your RAM really running at 1600MHz? Can't seem to get mine above 1333 and then i read that the X58 Platinum only goes up to 1333.

You set your processor speed in system profiler manually, right?

x986123
12-12-2009, 08:17 AM
Yea, I can push it there, but then CPU doesn't go to 3.6ghz... I just put that their because they are rated at 1600mhz, but right now their at 1333mhz, there is like no performance change though, I tested.

No, system profiler found it auto.

InteliMacPro
12-12-2009, 08:05 PM
Hmmm. My system profiler just says 2.69. Then again about this mac sees my ram and system profiler doesn't... I just don't like entering the info. I want it to be auto detected like it should be.
I looked at the V8 but ended up going with a Cooler Master hyper N520. It was like 40 bucks and got good reviews. I'd love to eventually go to water cooling though.
I'm honestly wondering why your CPU speed is detected and mine isn't. We've got practically identical specs.

x986123
12-12-2009, 08:11 PM
Maybe Chameleon/PC_EFI have some kind of fixes for this? I dunno, you might want to try if your up to it.

Thing is, I had to set "About this mac" CPU to Intel Core i7 manually, but with that, I had to enter speed manually. But It used to change auto, and System Profiler still changes it auto.

http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/5890/screenshot20091212at110.png

As you can see, my ram was auto detected, All I did was add a SMBIOS.plist to make sure it says DDR3, thats it.

I stumbled across this guide a few days ago and just got around to trying it out, however, I'm running into a slight problem and was wondering if anyone could help out. I currently have 10.5.7 installed on my system but wanted to try out 10.6 but when I try the posted installation method I get a warning and am unable to install on the partition I want. The warning says i must repartition the disk as 'GUID Partition Table' before I can continue. I realize that I could do this using the diskutil tool, however I have been using that particular hard drive for some other things and don't want to fully repartition the drive. I'm curious to know if there is some clever way around this or if reformatting is my only option. I've tried a poking around in a GParted live cd, with no luck.

Hi,x986123. Good to see you again.
I'm still working on to get my Snow Leopard more perfect since I followed your guild to get it installed a few months ago.

The biggest problem I'm having is I can't get the vanilla AppleHDA.kext working since there's no Built-in Audio info in System Profile with VoodooHDA.kext which would stop Avid Media Composer from launching.

Is there anyway to fix that by modifying the DSDT?
I posted my full question here.

I've tried multiple passwords, all easy to remember. Keyboard working, caps lock off, although after setup I get keyboard assistant. I've tried both setting up the keyboard and using it as is. No difference. From the install disk/utilities/reset password there is only a system administrator (root) user, so it seems the setup is not completing. Do you have to login after setup one time to finish setup? I also can't seem to boot into safe mode. Do you know what to look for in terminal to reset a password?

I have almost the same setup as many of you here,

x58 Platinum / i7 920 / GTX260 / DDR3 1600mhz RAM.

I seem to see lots of ways to go about installing mac os X, and I have a retail Snow Leopard (10.6) installation DVD, but I have NO ACCESS to a real mac whatsoever, so I can't even start any of these installations.

Help!? I'd like to use PC EFI. I may be able to get access to a mac for a short time but I need to know EXACTLY what I need to do. I'd like to install vanilla 10.6.

check out empire efi. you don't need a real mac with it. it's basically a boot 132 cd with some drivers added. I've never gotten it to boot into the retail installer with video on the 260 though, so you may have trouble there. I haven't tried the latest release though, so maybe you'll have better luck. I think you need to type something in before you actually try to boot using the 260. Check it out here. (http://prasys.co.cc/2010/01/empire-efi-v-1-085-is-out/) Look for the R2 download for nvidia laptops and desktop 2xx graphics cards and follow the instructions. Post back if it gives you video in the installer. I just always swapped in a 8800gs and it got me into the installer.

Alright fully operational, I think.

I had to go back and wipe out and reinstall mac os after trying to change the refresh rate- no amount of graphics mode command lines on boot caused it to do anything other than go static booting without -x. Later on I will create a separate booter on a USB or something and try to see if I can get 120hz, but for now 60hz is fine. It works!

So, I can give you my steps.

1)downloaded and burned empire efi
2)booted to SL retail dvd with empire efi (GraphicsEnabler=Y PciRoot=0) and installed (only making sure to not select printer option)
3)booted to HD with empire efi (GraphicsEnabler=Y PciRoot=0)
4)used apple update to get combo 10.6.3 update and installed it
5)rebooted again with empire efi to HD (GraphicsEnabler=Y PciRoot=0)
6)ran myhack installer, choosing sensible options, leaving graphics enabler checked, afterwards updating the com apple boot list to include PciRoot=0 as it booted with PciRoot=1 and failed to give me video, and set "Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32" (defaults 1024x768)
7)configured kexts with kext utility, added extra kexts from this forum first page, and VoodooHDA kext from this forum 2nd page. FakeSMC from netkas' site.
8)Ran osx86 tools just in case to repair permissions and touch extensions folder. Yay GUI!
8)booted from HD adding nothing to command line, everything seems to be working fine!!!

graphics are detected and seem to work 100% (other than I'm not sure about the refresh rate, I'm scared to try to change it). Any idea how I can test to see if it's working well or just working? any program suggestions with benchmarks I can relate to? I didn't use an EFI string as graphics enabler states that with option Y it will do its best to make up a good EFI string to use... so until I find a better option I'm using it. System profiler sees it as a gtx260 so...

USB is working, it even auto-detected drivers for my logitech pro 9000 that I forgot was still plugged in during install, firewire is active, ethernet is active, I don't have a wireless adapter so it's just a cable (idk if it is working in gigabit capacity like it could though, but that's not a big deal), audio is working in stereo with the voodoohda kext, the smc makes it think I am running a mac pro with a Xeon processor instead of an i7 but reads the clock speed right...

The only things I can't seem to make sense of are that the system profiler shows the ram as being DDR2 when it is DDR3, and it shows the i7 as having 4 cores (which I guess technically it does, but it should be able to use hyperthreading to show 8 cores?).

Thanks for the easy extensions list, i986123, and thanks intelimacpro for the empire efi tip... saved me from hours of pulling my hair out.

InteliMacPro
04-09-2010, 06:08 AM
Nice. 4 cores is technically correct. Hardware-wise, hyperthreading doesn't count. Mine doesn't even read memory in system profiler. Says 6gb 1333 in about this mac, which is as high as this mobo supports last i checked. I did away with graphics enabler and am using NVEnabler. I don't boot with anything special in the boot.plist. Glad to hear it's working for ya!

Changing resolutions or refresh rate causes an instant meltdown...

This includes when an application tries to make itself full-screen, which is how I discovered this. Inteli- can you change your refresh rate/run full screen apps with NV?

InteliMacPro
04-11-2010, 07:03 AM
hmmm i don't do a lot of this, but I got burning monkey solitaire in the macheist bundle and it goes full screen when you launch it. No problems there. Same thing with that Monkey Island game from the MH bundle. I don't seem to have any issues with NVEnabler. Make sure you repair permissions.

wetzelskid
04-11-2010, 08:17 PM
Removed GraphicsEnabler and installed NVEnabler, put my device/vendor ID in NVDAN50HAL.kext on the IOPCIMatch key, boots fine, openCL benchmark is even a little higher. Still no full screen or resolution changing!

I am afraid to change resolution in the system prefs, because that bricked my install the only other time I did it as I couldn't change it back... I could probably figure out a way but it seems like a hassle. My test is to run Halo, actually.

The game will start, go full screen, and then the whole screen will go white/red static. I will see a small line of graphics at the very top edge of the screen and the game appears to load fine other than the graphics. When I force quit the game, I go right back to desktop and everything is fine again.

I'm sure this is related to my fancy 120hz monitor and changing the refresh rate but I have no idea where to start to fix this! The graphics drivers and acceleration are working fine- playing Halo in a window gives me like 150 fps.

I am repairing extensions with these commands-

sudo -s
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
touch /System/Library/Extensions

... I think that's right... I've also used osx86 tools to do it for me, and clear caches and such, so I don't think it's a permissions issue.

InteliMacPro
04-12-2010, 06:20 AM
You may want to consider another fresh install. Then install nvenabler and do nothing else for graphics. after reboot os x should detect your optimum resolution. I occasionally get static on boot or after waking the display from sleep but a reboot takes care of it.

Have you tried power cycling your monitor when it gets all wonky? maybe it has something to do with the settings on the monitor and not OS X. I would think your monitor would work just fine at 60hz.

Hello all,
I'm a late comer for my hackintosh. I didn't know about this thread until I was referred by the owner from the other thread. It would save me lots of nights trying to install retail snow leopard 10.6.3 on my hackintosh. None working out there and none supported with the new 10.6.3.
Anywho, thanks to this thread, I got mine working in 5 hours.

1. My system is MSI X58 Platinum (non SLI), i7 920 OC @ 3.6Ghz (180Mhz base) 6Gb triple channels Cosair 1066, ATI PCIe XT2600 HD, Airlink101 AWLH6070 wireless 150N, Brother MFC-665CW, ACER P244W, all SATA drives and DVD, no ATA connected.
2. Installed on 1 drive 400GB Leopard 10.5.8 using iDeneb 1.6 & iAtkos v7 combo.
3. Bought a retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on Amazon for $28.8.

Now the installation using this guide.

1. Installed on 500Gb drive clean using the hacked way . Yes, finished installing with errors. Ignored it.
2. The downloaded Chameleon install package rc3 doesn't boot. Use myHacker1.0.1 to install in the new installed (with errors) "snow leopard 10.6.3".
3. Edit "Extra/Extensions" folder in the new installed drive "snow leopard 10.6.3", add all the kext files from this guide + ATY_init (for my XT2600 ATI) and dragged the DSDT.aml from the working root folder 10.5.8 to the root of the new "snow leopard 10.6.3".
4. Remove AppleATIX2000.kext from the new system Extensions, this one caused kernel panic.
5. Set bios to boot from the new "snow leopard 10.6.3"
6. So what's in the myHack1.0.1 com.apple.boot.plist?
a. Kernel Flags = "arch=i386" (runs default at -x32).
b. Graphics Mode = 1024x768x32
c. GraphicsEnabler = Y, Pcie=1
7. The board doesn't display, just a blue screen and sit there for 15 minutes. Something is wrong, the graphic card doesn't work now even with low resolution force. Luckily, I had an extra ATI HD3450 ($19) from NewEgg last year, swapped XT2600 out with this one. I booted up to the welcome screen in less than 2 minutes. I was so happy to see the registration page. Reboot and set "Graphics Mode"="1920x1080x32@60", and the display came up with 1440x1050 with this ATI HD3450. Well this not important for now.
8. Use Kext Helper 7 to install ATY_init.kext and VoodooHDA.kext.
9. Reboot, but the ATY_init.kext didn't do anything for ATI HD3450, still at max 1440x1050. Well, swapped this out and back with ATI HD 2600XT card. Edit the com.apple.boot.plist in the Extra folder and replaced 1024x768x32 with 1920x1080x32 and Pcie=1 to Pcie=0. Reboot.
10. Beautiful screen @ 1920x1080x32 came up... it even has all the screen resolutions option for me to choose.
11. Remove the "arch=i386" from the com.apple.boot.plist and it didn't boot at all... Need help on this please.
12. PS2 keyboards and mouse didn't work either, it worked before with 10.5.8 even installing the ApplePS2.kext from the 10.5.8 system... Need help on this one too please.
13. Preview doesn't work, open a picture and it's blank. Help on this please.
14. Screen capture to file, I can hear the clicks but NO pictures appear on the desktop. Help on this please.

The snow leopard 10.6.3 seems to be faster but until I get all the kinks out, I like the 10.5.8 better with all printers, ps2 devices working and especially the print screen.

Thanks again X986123 for a real working guide,

Louis

PS: I'm writing this up with screen shots here (http://www.ltooz.com/ltooz341/blog/HTPC?itemid=192)when I get everything working.

After reading on the net, 10.5.8 has qe/ci working with ATI HD2600 XT but NOT Snow Leopard. Went out to buy a $33.00 Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS, everything is working right out of the box, QE/CI/CL. The preview, quicktime screen recording, Screenshots, Front Row didn't work because of the Graphic card. Now everything works, iMovie HD warning is gone. Wonderful system now. Full write up in details and videos are on the way. Just got everything working last night. Even my new Laptop Gateway id5822U.

Cheers,

Louis:D

Anyone know how to get SL to recognize dual 280 cards? I don't expect to get them in SLI mode because I guess SL doesn't support that, but I just want to be able to boot without having to physically unplug one of the cards first. If I do that, everything works fine. I have tried various EFI strings to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Actually that could be your problem right there. You need to use a SATA drive. Here is what the OSX86 database says needs to be done to make this board work:

USB works with Multibeast Rollback installed
For audio use VoodooHDA installed in /Extra/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions
Network works OOB
SATA works OOB with myHack installer v1.1
RAID works using Chameleon RC4 files and Aquamac's Bootable RAID instructions, requires dabbling with the two "Boot OSX" partitions
Used the Retail Snow Leopard DVD to install 10.6, updated to 10.6.6, used the Multibeast to install USB Rollback
Can use system in 64-bit only which is a plus, just add "arch=x86_64" to the boot strings
Make sure you make a DSDT.aml, after which you can remove NullCPUPowerManagement.kext.
Refer to this link for help: [46] (http://osx86.co/f57/guide-retail-msi-x58-platinum-sli-pictures-64-t4084/)

Good luck!
