Hello all,

Having issues on my board installing SL. I am using the guide from <http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2009/09/how-to-build-a-hackintosh-with-snow-leopard-start-to-finish/>. Also I should warn that I am fairly new to the community so bear with any noobness on my part. This is a clean install on a unformatted HDD using retail DVD with image and bootloader on USB.

My system seems to constantly get stuck right after

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin: :pushCPU_CstData - _CST Evaluation Failed.

I have tried a variety of things including starting in safe mode, cpus=1, acpi=off, etc but keep getting stalling up on the same spot. Here is a photo of the error. It looks like it gets held up right on that...

Also my system is as follows:
CPU type:Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Motherboard: GA-G31M-ES2L Rev 2.0 (does not support AHCI)
ATI Radeon HD 4850, 512mb
240 gig SATA HD
4 gigs Samsung ram
LG Super-Multi DVD/CD R/W

Any advice or tips would be helpful. This stuff gets frustrating!http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif

Firstly stop using that Lifehacker guide. It's for a different board. FYI, there's no such thing as generic install.

I would recommend you follow this instead:

Hey any luck on this? I have my install working on rev2 with a PCI nic, efi string for GFX card, but no sound. I have tried almost every KEXT out there for this ALC883 with no luck. There is only one method I have not tried something like HDApatcher I think but it sounds complicated. Any ideas? Thanks PM's would be appreciated if you reply on the forum so I know it is there.

Hey thanks for the late reply. I never did get much figured out for this problem. Posted on a few boards but never got much help so decided to try windows 7. What method did you use to actually get it installed? Same board and gfx card? Maybe I can give it another shot and just pick up a new sound card if I can get it working like you.

Would much rather prefer running on OSX

Cheers, and thanks for the reply. Hope you can offer some help!

hi,
try this link.
http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/guide-retail-snow-leopard-dvd-install-for-g31m-t3672/
i used the above guide and am having 99 % Mac .Sound, ethernet, 64bit kernel , USB, restart, shutdown all working perfectly. Only thing that i miss from a original mac is the quite operation of the machine. since this is a desktop i have quite a few fan sound.

Thanks for the suggestion, I actually used that guide to do my install as well. I tried the latter of the two sound options:

Extensions: (Universal)

fakesmc - now updated to V2, visit netkas blog for the updated kext.
NullCPUPowerManagement
OpenHaltRestart
PlatformUUID - edit this to include your UUID
SleepEnabler
audio:
LegacyAppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver
LegacyHDAPlatformDriver
or proceed to page 9 and look for Voyn1x post if you wanna use one kext (LegacyALC883.kext (http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/guide-retail-snow-leopard-dvd-install-for-g31m-t3672/post34303.html))

I cant seem to find the "LegacyAppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver" and "LegacyHDAPlatformDriver" anywhere. I am fairly familliar with Mac os, this is my second system, I used the first one for 6 months without booting into windows until Windows 7 RC1 came out. I have admittedly been back on Windows 7 since then. It is really good but I love Mac OS for Audio production. I just seems smoother and I like the software and interface better for that. Windows I use for managing my video and music collection as well as gaming. Anyhow, further suggestions for this REV 2.0 board would be great!

Did you guys have a working partition of OSX before hand? Im working from scratch on this. I do have a mac laptop though with SL on it that I can use to make the partition and everything. Heard you could just update directly to SL without previously having OSX installed.

Any advice? Thanks in advance. I was having probs installing both OSX and SL on this machine when I was trying. Created quite the headache :)

I tried it from 10.5.6 but I had problems so then I followed a guide that allowed using retail installed from USB disk. Specifically for this board on this forum as well. I have a nice running system. One problem...... No audio.. No matter WTF I try. It is killing me....

Hello everyone !

First, I would like to thank every member of the community for being so active and helpful.
i'm pretty active myself on the osx86 scene, but since I rarely get desperate (I always end up finding an answer to my problems) I rarely post. So i will try to keep the story short.

The story started a couple months ago when i stumbled across a guide to install mosX on a gygabite P35C-DS3R ( my media center) and since then, i'm trying (with a lot of succes!) to install osX on all sort of configurations.

Last week, after a friend gave me a buggy dell server he had, i realised I had all the hardware i'd need to build another hackintosh except for a motherboard:

-Pentrium D dual core @ 2.8 ghz
-1x 2gig OCZ ddr2-800 ram
-2x 80 gig sata drives
-1x IDE or SATA optical combo drives
-1x decent psu

-------------------

I tough i'd give myself a break and go buy the legendary g31m-es2l board from a local store. its the rev 2.0 but i have a realtek 8139 NIC laying arround. Well... i've never had as much trouble trying to install osX on a machine :'(

I post because (even tho i'm not a pro) i'm running out of options to try. I have the feeling its something really stupid, so here I am asking for help.

Motherboard G31m-es2l v2.0 with bios FC.
I really want to try the retail install methos on this board but i can't even getthe osx retail disk to boot, so for now i'll skip that part and tell you what else i tried.

--------------------

The problems is that after every installation i do (and the installation goes fine) the comp enters into a reboot loop. I'll try to explain where it reboots in my own words. When, after you get into the chameleon logo, you boot with -v for example. the computer starts looading a couple files then switches video mode (it seems, at least to me) That's where my comp reboots. It also happens with the 132boot method. I pop the boot CD in, see the lunix bootloader, eject it, put the Leopard retail disk, boot on it, and it does the same thing. starts loading then tries to switch video mode and reboots.

------

What i tried so far:

-Partition using GUID and MRB, tried both
-BIOS settings : sata in all modes (enhanced, auto, combined, etc) disabled/enabled the onboard lan, HPET in 32 ans 64 bits mode, ACPI S1 and S3, soft off (instant off), SMART enabled and disabled, Disabled onboard IDE and enabled it... tried to looad default and optimised settings...
-tried my 7800gtx witch i know is working on osX (used in other setups) to bypass the onboard video i was using for a while (didnt mind to be stuck in 1024 for now, but tought it might be the problem)
-tried installing from an IDE AND sata optical drive(ideneb 1.5.1 and iatkos v7 for now since 132 method reboots.
-tried another PSU just in case
-in iatkos and/or iĐeneb, I keep the default kernel, but i tried to install with and without the realtek drivers for my 8139 based NIC, with and without the x3100 video drivers, tried with and without the cpus=1 boot and patch from the installation, tried with and without an intel ICHXX chipset driver, tried with and without every audio drivers... No matter what I try, it always reboots at the exact same spot.
-tried to boot with -v, with "CPUS=1", forcing the resolution to 1024, alouette !!!

I think i did all i could, and read sooo many threads hoping to find what i did wrong...
i now admit my defeat (for now!) and turn to you guys and girls for a little help.

gave a lot of details, i know, but i tought it would be better than not enough.
My goal is to practive my retail install skill with with board (10.5 and SL), that's why i'm posting here.

I also speak french if you are more comfortable giving advices in french!

thanks alot in advance !

I managed to get SL retail to install on my rev 2.0 board without too much fuss. First of all, upgrade to the latest BIOS - it seems to resolve a few GSOD issues I had with earlier versions.

First thing I did was the usual DSDT RTC patch - I did this with a Debian LiveCD and iasl.

As for your install media, do the typical thing of copying the SL Retail DVD to an 8+ GB USB drive and then install Chameleon 2.0 RC3 from http://chameleon.osx86.hu/. Replace the /boot file with the PC EFI 10.3 version and setup your boot.plist as needed. Copy your new DSDT.aml over at this point too.

I threw the extra kexts in /Extra/Extensions - all I used was
NullCPUPowerManagement
fakesmc (version 2 from netkas)
OpenHaltRestart

As it stands now, I boot into 64bit without an issue. I don't have audio, or ethernet working yet but I haven't had much time to tinker since I installed on Wednesday. Based on everything I've read, ethernet is a lost cause on the rev 2 board - I'm just going to pick up a $10 PCI card and be done with it. Audio doesn't look like it should be an issue to get it working... couple of kexts and a DSDT patch.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, once you're installed, boot with -x32 initially, run KExtUtility, repair permissions, and then you should be able to boot 64 bit.

I've managed to get my install working perfectly now in 64 bit mode, vanilla kernel. My specs currently:

Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L Rev 2.0
Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.2GHz)
2 GB DDR667 RAM
nVidia GeForce 9500 GT (eVGA)
Netgear GA311 GBit NIC
250GB Seagate SATA
LG SuperMulti 22x SATA DVD+/-RW
Dell 2007WFP LCD

Onboard NIC doesn't work, hence the GA311 PCI card. Haven't really tested the onboard video as I have a 9500GT. Have full QE/CI/OpenGL/OpenCL support with the 9500GT. Audio, sleep, restart, shutdown all work perfectly as well. I did have to augment sleep with the PleaseSleep application to get it to sleep automatically.

Software used:
- Chameleon 2.0 RC3
- PCI EFI 10.3
- PleaseSleep

KEXTs used:
- fakesmc (v2)
- NullCPUPowerManagement
- SleepEnabler
- HDA
- OpenHaltRestart

DSDT patches needed:
- RTC Fix
- USB EHCI/UHCI Sleep Fix
- HDEF audio fix

When I get a chance, I'll package up my DSDT and kext's for anyone who wants them.

I've managed to get my install working perfectly now in 64 bit mode, vanilla kernel. My specs currently:

Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L Rev 2.0 <--- Same Board Running Snow 64

DSDT patches needed:
- RTC Fix <--------------- I got it working!
- USB EHCI/UHCI Sleep Fix <------No idea that is even wrong?!?
- HDEF audio fix <--- I use some code for the enablers but no luck!!

When I get a chance, I'll package up my DSDT and kext's for anyone who wants them.

I'll take you up on that package!!!

How did you get the audio to work...?
I'll be nice to compare against your DSDT & files against my Realtek NIC and audio figures...?

Thanks:cool:

Hi Guys,

I am having a hell of a time getting audio to work. Flux84 - I am using your HDA.kext for my board. Do you know if your HDMI (if you have it) outputs both audio/video?

Also, to install your .kext, I am dragging into my extension folder, using KextUtility to backup, then repair permissions on disk in disk utility. Isnt that correct?

Hi Flux,

Will your dsdt work for OXS 10.5.7? I have been running Leopard on a g31m-es2l for quite some time now (after about 15 instals), got it working reasonably well. Apart from the hard drive not stopping when I shut down and a restart not restarting(but i can live with this) However the most annoying thing is that the wifi pci card (dlink dwa 457) does not work, doesn't even show up in about my mac. I've tried just about every kext out there, done the usual editing plus changing the port numbers in the networkinterface.plist. It's got to me to the point of buying a usb wifi adapter (which works when it wants to)
So, Is it possible to add a fix or patch which hopefully fix my wifi to your dsdt. I have tried to produce my own dsdt, but I'm stuck on a very shallow learning curve and it's turning my hair grey :-/.
If you or anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

boomerx01,

I have a G31M and I used the attached installer to get my audio working. It uses a patched version of AppleAzaliaAudio.kext. It was originally for Leopard but it worked in SL for me. FYI you have to reinstall it when you upgrade the version (eg 10.6.4 to 10.6.5)

Oh, and the mic doen't work, but the audio output is great.
