Greetings,
I am installing Mac OS X on my Satellite A205-S7464. What distribution would you most strongly suggest? In searching around it seems that Leo4all and Kalyway are most often suggested, though I don't know if these distributions are still in development.
I've tried iATKOS v7 a few times and it locks up at the installing step with a few different settings that I've tried.
Also, you could see my related post in "Laptops/Netbooks" (I think that cross-posting is discouraged).

Thanks,
Jamoosh

I would install Snow Leopard OSX Universal 3.4 Golden master or an update of that distro.( I can give you the directions on how to get that distro later.) Works on mine But has some USB and WIFI issues I am working on those though, The WIFI problem is related to the USB problems though, It integrated USB WIFI. But as I said I think I have found the solution. Will keep ya post dude/dudette.:)

Hello!

I was trying to install various OSXes on my laptop but none of them worked :(

First of all my tech specs:
Toshiba Satellite A300 20N

CPU Type: Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T6400, 2000 MHz (10 x 200)
Motherboard Chipset: Intel Cantiga GM45
Video Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series (256 MB)
IDE Controller: Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller

So, I tried to Install iAtkos v7, iDeneb 10.5.7, iPC 10.5.6 and SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM-v3.5. Only the last one worked. A kind of. There was no sound, no Internet, USBs didn't work. I could only admire the fabulous OSX Desktop but I want more :D Do you have any suggestions what should I do?

Thank you!!!

Yup, Sure do.

00010
10-27-2009, 10:25 PM
Ok, You got one thing strait, The Snow OSX Universal image. To get you sound working use "VoodooHDA.kext" in the AT-Tools driver file. Then Use the DSDT Patcher (you can get it here http://http://pcwizcomputer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=150&Itemid=48 )

This may get the USB working , Then since the WIFI is integrated into the USB interface if you find the appropriate driver/.kext file, Then it should all be good.

Thomasasz
10-27-2009, 10:33 PM
Oh it sounds like an easy one :D Thanks for your help I will try this tomorow and tell you if this worked!

Once again thank you! :D

Um, by the way, what is an EFI? What does it do and how can I install it?

Thnx

00010
10-28-2009, 12:06 AM
EFI is like the Bios in a PC but on a Mac, Chameleon is a boot-loader for OSx86 that emulates the EFI so we can run the Vanilla Snow leopard without many modifications, it comes in the SnowOSX Universal Golden Master 3.4 ,so don't worry about downloading it just select it from the customize tab when you install , just make sure you select the most current one. Because you will need it to use the patched dsdt.aml file on a Toshiba laptop.:D

A patched dsdt.aml file is a MUST when installing on a Toshiba Satellite in order for everything to work correctly.:D

So, I am on Snow Leopard now. Internet (wired) works just fine (I installed realtek kexts) but Intel WiFi 5100 doesn't work :( Also the sound and the USBs doesn't work too :( What could you suggest me? :(

Thomasasz
10-28-2009, 12:31 PM
Ok. I try to get everything work step by step. I started with my the sound. I have an Realtek ALC268. I have found THIS (http://pcwizcomputer.com/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=viewlink&link_id=26&Itemid=65). I tried to install it twice and every single time a kernel panic appeared and I had to reinstall OSX. So what should I do? :(

00010
10-28-2009, 03:50 PM
OK, I was wrong about the DSDT.aml, you dont need it ,I have found the USB fix, The ONLY thing I cant get working is WIFI but it does have a driver for it and it shows up in the USB tab in system profiler.

After extensive testing I got EVERYTHING except WIFI (for now) :)

Keep y'all posted!!!!

I am re-installing now , I am Using the GUID partion table and I formatted it as Mac OS Extended Journaled ( other formats gave me ALOT of problems), I also ZEROED the hard disk out just so I can have a nice clean fresh install of SL. :)

00010
10-28-2009, 03:55 PM
As for the USB problems I used the IOUSBFamily.kext package from the "iPC Install DVD 10.5.6" Then it worked just fine.

As for the sound use "VoodooHDA.kext" in you AT-tools/Drivers folder , ( Use kext Utility to install) for Intel sound card chip sets.

Did you use the "OSx86Tools" Utility to repair your extension permissions and use the "Touch Extensions Folder" option with the kext you found for you specific hardware?

Also check to see if the card has to different names there are sometimes more than one name or a different driver with a compatible chip-set.

If you need a Ethernet Driver let me know, And if you already have one where did you get it?

What LAN card does your system have?

Thomasasz

If you need a Ethernet Driver let me know, And if you already have one where did you get it?

My LAN car is Realtek 8101. I have downloaded kext of Realtek 8169 and installed it on Kext Helper. After a reboot etherent worked.

So I installed VoodooHDA.kext and guess what - sound works. A kind of :D and incidator on a Finder toolbar shows that sound is, however, I can't hear it neither on speakers nor on the headphones :(

No, I didn't try OSx86Tools. I'll try now :D

PS. Maybe you can download that IOUSBFamily.kext? Because I don't have 10.5.6 iPC :(

Hi
I'm trying to make my Toshiba Satellite L305 SP6807R a hackintosh, but i'm a beginner. I've read some stuff but still don't get it. I donwloaded the iPC 10.5.6. Can you point me on the right direction? What do I have to know to get started?
Thank you

P.S. I'm trying to make my Toshiba a triple boot system with a shared volume between the three OS, but first I want to try the Mac OSX, it's the only one I haven't tried.

11-17-2009, 03:47 AM
For that system the only known working install is the SnowOSX Universal 3.4 and 3.5.

I have moddified drivers for the wifi and you will need a modified "IOUSBFamily.kext" to get usb working. It uses "VoodooHDA.kext" for the audio which is included in the drivers folder after install under the folder in applications called "ATTools".

Hello! I saw this thread was being specifically tailored to Toshiba laptops, so I decided to post my questions here. I had a nearly flawless install on my L305-S5899 and I got Mac OS X booted up with mouse, keyboard, and sound. These are all possible under only one condition: I only have one core enabled. If I boot with both cores running (my processor is a Pentium Dual Core T3200) it boots into the OS beautifully and speedy, but my keyboard and mouse don't function at all. I can still control the sound with the volume dial on the front of the laptop to increase and decrease volume easily, and when I do that the volume click/pop sound still works. If I push the power button, it brings up the sleep/shutdown box and hangs up, making the sound effect it makes when it pops up spazz out and repeat itself eternally, so I'm forced to shut it down by holding down the power. Is there any fix for that? I really hope so... :'(
Also, I'd like to know if you found out more about that display kext for the 4500M chipsets that are used in the L305-XXXXX series notebooks because to get the display displaying the correct resolution would be wonderful! I've looked for days, and only found safe mode mods, and that's not good for general use. Thank you! I will do anything I can on my part to help if possible.

00010
01-10-2010, 08:52 PM
Well I used the SnowOSX Univeral 3.5 ISO, to install, It sounds like when you enable the second core it changes the setting to 64-bit, so all you need to do is change it to 32-bit to get you ps2.kext working again as it should as if it were only in one core again, or find a 64-bit PS2.kext, As for the display kexts, I have them for the x4500 so PM me if you want them, they support Quartz Extreme and OpenGL.

01-11-2010, 03:34 AM
I found the gfx kext I needed to make it work, and it works wonderfully! Thank you letting me know it existed! :D
The problems I have now are the cores and the wifi (atheros). I've tried all sorts of combinations in my bios to try to make it boot without a hitch, but I still have problems booting with both cores. I plugged in my wacom tablet, and it immediately worked with both cores enabled. But whenever I'd click something on the finder (or anything in general), the menu's would scroll and go nuts unless I held the mouse click down. If I clicked the search entry, it would start adding a single letter (sometimes it's k, sometimes an arrow key) as if I were holding down a letter key on my keyboard (the keyboard isn't even responding, as my caps lock indicator and other lights aren't lit). The touchpad doesn't function still either. I'm a bit confused about what you mean about the ps2.kext because I've tried installing a few, but to no avail. Same thing with the wifi. For some reason, it can't even see it. D;
Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate it, and I'm sure others are going to have some of the same questions.

Ok, after installing 10.6.2 om my l305, the keyboard freezes an the trackpad also on mine, but when I start up in safe mode it works fine, I am doing some research on it now.

DarkNeku
01-11-2010, 06:53 PM
I managed to figure out what was going wrong. I reinstalled some of the kexts that came on the original disk that I didn't try the first time, and that did it. It now boots with all my bios settings at their defaults, with dual core enabled. The keyboard, and the touchpad work fine (I just can't scroll using the right side anymore, but that is a small sacrifice I am willing to make). Wifi detects my Atheros Card, but it can't find anything however. Thank you for all your help so far! My installation of 10.5.7 has come very far, very quickly! :D

Its nice to hear more success than there was before with the Toshiba laptop series. Thanks for your feedback any information can be most helpful to the project.

I never realized how many there where in the OSx86 community that had Toshiba laptops or even that I would get this many hits on this post.

Toshiba Satellite a500.....Hi there. I see that you don't have my model but since this is the Toshiba laptop shack i figured i could come here to post my results and ask for any help I need. So far I got everything working except Webcam, mic, Wifi and Graphics card, MY wifi is Realtek-RTL8191SE and my graphics are Nvidia GeForce G210M. Ive got Qe/Ci enabled but after a few minutes or opening certain things i get graphic glitches and artifacts and such. any help would be appreciated!

I'll check into the wifi, I need to know what interface the webcam is in order to help you with that, I assume its built in USB WEB cam, I also will have to look into the Graphics card, I am surprised to see quartz enabled on a Toshiba contrats on that. Will get back to you shortly.

As for the kexts I'll have to look into those, the DVD-RW should work, the screen should at-least get native resolution and the keyboard and trackpad will need the latest edition of VoodooPS2.kext with trackpad support, the network interfaces I would have to look into.

Well I downloaded the original kext from Realtek and it did not work, so I patched the kext by changing the Device ID to the Device ID of the internal RTL8187B that I have.

You can download it here : http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/official-patched-realtek-usb-rtl8187b-wifi-kext-release-t5472/ (http://www.infinitemac.com/../../f57/official-patched-realtek-usb-rtl8187b-wifi-kext-release-t5472/)

I just purchased this yesterday with my main goal to dual boot MacOX X. I have a 5-license copy of Mac OS X that I plan to use to install.

I sort of decided to buy then dive into this and should have done my research first because i am not 100% sure that I will be able to install Mac OS X SL on it now based on what I am reading.

Here are the specs;

Processor Intel Core i5-430M Processor
Memory (RAM) 4GB
Memory Type DDR3
Memory Expandable to 8GB
Hard Drive Size 500GB
Hard Drive Type SATA
Optical Drive DVD SuperMulti drive with Labelflash supporting 11 formats
Display Size 16.0"
Display Type widescreen TruBrite TFT LCD display at 1366 x 768
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Battery Type 6 cell (4400 mAh) Lithium Ion battery pack
Network Card Wi-Fi Wireless networking (802.11b/g/n)
Video Graphics Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD
Other ports HDMI
# of USB slots 4
Bluetooth Enabled No
Dimensions 15.1"W x 10.2"D x 1.44"/1.61"H
Weight 6.48lbs
Warranty 1 year
Extra Features Built-in harman/kardon stereo speakersI thought I did my homework, I did not, now I realize that you have to know the EFI String, and resolutions to set before booting a "132" CD Image. :-)

Any ideas? Should I just return this notebook and get myself a used Macbook Pro?

What happens is when I boot with the (I believe it is Chameleon compiled into a .iso) I get to the point where the Snow Leopard disc is found properly but when I select it to continue, there is some text that scrolls on the screen and the laptop reboots. The text scrolls by so quickly that I don't really notice any errors.

I've got a very good *nix background and Mac OS background. Just wanted to try and save about $2k by NOT buying a Macbook Pro.

I ran CPUID-Z (I believe that is what it is called, and there was no further detail on the Intel graphics chipset.... odd I thought.

Some more searches pulled out that Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD = GMA 5700M HD (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-HD.23065.0.html) ??

No Hackintosh will be as reliable and easy to use as a true Macintosh. At best, it'll work as well as (or perhaps even better than, in some respects) a real Mac, but there will always be the potential for software upgrades to completely hose the system, and in most cases there's a steep learning curve to get it installed in the first place. You may get it 90% working without too much trouble, but then you'll have issues getting that final 10% (WiFi, optimum graphics, getting sleep working, etc.). Thus, if you've got the extra cash and want something that Just Works, buy the real Mac. If not, either abandon plans to run OS X or plan to spend many hours researching and debugging.

As to your specific system, it probably uses a recent enough Intel video chipset that you won't get optimum video performance -- it'll be missing QE/CI support, which means that some advanced games and video players won't work with it. AFAIK, this is true of the vast majority of current commodity laptops. My understanding is that Apple has switched to nVidia graphics on its recent models, so the current line of Intel graphics chipsets may never be fully supported. WiFi issues can be worked around via a USB WiFi dongle, so I wouldn't worry too much about them just yet.

If Empire EFI doesn't work, you could try a distribution, such as the iAtkos that 00010 suggests; however, iAtkos is a 10.5.x distribution. There's a 10.6.x distribution floating around under the name "Hazard," and I think there are one or two other 10.6.x distributions, but there are nowhere near the number of 10.6.x distributions that there were of 10.5.x distributions.

I tried the latest Empire EFI iso.
After booting as expected I insert the Snow Leopard DVD (retail 5-license version) I get to a point where I am asked to "press any key" and when I do that, the Toshiba reboots.

I have not tried the other method yet with iAtkos. I am at a point where I don't want to spend ages on this, I have decided to purchase a refurbished Macbook Pro 17" 2.23GHz for $999, which was a steal I thought.

I most likely will take this Winblows 7 machine back to Staples and get refunded.

Normally (almost never) do I give up on something, but it appears that the hardware may be too new to install Mac OSX on it.

When I was rebooting the Winblows 7 a couple of times, after changing one of the partitions, I got the BSOD pop up with some kind of crazy Windows memory error. LOL.. I'll be glad to take it back.

unless there is still hope to change this thing into a Mac...

Hello! I've recently become really fond of the Mac OS, since we have an iMac at school.

I have three computers, but I want Mac OS X to run on my new laptop, which is a Toshiba Qosmio X500-10Z.

Since I'm new to all of this, all I've managed to do is install Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on the laptop. I couldn't boot with the CD, my laptop would just reboot itself after "Starting Darwin x86" or something like that (I tried various busratios and cpus=1 stuff, nothing worked). Anyways, I have a desktop with Core i7 920 and a HD5870 so I was able to install Mac through that computer. Now, however, to start the OS I have to enter in -x (Safemode?) and then it'll boot up properly.

Nothing works though, LAN, WiFi, graphics, sound... it's all "dead".
It has an Atheros AR8131 for LAN, the WiFi is a Realtek RTL8191SE, the graphics is a nVIDIA GTS 250M, and the sound is a conexant pebble HD smartaudio thingie. Oh, also, the processor is a Core i7 720QM. I believe the chipset is PM55.

Is this computer simply too new for the Mac OS? Or is its components perhaps never going to be supported?

If only I could get the graphics card working and either LAN or WiFi... plus sound... :(

Well, I tried iPC as-well I could not even get the DVD to boot-up, let alone install, but if it works I suggest iPC, but if you want to use iAtkos ( which I like better) then after installtion type:

rd=disk0

0r

rd=disk0s1

0r

rd=disk0s2

0r

rd=disk0s3

and if you find one that boots properly edit you apple.com.boot.plist with that entry.

Well, I am not familiar with all Toshiba L series Laptops, but all I selected was the USB fix and there are some network kexts but I tried those and they did not work, It can run any kernel on that DVD so take your pick, I suggest the latest Voodoo kernel, or the Vanilla kernel( to choose the vanilla kernel just don't select anything), I suggest installing the network interface and video kexts after the install, The Toshiba series does well with Snow Leopard as-well, so if you want I would suggest doing a retail install of Snow Leopard using the last edition of Empire EFI, thats only if you have an intel CPU.

Hi there,
I just wanted to update that I have successfully installed Mac OSX on my Toshiba with the help of countless threads on this forum (and some others) and wanted to offer my gratitude to the users of this forum.
I was able to install iAtkos v.7 on my Satellite A205-S7464 with fairly minimal headaches and plan to post a tutorial on the web as time permits.
Nearly everything worked on my initial install, however I have a few issues to address, if anybody is able to assist.
1.) Wireless networking not working [Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection]. From my investigating thus far, this might not be possible and I'm okay with that.
2.) Wired networking not working [Marvell Yukon 88E8039 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller]. I have yet to find a working driver for this adapter.
I do however have bluetooth working on the Mac and on my Desktop PC and was planning on trying to set up a bluetooth PAN for internet connection sharing if anybody can guide me in the right direction.
3.) Power Management. I installed a power management pkg that I found on the web and now when I boot into Mac OS it boots into a grey screen with a power icon in the middle and the text "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." in four languages. I'm not sure how to contend with this.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to all who frequent this forum.
Jamoosh

Greetings,
I am installing Mac OS X on my Satellite A205-S7464.

Thanks,
Jamoosh

Hello. I was wondering if you have a process to help me out. I recently put SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM_v3.5 on my Toshiba A505-S6960 Computer. It installed fine. I'm running Kalyway 10.5.2 on my L305-S5907. I installed Kalyway and had everything working fine (besides QE/CI and DVD playback) on my old A105-S2231 before I transferred my 80GB hard drive to my L305. Everything runs great except the graphics are stuck with native resolution, mic and headset jacks aren't working and the Atheros wifi card isn't detected. I'm not sure which model the Atheros card is because it doesn't have the model number in the detailed product specifications and I don't want to open her up to find out and possibly cause some internal damage to the laptop. If anyone can offer some assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't replaced any hardware at all. I just checked the hardware info using the iATKOS v7 dvd, and it is an Atheros AR928X wireless card (168c:002a). I followed your installation method and reinstalled osx86 using iATKOS v7. I tried adding my device id to the AirPortAtheros.kext and repaired permissions but that didn't work. Has anyone had any luck with the A505-6020? I saw one post where the guy returned this laptop, because he couldn't get it to work.
I've tried Empire EFI, Snow OSX Universal 3.6, Tony Mac's iboot with Megabeast.
I can't get the installer to fire up.
The apple screen flashes, then reboots.

I suspect that the problem is the video, but no options work. -x, -F, nothing.
The graphics card is an NVidia GeForce 310M, which I've seen is supported by Apple, now.

I can't even find an error, or anything to help me track down the error. The screen does not display an error before it reboots.

Here are the stats:
Toshiba A505-6020
Intel Core i5-430M
NVidia GeForce 310M

Well I would not select the graphics kext until after a successful install, that may be causing the issue, only select whats needed to boot. An Empire EFI installation may be possible aswell with that machine, but I would select these options below:

Latest Voodoo kernel on the DVD.

Slice's Patched USB kext

Sleep fix.

The chip-set appropriate to your system ( if listed )

I might would try the iAtkos Distro, haven't had any issues with that at all, thats what I use on my L305.

Here's a link to a Toshiba install guide by me. http://osx86.net/f57/official-toshiba-l305-s5955-leopard-installation-guide-t5793/ (http://osx86.net/../../f57/official-toshiba-l305-s5955-leopard-installation-guide-t5793/)
I would wait until after a successful installation to install graphics kext.

There have been alot of problems for people about installing graphics kext during the installation and not having proper working graphics afterward.

Also you can try Hazards Snow Leopard ISO, but I haven't heard of anyone using it on the A305.

But I do recommend SnowOSX Universal.

You can search for "SnowOSX Universal" in Google.

Or you can e-mail me and I can give you the info you need.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to install os x on the Toshiba L450D ?

it has 4gb ram , amd x2 dual core processor, ati radeon hd 3200 graphics

I have no idea what motherboard it uses

it's fairly new and I've heard no talk what so ever about os x running on it so any help would be appreciate.

I would try the iPC V7, with the latest PPF udate applied, or the AMD version of SnowOSX universal, Or the AMD version of Empire EFI, I haven't heard of that model before, but it sounds like OSx86 would run great on it, If you can get it installed, the graphics sound like they would work, and the processor, but I am not sure about the USB or WiFi or LAN, I would go for the iPC distro though, because it has the Voodoo kernel with automatic cpuid patching, it will save you time in the long run.

i tried all those options to no avail, but then tried with empire efi and after using an external hard drive, restored the my mbr friendly snow leopard to it and then to a hfs partition on my laptop.

It worked!

only things is i have no drivers installed so no sound, wifi or webcam

anyone got any ideas ?

I would install VoodooHDA.kext for the sound ( I am assuming it's a Realtek Card).

I would need more info on your machine to help you any futher.

Info needed: Graphics card, LAN and WiFi card Model number and maker.

Sounds like your trackpad and keyboard don't have the proper kexts loaded, I would try a prepatched distro like SnowOSXUniversal, or I would try using a USB keyboard and mouse for the install and then install the proper kext files for the trackpad and keyboard after installation, I have had that problem once before it appears to be frozen but its actually fine, you just don't have control over the mouse and keyboard.

i've been trying for ages to install osx on this machine....without any luck.
i'm stuck at this: ioapic: version 0x21 vectors 0:23, no matter what distro i try.
i tried all the flags, cpu=1, cpu-2, etc, even tried the "plug usb stick when ioapic error happenes", nothing
the one thing that got me further was io=0x21, but this gave another error after.
i tried jas 10.4.8 distro, just because i still had the disc, and it worked! got past ioapic: version 0x21 vectors 0:23 just fine, and i was in the setup screen. which led me to the conclusion that it can be done, i just don't know how.
this laptop has a crippled bios (thanks, toshiba). it came with vista preinstalled. since i can't install snow or leo, i installed win7, hated it (i used snow on my desktop and hate using anything else), so i installed ubuntu 10.4, which is not that bad, but still it's not osx...
any ideas, people? thanks.

Hello:
I have been running into the above error accompanied by a kernel panic when trying to install. I have retail DVD's for 10.5.1 (Leo) and 10.6.3 (Snow Leo) and have tried the following methods:

- iBoot (nVidia,ATI,Supported) using the 10.5.1 Retail DVD
- Empire EFI using the 10.6.3 DVD
- Boot-132 Generic using the 10.5.1 Retail DVD
- Snow Leopard by Hazard ISO

Somehow I was able to install Kalyway 10.5.2 by running in safe mode (-v -x boot options) and with a couple BIOS tweaks. But with the same BIOS settings and boot options the other methods fail. Most just reset the comp, but on a couple I was able to actually see the kernel panic logs nicely.

I've searched through google and it seems to be a fairly common error, but I haven't been able to get past it with anything I've found.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Z

I would try the Grub-DFE with a retail Leopard 10.5.6 ( or a Leopard DVD anyways) and try that.

I haven't been about OSx86.net in a while, I am sorry I haven't been here to answer questions, right now none of my machines are running OSX, I hear theirs something in the works for the people that have the same crippled Graphics card that I do ( The crappy GMAx4500 ), I had OSX on my EMachine but That graphics card isn't supported either, it does have a nice pci-e slot, but I dont have the funds to purchase a decent graphics card for it and my windows hard drive got messed up and I lost all my ISO files for OSx86.

AMD Turion Neo x2

4 GB DDR2
320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive

I have attempted both the Boot CD and the Legacy CD of Empire EFI but neither complete the process. It will load, however once I try to install Snow Leopard it runs through the process but freezes prior to installing it.

Any run into this and found a solution?

Thanks

The AMD Turion Neo x2 is a weird chip....The only things I can recommend are try the Hazard Distro or iPC with the latest ppf patches.

Well, I have to say I am spoiled as I have been running an acer one AOA150 on vanilla (well, pretty close anyway) up to 10.6.4 for a while tripled with XP and Sidux. It all seemed pretty easy (if you discount the learning curve on GPT/MBR hybrid disks) until I started trying to install SL on my wife's Satellite. So far, it still hangs just before giving me language selection on a Chameleon USB made from source and 10.6.3 on a second USB. I am pretty sure it is firewire related but I will have to get back to you on that when I figure it out. I did follow the thread up to this point looking for tips but it looks like most of the laptops talked about here are a bit newer.

00010
06-30-2010, 02:26 AM
Well, I can say you should try a different install method, USB installs aren't always the best, try a DVD distro or the Empire EFI method or the Boot 132 method if you want Leopard instead of Snow Leopard, you can also try different boot flags aswell.

Hello 00010!

I'm amazed by all the help you offer the people here and you really have my respect for that, so far I barely saw anyone who was willing to offer that much support for OSX86.

Could I ask for a bit of your support too? I have a Toshiba A300 laptop with a Radeon Mobility HD3650 with Leopard 10.5.8 and everything works perfectly but VGA out. I made a extra thread because my post is rather long and if I get a solution other people will be able to find it faster, the thread is here:

I looked over your problem , I am sorry it has been a while since my last visit here , but it sounds like your machine does get somewhat confused about the displays, But basically , I think if you can find a way to disable extended desktop you should be good to go , but you would only have a Resolution of 1280x800 or 1280x768 on both sreens , or you could somehow configure it to disable the built-in screen when the external one is connected.

I need to know how I could install iPC on an External Hard Drive. I tried it before. I got to the install part. It installed on the drive. Then when it restarted I got "waiting for root device". I changed the SATA thing or whatever from Combatability to ACHI or whatever. Last time I had to do that to install it on my Internal HDD. And it worked. Now it doesnt work on the external HDD. Does anyone know how I even install iPC on an external HDD? Someone please help.

Hi, I'm trying to install Snow Leopard on my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033.

When try to install Snow Leopard using methods like iBoot and Empire EFI, I am usually able to reach the beginning of the installation screen; however the trackpad, keyboard, and usb ports all stop working working at that point. Thus, I have no way to proceed with the installation.

The verbose boot displays the message "The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying." twice during the boot of the OSX installation. I have tried many things and cannot fix this issue.

The above problems occur when my bios is version 1.10 or 1.20. When my bios is version 1.30, the installation boot always hangs at "ACPI : System State [S0 S3 S4 S5] (S3)". I have downgraded to 1.20 for the time being.

My laptop has an Intel Core i7-720QM processor, a Nvidia GeForce 310M (512MB) graphics card, and 4GB of RAM . View the product page (http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/A500/A505-S6033) for more specs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically you need to plug in a USB mouse and keyboard before boot, They should work reguardless if you have a proper USB kext installed thats what I did when testing a Vanilla install of Leopard using the Boot 132 method on my L305, and that worked just fine, then once you install proper PS2 and USB kexts with the external keyboard , then you can use the built in ones just fine. You just have to make sure you plug the USB keyboard and mouse in BEFORE you boot, or you can try a prepatched version of OSx86 that has your USB kext and PS2 kext pre-loaded to install.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have already tried plugging in a usb mouse and keyboard prior to boot. They stop responding as soon as I reach the installation screen.

I have already tried several prepatched distros. Most of them just reboot prior to reaching the installation screen. I have not had any any luck modifying/patching iBoot or Empire EFI.

Once again, thank you for responding to my question. Do you have any other suggestions?

His utility is separate from iBoot, although it is included only when you boot from the iBoot CD your USB 2.0 should work when you boot your computer with the iBoot CD, if you find the MKEXT Unpacker Utility you can go into the "Preboot.dmg" image on that CD and extract the USB kext file from there and use "Kext Utility" to install it. Then you should have working USB 2.0.

Well try this...

Run a linux live CD on the machine and run lspci and we'll see what USB controller your using and find out if there's support for it, may I ask is it absolutely necessary to run Snow Leopard, Like my eMachine Leopard is the only thing that will run or even install, I would suggest trying iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 FINAL, or iAtkos v7, both of these distros have on boot USB patches I believe. Hazards distro should have on boot USB patches aswell, but I can't say for sure.

Slices' patch should work fine if you can get Leopard to boot, I would try iPC then, its what I use on my eMachine and it runs great, just remember if you get it to boot make sure to select the patched USB drivers in the customize menu in the installer, iPC should have patched USB kext files on boot for you to use a USB keyboard while you install, it may also have PS2 kext files for you to try a PS2 keybaord and mouse during install.

Leopard is great, especially on an AMD system because with the older Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel it has on the fly CPUID patching, which is something Snow Leopard patched kernels are lacking,

Try this for the "Still waiting for root device" error.

rd=disk0

or

rd=disk0s1

or

rd=disk0s2

or

or rd=disk2

Hey, will iATKOS v7 10.5.7 work on my laptop?
I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1BL.
I tried to search it on osx86 project wiki but I couldn't find it on any of the compatibility lists since 10.4.11 till 10.6.3.
But I really want to run Mac OSX, maybe not iATKOS...
Any help would be appreciated :(

I've just answered someone on another forum regarding this problem, and just saw this topic here, so I'll copypaste my response here.

I have quite a similar machine and a similar problem. There is a known trouble with BIOS in these series (L505D, A505). Linux couldn't be installed on them neither. On Linux however the problem has been quickly resolved by a simple operation incorporated into the loader, which is copying the DSDT to memory prior to loading the system. And further referring to the tables copied to the RAM rather than working with the motherboard directly. The issue is that somehow the DSDT tables get overwrited with garbage on some stage of loading the system, which totally messes the whole thing up.

As to Hackintosh, there is a built-in possibility to do quite the same with Chameleon. Just get the right DSDT and place it into the dedicated folder inside the installer media, and the bootloader should pick it up (I think this is "Extra" folder on your installer media). Probably you would need to make your bootloader load from a usb stick (where you may easily place your DSDT file) or otherwise mess with the image before burning it on CD/DVD, which is a bit more complicated. I was moving in this direction, but eventually I had some more important things to do and so this is being delayed as for now.

Of course, no guarantees this will actually work, but it might, especially combined with other techniques, such as tuning the DSDT to match the OsX expectations of hardware. There are plenty of tutorials (most of them outdated) referring to how this should be done.

The right DSDT is located right here:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=23950
I think you should rename it to dsdt.aml in order to use it with Chameleon.

You may also refer to this discussion by Linux developers:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14679

Please post any resluts, positive or negative, so other people with this problem can benefit of your trial and error too and maybe think of methods to make a further progress.

Now I have another question: will updating to 10.6.3 using Apple Software Update have any consequences?

@benzin: I'll give your DSDT file a try. Give me some time to set it up.

@Scream: You can't update from 10.5.7 to 10.6.3 using apple software update.

[quote=MehStrongBadMeh;50217]@benzin: I'll give your DSDT file a try. Give me some time to set it up.

Hey, I just realized your model doesn't match the machine this DSDT file was pulled of (L505D-S5983), it has AMD processor, so pretty sure it won't work on your machine. In order to try this method, you should get dsdt.aml matching your computer. You should be able to do this from windows. It's ought to be genuine, because some of the cracking techniques include overriding the original DSDT tables, in order to make Windows think it's installed on valid OEM machine. If this kind of technique is in use on your machine you won't be able to get the right DSDT while on Windows. If your Windows is genuine, go to acpica.org and download Windows Binary Tools (current direct link: http://acpica.org/download/iasl-win-20100806.zip). There should be utility named iasl in this package, use it in command prompt (probably need to be administrator): iasl -g. This should provide you with DSDT matching your computer. There is a way to do the same from Linux, if you have troubles with Windows for some reason.

Good luck!

MehStrongBadMeh
08-22-2010, 02:59 PM
My copy of Windows is genuine. I succesfully ran the iasl utility and got a file named dsdt_TOSINV00.dsl that I will rename to DSDT.aml, I will use this instead of the one I downloaded from you.

Update: I tried using the DSDT with myhack 1.1 and myhack mod 1.1.4. The vanilla kernel would just crash and reboot immediately and the "chocolate" kernel would just kernel panic. I also tried making a custom empire efi boot CD using the DSDT.aml file. It also just crashed and rebooted. Sigh...

benzin
08-23-2010, 03:25 PM
Actually, the file generated by iasl (dsdt.dsl) is no good for this use. Sorry for the confusion. It is the same data, but disassembled and parsed to a higher-level language. In order to get the aml file (which is a binary file), you need either to compile the dsl file with iasl or make it output the binary itself. I'll try to figure out how to get the binary without compiling. You may also refer to the various guides throughout the osx forums.

08-23-2010, 03:33 PM
Just looked at the output of iasl, there is a file named dsdt_TOSINV00.dat. With pretty high probability, this is the binary which should be renamed to dsdt.aml. Worth some additional research though.

Just checked with hex editor. Yep, this is the binary. Just rename it to dsdt.aml (all lower case).

Hello 00010 and others. I have been reading through this thread for a while. I admire your hard work and all of the help you give people. Same for everyone else that throws in thier 2 cents. I wonder if you can point me in the right direction. I had the resolution issue on my hackintosh. So I installed the GMA4500 kext and got everything squared away. However, after doing so my mouse cursor is stuck on the top left side of the screen. The mouse works because I can click and object bar expands, but the cursor doesn't move. Someone on another forum mentioned replacing voodoops2 but I can't find it anywhere on my system. Do you think this file may help me? Thanks in advance for any assistance. :)

Hi all,

I have been searching high and low for a solution to get OSx to boot on my machine. I have tried a number of distros, Hazard's. iDeneb 1.6- 10.5.8, and most recently SnowOSX3.6, All were able to install however i would always get a kernel panic when i try to boot the system. I have to use a boot cd iBoot or nawcom to attempt the startup, but osx never starts. I have a hard time finding any posts with the config used on my specific system. The closest i have come to sucess was after installing SnowOSX3.6, i was getting a panic from AppleFWOHCI, so i removed the FireWire kext from the /Library/Extensions folder and tha solved that problem. However i got a new panc (cpu 0 caller 0x2a7e57) Kernel trap at 0x5d446c07.

Here are my Laptop Specs:

Intel® Core™2 Duo processor P7350 (2.0GHz, 1066MHz FSB, L1 Cache 32KB/32KB, L2 Cache 3MB)

Memory:

Standard Memory: 2 x 2GB DDR2 (800MHz)

Graphics Controller

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Video Memory: 512MB dedicated VRAM

@kozzbc You need to find out what kernel is on the install DVD, and make sure you install that kernel so at next boot it will boot just as the DVD did, I am not too sure about graphics card compatibility though...

Now my problem is:

1) lack the video and wifi kexts.

when I install the kexts and reboot does not start.

Use kext helper and terminal

2) When I'm updating
to 10.6.5 or 10.6.4
I have Kernel panic
I can´t finish installation

3) install multibeast and restarted after chamaleon logo.
use-v busratio = 18-x
I can´t boot from disk

Thank you for the reply, I have succesfully installed and booted the OSx3.6 dvd 10.6.5, after removing the firewire entries from the /System/Library/Extensions as before, The new problem I am having is that i cant get any internet access or Graphics to work, I have only attempted to figure out the ethernet, My adapter is a Marvell Yukon 88E804T, no sucess yet, I am hoping that the Osx Tools will find and download any missing drivers i might need once i get online. So about finding out what kernel is booting i can assume that i need to type -v and look for the Darwin kernel number when i boot from dvd, then install the same one under the customize install menu. Would it be easier to buy/borrow a usb wifi sick to initally gain internet access then run the scan hardware and install driver app from osx 86 tools?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

The best and most universal kernel is the latest Voodoo Kernel but if I remember there is no on the fly CPUID patching for AMD systems yet on Snow Leopard but its been a loooooong time since I have checked... But most pre-patched installer DVD use the Voodoo Kernel by default.

Here is my complete extensions folder for Toshiba Satellite L305-S5962 running OSX86 10.5.8 (leopard) from ideneb v1.6 lite. I used the voodoo kernel if it matters. All kexts have been edited, all devices are working (no DVD video playback) and system is rock solid.

www.pandpinc.com/L305-S5962.zip

Only thing you will need to install is the realtek USB WLAN utility, google for a download link.

Once installed configure your wired and wireless network controllers to static ip, then duplicate the service and set the copy to DHCP. This will enable DHCP. I think LAN has to be plugged in on startup to work.

The devices supported:
8101 Realtek LAN
8187 Realtek WLAN
GMA4500m/GMAX3100 graphics (DVD video playback isnt working)
Media Card Reader
USB
Audio
ect.

you might need a DSDT file, just like most of the A505 and L505D series. The procedure is described earlier in this topic.

I beleive that the issues with the A505, specifically A505-S6033 are caused by the kernel. I just installed by usb method using myHack and the 10.6.0 disk with the chocolate kernel. After install I immediately updated with 10.6.4 combo update and reverted to multibeast as I like it better. I believe that you could just use iboot to start with IF you use the 10.6.3 retail disk. It has kernel support for the newer processors. I dont know if usb will work that way though. My install on A505-S6033 is perfect, just trying to get audio and wireless.

Hi to all! So after gathering many info i tried to install iATKOs v7 on my Toshiba satellite L40:
Intel dualCore T
Hd Toshiba SATA
chipset Intel GML GL960
Video GMX3100
Audio ALC660
Wired Network Realtek 8139
Wireless Network Realtek 8187B

I created a partition in Windows vista of about 22Gb in RAW.

After starting from iATKOS DVD i went to Utilityes --> DiskManagment and select the partition just created, choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) and click Erase.

Than back to menu And in customize i add the option:

Kernel 9.7.0 Vodoo
Intel SATA/IDE
APIC x86
dSDT patch
Laptop Battery
decrypt appledecrypt
Vga Intel GMAX3100
Network Realtek 8139
Network Realtek 8187B USB

And install
On reboot i had:

Boot0: testing
Boot0: testing
Boot0: testing
Boot0: error

And pc stop here
So i use Windows vista DVD to' repair and than after reboot start only vista directly.

Than i start over using iPC 10.5.6 Final PP5 DVD, same customize option, maybe with PS2/driver for keyboard.
-After installing, at reboot it gave me this:

Please contact the Vodoo kernel dev-team....... (And other things)
panic (cpu 0 caller 0x00.....): kernel trap at 0x00....

And a page of number

Debugger called <panic>
Backtrace (CPU0) Frame: return address 4 potential arg
And Than numbers

And below

No mapping exist for frame pointer
Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0xb....,

So i forcely reboot and start vista, download easyBoot and try something but the result is that at booting i have Windows boot manager and -the choice of.. Windows Vista only

So i start over with iATKOS v7 and same option and same panic screen.

But when i reboot i see for while, before Windows boot manager screen:

Booot ..something
Boot.. something

But i cant see it very well, im not sure, its too fast

Anyone please can Help me?
